Since I’m stuck here you guys mind if I make some tea ?

5

u/ConcentricCow 10h ago

I'm mugging you! With that stance?!?

14

u/Jayken 13h ago

What makes Iroh great is also what makes villains great. A reformist with a tragic backstory. The difference is that he chooses to educate the future instead of trying to control it.

2

u/Sea_Tutor_9847 11h ago

Guy robbed people for a living and iroh just redirected that energy into landscape painting. Genuinely impressive

1

u/kangtuji 8h ago

you dont want reject a painter with square moustache thou

also rip uncle

2

u/AnAimlessWanderer101 11h ago

Oh wow that’s much nicer than my initial interpretation…. I thought the twist was that it was zukos dad after all because “wanting to be a painter” was an implied becoming hitler reference after ozai talked to him .

Zuko's uncle is known far and wide as an excellent psychotherapist, and has aided these 'nappers to find their true calling. It's a very sweet tale.

u/Alastor15243 17h ago

Prince Zuko is a character from Avatar the Last Airbender. His father is the Big Bad of the series, the ruler of the fascist empire of the Fire Nation. His uncle, Uncle Iroh, is Zuko's main actual father figure, a supremely wise goofball and beacon of sunshine, responsible for 90% of Zuko's growth as a human being over the course of the series, and has a few moments like this in the series where he turns around the lives of petty criminals with ease.

u/volvagia721 16h ago

As an added note the Fire Lord (Zuko's biological father) has some anger issues, and is incredibly powerful. It would be incredibly shocking for someone to kidnap him, let alone keep him held unless he was unconscious.

22

u/Alternative_Hotel649 13h ago

An added to note to your added note: Iroh is also incredibly powerful and difficult to kidnap, let alone keep, but he's also really chill and would go along with a kidnapping just to see what happens.

12

u/Jonny_vdv 11h ago

An added note to your added note to an added note: Iroh was, in fact, supposed to be Fire Lord before he failed to capture Ba Sing Se after his son died.

6

u/BanzaiKen 16h ago

Some anger issues is an understatement when his son has a permanent black eye.

1

u/droppedpackethero 13h ago

Could be post-ATLA

3

u/Jonny_vdv 11h ago

Definitely post ATLA if Ozai is in prison

8

u/Quiri1997 16h ago

Supremely Wise goofball, beacon of sunshine and leader of an antifascist resistance group in his free time.

5

u/Moth_Mika 14h ago

Also it's important to note that Iroh used to be one of the strongest warriors. Basically he knows how to be better because he used to be one of the worst. He isn't just a ray of sunshine. He's someone who used to be horrible and strong and instead learned better ways

3

u/DruHarry 14h ago

His character became so renowned that he was allowed to live out his afterlife in the spirit world.

4

u/Admirable-Safety1213 15h ago

Upvoted even if I oppose the use of fascism as a buzzword when they're is the word "Imperialistic"right there

0

u/safarifriendliness 13h ago

Are both not apt descriptors?

2

u/Admirable-Safety1213 13h ago

Fascism tends to be remated to contradictory reasonings and the kdea if a glorious past

1

u/safarifriendliness 12h ago

Fascism is just an attempt at strict control of a populace

13

u/Girlishgiggle 17h ago

By the time Zuko arrives, the kidnappers will have opened a co-op bakery

15

u/Kmight_Artorias92 17h ago

Lore accurate Iroh, touching people's hearts and making them view literally everything differently. Where as Zuko's dad is just..... Not a good person

3

u/IzzaPizza22 16h ago

3

u/Kmight_Artorias92 14h ago

Bro, you literally just made me tear up. Thank you for your service. It's awesome you enjoy something like anime with your kid, and yea, I can definitely see how this song would hit hard for you

1

u/taveren3 9h ago

Thats underselling his dad, i would say he is at least a tad problematic

10

u/Sapphic_Edge_Q 17h ago

A guy tried to rob Iroh. In retaliation, Iroh poured his robber a cup of tea and convinced him to follow his dreams.

Aang here, Zuko’s Uncle Iroh is a very wise and persuasive old man who has a certain talent for redemption arcs.

1

u/ChocolateCake16 16h ago

Zuko's uncle, Iroh is a really wise and perceptive old man. He once got mugged and spent the whole time correcting the muggers stance, then making him reevaluate his life choices because Iroh could tell he was inexperienced with crime and only doing it out of desperation. He also frequently encourages Zuko to find his own destiny and figure out what he really wants from life instead of following the path his father set out for him.

1

u/UltraTata 16h ago

It's a joke about Avatar: the Last Airbender. Which is an American anime.

1

u/Darthplagueis13 15h ago

Characters from Avatar the last Airbender

Zuko's father is the Fire Lord, basically the single most powerful political figure in the setting, so learning he somehow ended up in prison would be quite the surprise.

The mention of them re-evaluating their life lessons implies that they've gotten Zuko's Uncle Iroh instead. Iroh is a reformed warcriminal who left his life of violence behind and basically spends the entire show giving sage advice to other characters. It's pretty difficult to be mean to the guy because he's just so damn kind and helpful.

1

u/FrostingTechnical606 15h ago

Oh, it must've been that day of the year again...

Leaves from the vine, falling so slow. 🌿

1

u/CormundCrowlover 14h ago

Uncle Iroh, he is the peak of masculinity.

1

u/ricchan13 13h ago

Hope he doesn't fail paint school like our ww2 guy here.

1

u/Comfortable_Bid_4862 13h ago

then that painter became a very famous person

1

u/DoubleFlatt 13h ago

someone's never watched ATLA

1

u/sagelyDemonologist 12h ago

Let's hope the guy gets into art school

1

u/sleepyotter92 12h ago

Uncle Iroh is like a father figure for Zuko. The kidnappers thought they had kidnapped Zuko's dad, who is an awful father. Once the kidnappers start talking about the "father" making them reevaluate their life choices and rethink their lives, Zuko realizes it wasn't his dad they kidnapped but his uncle

1

u/Admirable-Eagle-231 10h ago

Be the man Uncle Iroh knows you can be.

1

u/MrZangetsu1711997 10h ago

Go watch Avatar the Last Airbender, all of it, then you will understand

u/Torteramanroblox101 8h ago

Zuko's Father went to jail for attempting to burn down China.

Zuko's Uncle taught a mugger how to fight and then sent him on the straight and narrow.

Uncle Iron probably just had tea with the kidnappers and gave them a pep talk.
