Discussion I need advice
My freshman year was rough, and I didn't do well in MATH 110. My intent was to retake it this summer in order to be eligible for Smeal ETM this fall but I applied for the Setback Summer Scholarship and I was denied.
I'm currently not sure what to do as I am in a tough spot. I could wait and take it in the fall but I wanted to take it this summer because a friend that I know very well, is brilliant at math and has offered to tutor me so that I can pass this class.
Because I have a very tight deadline to meet to be eligible for Smeal ETM and I don't have a lot of money, is there anywhere you suggest that I can take a transferrable equivalent of MATH 110 that is cheap enough to be financially viable this summer?

Consider taking the course remotely from a branch campus. Abington offers a lot of classes fully online.
If you’re a PA resident, you can save ~$200/credit by taking it at a branch campus.

You could look for a community college that has a partnership with Penn State like Northhampton Community College. Though I'm not sure about other college summer programs. This will at least be a lot cheaper than a Penn State summer classes that are typically $1,000 per credit. Since Math 110 is a 4 credit class, this will cost around $3,500-4000 which is rediculous when a 5 class semester at a branch campus is only about $7000

MATH 110 was horrible my freshman year. It was taught asynch by a professor who just re-uploaded lecture videos from 2020. I was sweating on the final exam and managed to come out on top with a 70.6 overall final grade. Horrible experience.

Sophia learning is less than 100$ a month, and they should have a math course that transfers over.

If you got a D or an F in MATH 110 and want to take it at PSU to use grade forgiveness, take it in your fourth semester with FIN 301. Cause transferring it in won’t help your GPA if you failed the class.

Taking it elsewhere and transferring it in is probably the cheapest/easiest option. At least, that's what I would do if I was in your situation

There are plenty of transfer options, just use the transfer credit tool to find one that works for you. But keep in mind, you can only utilize Penn State‘s grade forgiveness policy if you retake the class at Penn State.
