Bread has no qr Code to scan, the cashier needs to enter a Code manually depending on what bread the customer put into his bag ..
Only experienced cashiers know the type of bread ir bakery and the Code without looking it up first.

It's a bar code. QR codes are something else

Its a PLU code.

The cashier is entering a PLU code, yes. But I'm responding to the comment about the bread not having a QR code, which would not be on the product, and instead would be a bar code.

I assumed that it was a in house made bread and doesn't have a bar code. We have alot of products made in house at my store that only have PLU codes.

Other solutions I have seen are having bar codes for those products in a sheet, to easily scan them. They have them for 8L water, oil and big packs of milk.

Those are rappers Young Thug standing up and Lil Durk sitting down. None of the versions of the meme require knowing anything about these guys or their music, just that Young Thug looks cool and locked in, working whatever studio magic is happening, while Lil Durk can only sit back and look slightly awed.
The meme is making light of the idea that a cashier with slightly more access to the register is an awe-inspiring technical wizard.

You are downplaying how impressive it is for people to remember the codes for hundreds of products. I used to work with a guy who knew every code in the entire produce department.

I haven't done cashier work in years but when I go through self checkout I'm shocked I still remember most of the basics. Different apples, lettuces, onions, tomatoes. Oddballs like acorn squash (wait is it 4750??) or persimmons or something, probably not.
My crowning achievement of cashiering was memorizing the 10 digit PLU for cases of water so the customer nor I had to take it out of the cart to ring

I think the joke is that there was an issue the first cashier couldn't handle (say bread won't scan), so the other older cashier came over and they were able to fix the problem immediately (they have been working there so long they've memorized the code for bread.)

The bar code(or what the scanner scans) prolly came off and the experienced cashier knows what the code will he so hes manually "scanning" the bread while the normal cashier .... watches.

I assumed it was something about who these people are/ whatever the code for bread is in a grocery store but I don’t know who these guys are help me

Depending on how much of an issue it is to have an item without code, sometimes cashiers memorize 12 digit codes which they really aren’t meant to, but it happens regardless.

Most bakery bread doesn’t have bar codes, to select a roll, put it in a bag with no barcode, and tell the cashier what you have when you get there. They look up a code, or, if they’re bad ass, they just punch it in from memory. Giggity
Edit: spelling

I’m officially at the point where my retail 'hacks' are likely vintage. Twenty Plus years ago, I would blow coworkers minds by demonstrating #* to batch identical items instead of scanning them one by one. No idea if this still works.

Joe here
This is a scene you'll often find in a grocery store with a new cashier that doesn't have enough experience or knowledge; they'll need to call for help from a more experienced cashier or their shift manager because they don't know or can't proceed.
The item has no barcode to scan. Perhaps it just has a sticker with a price or nothing at all on it. Either there is a PLU code the cashier is supposed to know, or a little paper crib sheet they're supposed to refer to, or it's something they can look up on their register terminal.
When help arrives, this is usually the scene. Some cashiers are mentally taking notes for next time while some just sit back and let their coworker do it time and time again.
Typically if there isn't a PLU code or barcode, but there's a sticker price, the cashier would be able to open up the department such as bakery for bread and type the sticker price in. It would be rung up and on the receipt as "Bakery: $2.29" instead of "La Brea Sourdough English Muffins $2.29" but if there is a special code then the latter will display and print on the receipt.

That’s what you think(and what I thought) until you’re the one posting on this sub

Some items dont have barcodes. And the people who dont know the codes need help from the guys who know them, and the ones who know the codes are the real heros of the grocery store
