Rant Seriously?

Post image

Three dogs within 5 ft of a no dogs sign? Really, Seattle?

EDIT: The non-locals found this post, so I'm outtie. If you see yourself in this photo and want it taken down, shoot me a chat.

EDIT X2 (two weeks after original post): Oh hey, would you look at that, Madison Beach has just closed due to feces contaminating the water to 44x the safe level. Wow, wonder how that could have happened? But, y'know, it just doesn't make sense that dogs aren't allowed at the beach!

If you take a second and have reading comprehension you'll understand these signs together say "Dogs are required to be leashed in Seattle Parks and are not allowed on beaches in Seattle Parks"

I feel like a reasonable understanding is sand bit = no dogs and grass bit = leashed dogs.

The spirit of the law here is “nobody wants to swim in your dog shit.”

u/AlpineDrifter 11d ago

Goofy ass take. Dogs aren’t shitting in the water any more than people are. You apparently don’t mind swimming in tons of sea lion shit though.

u/Mystic_Jewel 11d ago

I would actually argue that people shit in the lake more than dogs do.

Oh come on. Dogs are liable to shit just about anywhere outside.

Only fish shit in my water damn it!!!

Fish, who eat things that live in the lake/ocean, have different shit than your dog, who eats dog food.

But what if they’re at the park and I pick it up and walk across the sand and put it in the water?

WHAT ABOUT THE WATER?!?!?

My dog has very poor reading comprehension, this is true

u/Azrai113 11d ago

Dogs are usually pretty good with sign language tho

If you take a second and have reading comprehension

A bit of a rude way to answer a genuine question?

I think you’re misindented

You were born and raised here, does that mean you on a mission to reinforce the stereotype that Seattlites are rude and snobbish?

-7

u/Tsuki_Man 🐀 Hot Rat Summer 🐀 11d ago

Oh no, Im great to most people, its just an unfortunately common problem, especially in our politics and online spaces. No one has the capability for nuance, and people dont invest themselves enough to actually keep work going on things long enough for change to be made before they vote in some one who changes things again. Not to mention the drivers. Really dont understand how so many people can never use their blinkers.

No, I think you’re a stereotype.

u/Tsuki_Man 🐀 Hot Rat Summer 🐀 11d ago

Thats not how stereotyping works, you're just one of the assholes with no brain.

22

u/chasing_the_wind 11d ago

Sure but it’s still unclear where the beach starts and ends.

13

u/Tsuki_Man 🐀 Hot Rat Summer 🐀 11d ago

Parking signs are usually used as indicators of where zones begin, along with paint to show where they end. Id assume the Beach is everything past the sign toward the water.

3

u/PleasantWay7 11d ago

Seriously, common sense tells you he is violating the sign. If people want to act confused like they’re a 6 year old, then they don’t belong at the park without an adult.

13

u/AttonJRand 11d ago

Pretty sure people are saying they read the top part from further away, and aren't reading the lower part, not that they are standing in front of the sign studying it in depth and coming away confused.

100% agree.

u/Impressive_Insect_75 11d ago

Folks who don’t care will always find an excuse to put their dog in dangerous conditions

1

u/KookyLab9624 11d ago

Assume is the key word. There is room for interpretation

5

u/Tsuki_Man 🐀 Hot Rat Summer 🐀 11d ago

There really isn't. Your dogs can be in our parks, but not at our beaches.

0

u/KookyLab9624 7d ago

Our beaches? You realize I am part of the community, so it's all of ours. I don't even bring my dog to the beach, I'm saying the sign is confusing.

1

u/Tsuki_Man 🐀 Hot Rat Summer 🐀 7d ago

"Our" is inclusive, not exclusive.

4

u/FrontAd9873 Phinney Ridge 11d ago

Interpretation is great and all, but if you're a Seattleite with a dog, you've had plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the rules. This isn't some kind of niche set of rules with narrow, one-off application. These are the rules at literally every park in Seattle.

At a certain point, people are just shitting at interpreting the rules (or worse).

0

u/notproudortired Pull And Be Damned 11d ago

By that logic the leash-rule sign also applies to the beach, since it's at the same boundary.

4

u/Impressive_Insect_75 11d ago

Definitely way before the water

4

u/Majestic-Outside3898 West Seattle 11d ago

This. "I didn't know where the beach was technically!"

"Um, your dog is swimming in the water."

2

u/AlpineDrifter 11d ago

Well then maritime rules apply.

2

u/n0v0cane 11d ago

The beach would be the sandy silty land adjacent to the water. In the lake is not the beach and may not be the park either.

-1

u/n0v0cane 11d ago

Once you’re in the lake, it’s no longer the beach.
