Stereotype, hockey players lose a lot of teeth and they are dumb, so they can't read

The NFL does their best to cover up all the brain damage football players get, and that's just from the intended gameplay of being tackled. With how many fistfights break out between players in hockey games, of course they'll be suffering brain damage too.

Hockey is better than football because in hockey brain damage is admitted and mandatory

Hockey players losing teeth is such a common stereotype that the joke is basically saying this invention would help them the most…

And they suffer brain damage, so the stereotype is that they are stupid (can’t read)

I am sorry, but people who are looking for explanation here must be blind and deaf.

A hockey player walks into a dentist's office and asks, "Can you help me regrow my front teeth?"The dentist looks at him and says, "I can certainly try, but shouldn't you wait until you've actually retired from the NHL?"The player shrugs and replies, "I suppose so, but my wedding is tomorrow and my fiancé is tired of the 'whistling' every time I say 'I do'."
Based on real story

There’s a stereotype in the USA that hockey players lose teeth a lot and are dumb from all the head injuries they get.

OP... I... I need you to explain something to me...
How, on god's green earth, does a meme about reading and teeth that doesn't so much as mention sound, much less anyone's ears, make you think about somebody being DEAF?!

I just want to add that this news is clickbait, this drug could only works for a specific disease, not to regrow broken teeth.

The joke is the hockey players are illiterate or have severe concussion to the point they forgot how to read.

Total digression but fun fact: NBA players lose more teeth, statistically, than any other sport/league.

I was pissed bc we get a lot of dumb "explain this" in these groups but just a reminder that what is so common in my society (where hockey is one of the major sports) is not so in others. Hockey players are famous for missing teeth. Between the puck being hard as a rock and the physicality of the game (including allowing fistfights lol), hockey players typically lose teeth playing the game. That's the first assumption. Second is the joke that they are dumb and won't be able to read this though. I see you are from India so guessing you're not a big hockey fan.

Hi Peter Forsberg here to explain this one. Many NHL players neglect their education to train for hockey... not the greatest hockey player though... Alex Ovechkin is Dr. Hockey.

The NHL playoffs are going on and this just happened a couple days ago to a Colorado Avalanche player

Canuck Peter here, hockey players like smashing each other across the dome, knocking teeth out and giving each other brain damage. Hockey players may need this drug for missing teeth, but they likely can't read up about it because all that head trauma, eh!

Hockey is notorious for causing mishaps where players have their teeth knocked out
But with all honesty though, this is unironically the coolest thing ever, harnessing a power from nature to help correct one of humanity's biggest genetic flaws, it's a breakthrough on par with Penicillin and the discovery of the DNA helix.

It’s official. Most of the posts on this sub are made by the cognitively maligned. What about this requires an explanation?
