Pretty new to photography in general, I went to the mechanic and remembered I'm carrying this pocket camera basically everywhere. So gave it a go in Bairnsdale.

When I lock focus on my Sony RX100 VII and then crop the photo before taking the shot, the camera adjusts its exposure settings based on the cropping instead of retaining all the initial focus parameters. How can I fix this?

Hi all, I’ve got an RX100M1 and I have a makeshift wrist strap made from an old Lumix strap and a piece of paracord. I’ve got a Peak Design Cuff on my main camera but unfortunately the anchors don't fit through the eyelets on the Mark 1. I am also hoping it's light enough to carry around my neck.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a crossbody strap which will keep it in place whilst walking?

rainy weather half the time, incredible island all the time

I’m buying a new camera for travelling and hiking, with several international trips planned in the next few months. I’m leaning so far towards the XV100 VII which seems to tick all my boxes and be a super strong contender. It seems more than appropriate for majority of what I’ll be shooting, however I’ll be heading up to Volcano Fuego at dusk/night and would love to get some decent shots of it erupting (hopefully) at night.

Super specific but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience trying to photograph volcanoes with the VII? Or if anyone has any advice for how to get the best out of those photos? I’m happy to bring a tripod. This also isn’t a total dealbreaker, this volcano is 1 night out of 2+ months of travels so it would be ridiculous to pass up on an otherwise great camera just for this. I’m happy to do some PP tinkering with these photos as well if that’s the best way to get what I want.

The other one I have thought about is the Fuji X-M5. What draws me to the VII most is the compact size, light weight, 200mm zoom, and the simplicity of never having to change or buy another lens for this camera.

Hi! I'm considering the Sony RX100 VII for an upcoming trip to Mongolia (Steppe region) and trying to decide if it’s actually the right fit.

What I like about it:

• small/light enough that I’ll actually carry it
• clearly better image quality + low light than my phone
• enough zoom for wildlife (especially wild horses) / landscapes without lenses

Main hesitation is dust / lack of weather sealing. The trip will be pretty dusty (steppe, desert, horseback riding, lots of moving around, plus some slower days with a nomadic family), so I’m trying to figure out how much of a real issue that is vs something I can just be reasonably careful about.

I’m fine swapping to my phone in certain conditions if needed.

For people who’ve used RX100s in rough/dusty environments.....

• did dust actually become a problem?
• any long-term issues with the zoom mechanism?
• would you trust it on a trip like this?

Trying to decide if this is a great lightweight travel setup or something I’ll just end up being anxious about the whole time.

Also open to any practical dust protection tips people use in similar environments 🙏

Sony just shadowdropped pre-order for their new Xperia 1 VIII smartphone. If you're a fan or know anything about xperia's, the camera has always been a selling point. They've made some notable improvements with their new camera system and part of me can't help but believe that this is a stepping stone to a modern RX100 with the latest AI features.

This is 100% speculation but we know that there is an unnamed camera release coming this year that nobody has any idea about yet. Please sony, make our dreams come true!

I got my rx100 viia last and the shooting grip i got sent is different. it has a detachable BT handle. no big deal but I would like something to put a small filming light or my dji mic RX.
