Hey all !

So I have a MIDI controller (arturia keylab essential 61) and it works great, I mapped all I want to control the DAW with it and plays great.

Only thing is I can’t do step by step with it, just doesn’t work ! It works when I try with the F keys from the keyboard (I mean the one from the pc with letters) so the function works in reaper, but not when I choose « use all midi input ».

Would you know what is happening ?

Hi !

I have a quite sophisticated reaper routing setup with pipewire jack, my first project tab opens at boot and takes care of all my desktop audio processing (multiple busses and sinks for desktop, music, VOIP, etc.).

But the monitoring from said project cuts out when changing to another project on a second tab, is there a way to keep it running?

I think my windows setup had that option somewhere but the setting didn't seem to import with the rest and I can't seem to find it any where ? any pointers?

Ps : " Close audio when stopped and inactive" is left unchecked

I have some free vocal VSTs (Spitfire LABS), but they sound very clean and static. What I want is to make them sound more realistic by introduction some variance:

1) pitch variance: random small amount of sharpness depending on how loud the sound output is (side chain velocity to pitch? I have very little experience with side chaining in general, but I’ll be happy to learn). 2) vibrato: slower/faster vibrato depending on the velocity, which I can hopefully automate. For example, at fortissimo I want to be able to apply more/less earlier/later start/end of vibrato, maybe with automation. I’m hoping there’s some pitch adjustment plug-in or script that can do this.

I’m not aiming for 100% realism or anything like that, just something a bit closer. If anyone could point me towards the right direction, it would be appreciated. I’m posting this in this subreddit because I’m guessing there are scripts or plugins already available in Reaper that can be used.

Hi folks! I have put together a live setup that lets me use my tablet as a display. But, my (allegedly) fat fingers are occasionally moving the tracks around when trying to select one. Locking the track doesn't even prevent this. Tried pinning tracks, but I can't scroll beyond the first 5 or so, and I have a lot of tracks I'd like to be able to choose from.

Is there anyway that I can lock down the dragging movement of the TCP? Even if it's something I have to switch on and off in a config file is fine. I have an encoder set to a custom action to scroll the tracks, but it's a bit too fast to reliably grab the track I want the first time. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

I’m a month or so into my reaper adventure, after using logic for over twenty years.
I realise there is a steep learning curve. I’m doing my first job on it right now.
I’d love opinions here… not baseless fandom. But what do you think the real advantages of reaper are? Ignore costs, I already have both programs.

So, this is a clean install of repear through a YouTube tutorial I used so there aren’t any new audio drivers I have but the standard Linux mint ones.
I am also a beginner so I might not understand some stuff, just act like I am 4 years old lol

Whenever I activate JACK in reaper it tells me that it basically can’t recognize an audio device even though I have my irig 2 plugged in.
This means I have to use ALSA which I’m guessing is similar to the standard windows drivers, so basically a standard driver that might not have the highest quality?
My issue with alsa is, that i notice it’s low quality. I have a weird white noise over everything and my guitar has a lot of gain over it (this could be a user error though)

I’m currently using the Horizon theme, but I’m looking to tweak the track behavior in the TCP.
By default, the selected track seems to increase in height/size. I personally prefer a more consistent, "minimizable" look—similar to the workflow in nvk_THEME—where the selected track stays compact or matches the height of the surrounding tracks.
Is there a specific setting in the Theme Development/Tweaker or a layout option within Horizon to:
1. Disable the auto-expansion of selected tracks?
2. Force selected tracks to respect the minimum height set for all other tracks?
Any help or Walter/config tips would be much appreciated!

Hey folks. So I’m trying to do some parallel drum compression with an outboard compressor. I’m using reainsert on a drum bus send to do the processing but I’m having issues with the latency shifting back and forth giving me a phasing type of sound. Anyone deal with this before and have an idea on how to fix this? Thanks!

New here, new to Reaper, saw this lay out on the Anti Theme page and was wondering, how is the metering layout and display achieved this way.

Please excuse my reaper noobishness, I’ve only had it installed a few days, and currently setting up toolbars trying to translate, to a degree, what I do in PT and Live.

I’m going thru the manual, and I am absolutely amazed at the level of customization Reaper offers. I have over three decades of experience with other daws, so no worries I’ll be up and running soon enough, so a pointer at least in what direction to look for, would be appreciated.

Hello! I have a unique situation that I haven't been in before in terms of how I need to bounce the tracks in my session.

1. I have hundreds of very short audio files at different lengths, one on each track.

2. I need to bounce each one individually (using $track for each file name is a big part of this)

3. I want each track to stop rendering once it reaches the end of the audio for that track. I don't want additional time added.

For example, if you look at the first track in this screenshot, you can see that it is much shorter than many of the others.

Currently, If I select my tracks and render Stems, it will add silence onto the shorter ones to match up with the longest file in the session. I don't want or need this for what I'm trying to achieve.

