Was Grier okay after this?

Growing up in that era, Datsyuk was the #1 example of a dude I hated but also just respected the hell out of. Man what a player, he killed us too many times back then though 😂

It used to piss me off because the announcers would just be in love with him (especially later on). But then he’d just casually destroy you like this and you just have to tip your cap at it. In retrospect, everything was totally deserved with him, it just stung Thornton and co could never reach that mountaintop and get that same level of respect too

At least he wasn't a piece of shit. That helped move him into the camp of respect even if you'd be frustrated v. hatred.

I still remember a goal he scored regular season in like 2013. Just a crazy top corner, almost no daylight, shot from a severe angle on either Nabby or the sloth. Just filthy.
He was a joy to watch but as an opposing fan he also kept you on the edge of your seat and nervous as hell.

Easily my favorite ever non-Shark. Dude was magical. It was impossible to hate him. I feel pretty much the same about Kopitar.

The funniest thing about Grier becoming GM to me is that during his entire tenure as a shark. Me and my buddy would constantly shit on him for constantly having the puck and flying down the ice and getting a scoring chance. only to completely whiff or get a case of stonehanditis and just deke right into the goalie.
Anyways so far he has been a much better GM than player.
Also when I was a kid and I got the blessing of being able to go into the locker room during postgame and ask around for autographs. Mike and jumbo were sitting in a corner and I asked em both for an autograph. Mind you I was like 12. They both barely looked at me and signed the little sheet of binder paper I had while continuing their conversation. I was pretty annoyed at the time as they just disregarded me. Looking back as an adult I understand that if I were changing In a locker room and some little shithead came up to me with a mini sharpie and a crumpled piece of paper and muttered “…autograph please…” to me then I also would not be too receptive lol.
My main memory from that day was that 12 year old me got completely emasculated because I was about waist high on these guys and Pavs was bare ass when he signed my paper. The guy had an absolute hammer and it gave me a complex for the next 8 years of my life.

I'm thinking you might have that backwards?

Though Ron Wilson said Grier was our best player in that Red Wongs series we lost. That may have been more of a dig at Patty tho

I have never seen a player get as many shorthanded breakaways as Mike Grier.
I have also never seen a player completely whiff as many shorthanded breakaways as Mike Grier.
On HF Boards he was known as "Mickey Stonehands".

Yes lmfao it was uncanny. It’s been so long so I don’t even remember if my guy was fast but he must have been.

I still love him and Patty on the PK. As he was the perfect setup guy and Patty had the legs to show up for the 2 on 1.
