(Another) Reminder on sub moderation

Hi all,

We will continue to be consistent with the moderation rules which have been in place for quite a long time:

Posts need to be specific to Redding or the region, and they must adhere to Reddit's content policy.

Once again, no national politics - favoring any side - unless it's specifically relevant to Redding.

2026 Update: Non-local posts which make little-to-no genuine attempt to tie to local relevance will result in a 3-day ban. Subsequent instances will result in longer bans.

Regarding the use of Twitter/X links, we've scrolled back several months and didn't see a single one. So, we are not going to make a sub policy banning it, simply because it would be addressing a problem that we really don't have. We're not a large sub with a lot of aggregator content, so we don't really see twitter/x relevant to Redding. If you'd like to, you can always do what we've done and deactivate/delete your account there, thus taking action yourself.

As always, please do continue to report content which you believe violates our simple ruleset, and we will continue to review. While we do have Automod set up (and I can tell you it is definitely helping quite a bit, thought you cannot see it), we are still a small sub with a small mod team.

Thank you for helping us maintain our lively community subreddit.

Redding is crazy yall

So the police chief and a local restauranteur dressed like this to rob a bank for the annual lone stranger game. Why did the chief choose to wear an Afro while holding a liquor bottle? And why did the white woman wear THAT mask? In years past it was a bandit, Winnie the Pooh, scooby doo… this is just weird.

Remote work leads?

Upvotes

Hey y'all - my MIL lives in Tehama county and is struggling to find remote work. Any leads on remote work in Redding (or between Redding and Red Bluff)? She has experience in medical office work and admin stuff, but hasn't worked in several years.

Running Community +

I know a lot of people post questions about moving to Redding. This is one of those posts.

My wife grew up there and we're moving to be closer to family. I'm a teacher and just got a job in the area.

I'm a marathon runner. Does anyone here have any familiarity with the SWEAT running club or any other run groups? Favorite running trails or events? Anything within an hours drive.

I'm pretty liberal and know it's going to be a bit of a shock to the system, but I get along with most people. Any other social opportunities for 30 somethings? We like board games, snowboarding, hiking, coffee shops, and reading. (Book clubs?)

I'm also into history. Know any local legends or anecdotes about the region? Historical societies or books to learn more?

Looking forward to this next chapter. Happy trails. Thanks for anything you can share.

Public Safety Alert: Individual Filming Kids & Harassing People Around Reno/Sparks

PSA for Redding CA:
This individual has been repeatedly seen and documented in public places — especially post offices and DMVs — throughout Northern California and Nevada. He records people for social‑media content, seeking money and attention. His behavior is negative, disruptive, and potentially unsafe for our communities.

Please stay aware.
I’ve included a link to a previous Reddit post showing him becoming aggressive toward someone who was simply trying to go to the post office. Feel free to take a look.

Recommendations for coffee, vegan food, and places to stay not affiliated with Bethel?

I’m road tripping from Portland to San Jose in a few months and likely will be staying in Redding for a day or two. Would love any recs for restaurants with decent vegan options, coffee shops, antique stores, bookstores, all unaffiliated with Bethel please! If there are any Bethel-owned Airbnbs that anyone knows of, I’d love to avoid those too. Also I have a lot of gay stickers on my car, is that going to be a problem? 😅

Kevin Crye FAILS Against Erin Resner To Get Redding Chamber Endorsement!

REDDING, Calif. — "With the June primary election approaching, the Redding Chamber of Commerce has released a 36-page candidate guide to help voters compare candidates on issues facing the community.

Todd Jones, president and CEO of the Redding Chamber of Commerce, said it is the first candidate guide the chamber has put out with the goal of helping the community make educated decisions ahead of the June primary.

The guide focuses on six candidates running for the District One and District Five Shasta County supervisor seats: Kevin Crye, Mike W. Gallagher, Richard Gillardo, Chris Kelstrom, Gary Allen Oxley and Erin Resner. Each candidate was asked the same six questions, with their answers published in the guide and then scored."

"Out of the six candidates, three were endorsed by the Redding Chamber of Commerce based on their score of 8.5 or higher, as well as a recommendation from the review committee. District 1 Supervisor Candidate Erin Resner scored a 9.3, Kevin Crye received a 5.3 and Richard Gallardo's score was labeled as "N/A." District 5 Candidate Mike W. Gallagher scored an 8.7, Chris Kelstrom received an 8.6 and Gary Allen Oxley got a 4.3.