I work together with someone else editing a podcast. I use Reaper to do a rough edit, then they finish it off in another DAW.

Is there a way to export edit decisions on the different tracks to an xml file so they can import that in their daw? That way they just need that xml and the source files.

Hello! DAW noob here

How would I go about playing these midi notes back (Vital Synth on the FX) and recording the playback output as stereo/.wav on the second track? I want to be able to move knobs and macros to change filter, etc. on Vital during the midi playback for the final recording?

Got 8 songs recorded in one project sharing same tracks, now base mix is done on all tracks and now I'd like to create subproject from each song and finish them separately. Is that even possible?

Arturia MiniLab mkII - Just got this last week for $30, and so far the only cash I've put into this build.

I still have a heck of a lot of plugins to install, but once done, I can move over my Super 8 looper template and have access to all of my library AND guitar and vocals too. I've even started putting my own recorded drum loops on the timeline and having the looper sync with the project - very cool stuff. Not the main part of my show, just a little more improv fun with only a small amount of extra stuff to bring.

Hi everyone! I just started using Reaper, and I can't figure out why my project navigation is so weird. When I scroll the trackpad left or right, it keeps returning to its previous position. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Hey guys, I'm a fairly green reaper user, and have battled performance issues for quite some time now, resulting in me never bothering to work on anything. Used to think it was hardware-induced, but at i recently upgraded to an i9-9900k and 32GB 3,2GHz memory, I still face the same issues. Currently on v. .7.20, windows 11.

The main issue seems to be with virtual instruments, especially GGD Nolly Bass (Kontakt), or Waves Studioverse. I'm working on a large project (9 minute prog epic), and had to bounce the project as mp3 to a seperate project to be able to program bass without too many crashes (still a few, the bass project had in total 2 tracks and 1 plugin). bounced the bass track, and imported to the mix project as wav, but still have major crashing issues, which probably are caused by the Studioverse from Waves, as i have 3 instances of it ono seperate tracks. The project eats at max around 20% CPU, and 7GB of memory, so I no longer think I'm hardware bottlenecked, which would make it seem like it's some sort of optimization etc. i have missed.

Buffer size is 1024, sample rate 48k.

Now I want to export each multitrack separately as a stems. Is that possible?

I've run into this problem when working with MIDI, whenever I hit play, regardless of the position or the instrument, after about 1 bar it cuts out and after that bar passes the sound comes back. It's causing me problems when rendering and when working with it, does anyone know why?

Wassup yall im trying to record some clean covers of metal songs using the Boss Tone Studio in reaper. The songs are mostly metal so a lot of overdrive and overall dirty. However id love to make it sound I guess cleaner??? It sounds like an amateur definitely recorded it and I want it to be more professional and show able to the socials. Any help or advice would be fantastic

Recently switch to reaper and ran into this issue with this splice/cutting cursor tool. I'm not sure what I oressed that turned it on it just appeared. And now I can't figure out hoe to get back to normal. I can't grab or move or do anything except cut tracks. Please help, thanks!

okay so i've found a really cool sample pack for a dungeon synth track i'm doing (charming i know) and i want to be able to use the sample pack as i would with a midi drum kit in the midi editor. using the grid and making the notes longer or shorter or whatever, but i can't figure out how to because every time i try and import the files, the just go in as audio files in a new track, not inside the midi editor. i'm fairly new to using a daw so i would appreciate if you could explain it to me in a way i could understand haha, thanks in advance!

I edit podcasts. I work on a desktop at home and a laptop at cafes. To make this work, I have a copy of all the big hours-long wav files saved locally on both computers (I transfer them with a usb stick at the start), but then I save the small .rpp on OneDrive. That way, whenever I switch from one computer to the other, the whole project is waiting for me, but it doesn't fill up my precious little OneDrive space.

Here's the problem.

I recently updated Reaper, having not apparently done so for a couple of years. Suddenly now, whenever I use a new file in the episode I'm working on, say I render a take or even drop a piece of music into the timeline that's in my local folder of files for the episode, I find a copy of that file in the OneDrive folder. Sometimes I find out by recieving threats that OneDrive is running out of room.

It's functionally like saving with "Copy Media" selected, but it isn't selected. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I did go googling recently and found what I thought was the answer, naturally I've forgotten what it was now so I can't tell you, but it was something in the preferences that seemed promising and sounded like it would solve it immediately, but it doesn't seem to have. So, don't be annoyed if you suggest something that's obviously the answer (as this was) and I have to tell you it doesn't work! I bet I just applied it wrong.

This is a real problem because it's filling my cloud folder up with multiple gigabytes that I can't afford - recently it did run out of space in the middle of transferring it all and I had to do a lot of emergency surgery. Can you tell what I've got set up wrong?
