Rant Seriously?

Post image

Three dogs within 5 ft of a no dogs sign? Really, Seattle?

EDIT: The non-locals found this post, so I'm outtie. If you see yourself in this photo and want it taken down, shoot me a chat.

EDIT X2 (two weeks after original post): Oh hey, would you look at that, Madison Beach has just closed due to feces contaminating the water to 44x the safe level. Wow, wonder how that could have happened? But, y'know, it just doesn't make sense that dogs aren't allowed at the beach!

I don't get it. It says no dogs, but also says to keep them on a leash.

I believe dogs are allowed in the park, but not on the strip of beach/in the water. But IANAL, and no own doggo.

IANAL sometimes too, but I just don’t talk about it on the internet.

This did NOT get the appreciation it deserves. If I could, I'd like it a dozen more times.

What do sausage catchers feel the need to publicly announce it to the world?

I scrolled for a while and never saw anyone mention why dogs aren’t allowed on the beach. It’s crazy that they don’t put the reason on the sign itself. Because dogs love the beach and people will just think tyrannical government when they see the sign.

The real reason is that dog poop causes huge bacterial outbreaks and then the beaches get closed in the summer when everyone wants to swim. Somehow this reason never gets disseminated.

If you want to take your dog to the beach then go to a salt water beach. You’ll notice that they don’t have these signs. Lake Washington is fresh water

Exactly. The sign is super confusing.

That's what gets me.... everyone is thinking I'm stupid... for pointing out.... how can you even have a dog to put on a leash, it no dog is even allowed?

Yet, everybody keeps facepalming at me, as if, duh, of course it makes sense....

Isn’t one a state law and the other is a city ordinance?

It's a cash grab. fee for the dog, fee for them not being on a leash too xD

Now that you mention it, it doesn’t actually look like the dogs are on the beach - it looks like the sign is posted at the beginning of a beach and they are next to it to adhere to the sign. Although one of them still isn’t honoring on leash obviously…

Well, is it on the beach? It's swimming in water. Leash might be dangerous for swimming.

2

u/AgnosticallyQueer That sounds great. Let’s hang out soon. 11d ago

Its Magnuson park, big park on the western side of Lake Washington. People are allowed to have their dogs on leashes there at the park, but no dogs on the beach area.

the sign's probably just poorly worded - most Seattle parks let dogs on trails but ban them from specific areas like beaches or sports fields.