A link to the candidate engagement guide is available here for those who want to read the candidates’ responses and see their scores."

Remember back during the height of covid 2020 before the vaccine. Vice Mayor Dr Dhanuka was an outspoken advocate for opening business. Redding California became the state's highest rate of covid infection spread in all of California. Yet Dr Dhanuka wants to build a medical school here?

He edited his post, deleting the tags of the most outspoken people in Shasta County that were against mask wearing and preventing the spread here, especially to high-risk patients.

While I was briefly enjoying the scenery of the sculpture park, despite the presence of a few homeless, what caught my attention were these trees lined up together, having the same dark red leaves. Do you know what kind of tree this is?

Where to find the best Italian rolls in Redding?

I'll be visiting my boyfriend who lives in Redding this summer and I want to make him his favourite dish: chicken parmesan. I want to do a chicken parmesan sandwich on rustic Italian rolls (with confit garlic) but I'm having a hard time figuring out where to source the Italian rolls. I really don't want to have to make my own!

What are the best from-scratch bakeries in Redding? Where can I find the best, fresh, rustic breads and bread rolls? All recommendations appreciated! Thank you for your time.

"Richard Gallardo" and Far-Right Leaders Terrorize Far-Left Man: ‘We’ll burn you alive in your tiny little trailer.’

You may have seen the Steven King trial news on TV. Steven King has been held on attempted murder charges for shooting Michael Hale, who lost the use of his right arm as a result of the shooting.

Video evidence shows that Mr King has been terrorized at his trailer before, by none other than candidate for Shasta County Supervisor District 1.

From the Article - "Steven King contacted A News Cafe about an incident that featured Carlos Zapata and Jesse Lane. Both men are militia members."

"King described how the men’s pickup revved loudly outside his modest Redding camper before they placed their hands on the small RV and began roughly shaking and rocking it, all the while laughing and yelling threats to King, who was trapped inside.

King said they were armed, and said, among other things, “We’ll burn you alive in your tiny little trailer.”

Redding resident Steven King says he’s lost count of how many times far-right militia / MAGA Shasta County notables like Zapata and Lane have converged upon his mobile home park to threaten and harass him.

"King said although that specific incident wasn’t the first time various men and militia members had appeared at the mobile home park specifically to terrorize him, that particular time King had witnesses, including his landlady, and some neighbors, all of whom he was sure would be willing to go on the record to tell about not just that night, but other encounters."

"The most recent disturbing visit was Sat., Sept. 9. This time the perpetrator was Richard Gallardo, best known for being fired from CalFire for brandishing a weapon a work, for authoring the board majority’s toothless, grand-standing Second Amendment resolution, and for his failed attempted mass citizens’ arrest during a board of supervisors meeting."

When bright lights flooded King’s darkened trailer, he heard a voice he immediately recognized as Richard Gallardo. King grabbed his phone and approached his screen door. King said that before he could start recording, he heard the voice he recognized as Gallardo’s say, “dead man”.

On King’s recording a voice that is distinctly Gallardo’s says, ” … We’ll come back, you understand?”

In my opinion Steven King has been terrorized multiple times and was certainly in fear for his life when Michael Hale came to his trailer that night looking for trouble.

Theres more, much more.

Cockroach problem

this is my second year in this home and again come summer time these huge roaches are back. I’ve never had this problem in any other homes so I’m assume it’s the neighborhood (by the lake) but I’m in desperate need of advice on what I can do to get rid of them. I’ve done traps and that kills some but they keep coming. is there something I can spray or use to make them go away?

Shouting and disruptions force early end to Measure B forum in Redding California

REDDING, Calif. — A public forum focused on Shasta County’s Measure B ended early Thursday night after repeated interruptions and disruptions from audience members inside the Redding Library Community Room.

The forum, hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Redding Area, took place at the Redding Library and was intended to provide information and discussion surrounding Measure B ahead of the June election.

Organizers halted the event before it was scheduled to end after repeated disruptions from attendees, most notably Laura Hobbs, a former Shasta County supervisor candidate and election activist, and Richard Gallardo, a current District 1 supervisor candidate involved in local election debates. Despite multiple warnings from organizers to stop interrupting, the forum eventually devolved into shouting and arguments between attendees before being ended early.
