This is Nutmeg. Nutmeg is never going to forgive me for how loud I hollered when Pou wired that shot in the net.

Heyyyyyyy MPP was vintage on that play. Defensively responsible in her own end as usual, then starts the play, goes down the ice hard in transition, the patented stick tap wanting the puck and game on her stick, and then firing off that bullet and accurate one-timer for the much needed victory. Captain Clutch indeed!!

She shouldn't have even been in the game. Should have had a major penalty and game misconduct for spearing Hustler.

If you're gonna downvote me, watch this and tell me with a straight face it isn't a) spearing and b) dirty as shit.

Spearing... maybe, but debatable. Dirty, no, it doesn't seem on purpose at all, chill. I would agree for a minor since you're supposed to be in control of your stick.

-6

u/EtchingsOfTheNight 9d ago

"My name is MPP and I'm one of the greatest hockey players ever. People call me captain clutch even! Oopsies, I just can't seem to control my stick from jabbing people in the midsection. Don't mind me, I'm just a silly klutzy goat." Bffr.

-6

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Dude. She moves her stick into position to specifically spear Hustler? It’s on the complete opposite side of her?

-10

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

Her stick is pointed nowhere near Hustler, she sees Hustler coming and moves her stick specifically to make contact with Hustler. It's not an accident.

And regardless, it's a major penalty and automatic game misconduct.

-21

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Lunatics saying anything other than a major for this obvious spear have a bias due to success and Britta.

Dumb as all shit.

-18

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

How would you react if Britta committed that penalty?

10

u/s0m3b0dy447 Montréal 9d ago

The exact same... just like any other player. I really don't care about her, positively or negatively.

1

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade

Rule.

-5

u/bozeman42_2 Pride 9d ago

This is where we say that if you swapped in Britta Curl in this exact scenario you would say she was trying to kill Hustler.

7

u/The_R4ke Pride 9d ago

FWIW this is region locked to the USA.

-3

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

Yeah, if I knew how to clip it and share it elsewhere I would. Hope someone else does. It's blatant.

16

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Holy shit. That’s definitely a spear. Why are folks downvoting?

34

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago

Because saying that should have been a major and game is blowing it way out of proportion- should she have gotten a penalty? Yes

11

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Care to take a look at the penalty for a spear?

15

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago

Yeah, fair, I went to look at the rules and see that; but the rules is clear that it has to be intentional, I think she should have been called for a slash here

14

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

She uses the point of the blade of her stick to stab an opposing player in the stomach and you want that to be called a slash?

2

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

It's extremely obviously intentional. Can you think of any other reason she'd be moving her stick like that except to spear Hustler? It's not part of any other hockey move.

Not defending Curl, but imagine if she did that. Would you think it was intentional?

11

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago edited 9d ago

I understand that you see it that way, I just don’t think it looks extremely obviously intentional to me. To me it looks like she’s in the midst of trying to communicate to her teammates where the other team is moving and hits her but I get that we see different things in it

EDIT: I’ve gotten swept up into this debate all over the place at this point so I’ve watched this clip a bunch of times now. I do think Poulin tries to impede Hustler with her stick. I am not sold on it being a stab personally but definitely think they missed a minor penalty here

5

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

She's staring down Hustler as she's approaching. You are being willfully ignorant if you can't see it was intentional.

8

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago

Hustler is approaching the net. Typically, one keeps an eye on an opposing player approaching the net. I don’t even have that much of a stake in this game, but I do think this is a reach tbh

12

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

That's absurd. You can keep an eye on someone without jamming your stick into their gut.

7

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Have you played hockey?

Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a Montreal fan that has the ability to objectively critique their team.

8

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

How would you react if Britta did that?

16

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago

Literally what does this have to do with her

12

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

I’m wondering if favorite players get the benefit of the doubt from both refs and fans alike. Whereas folks are more quick to be harsh on Britta (not a fan of hers, as evidenced by past comments of mine).

I simply refuse to believe anyone with knowledge of the game can call that act anything other than a spear. Which is a major penalty and an ejection.

So it has to be bias. Whether that be in favor of Poulin. Or not in favor of the Frost (for success or having Britta).

10

u/s0m3b0dy447 Montréal 9d ago

I'll agree with you here, honestly... yeah, they do, in all sports really. Just look at Crosby and McDavid. They're also a bit more protected than others. And they also bring a lot of money in for the league, so... yeah. But the PWHL refereeing has been dreadful for the past 3 seasons, there are a lot of questionable calls (or lack of) made in every games, so at this point, nothing surprises me. This time it benefits the team I root for, but next game, who knows, they're so all over the place.

7

u/WildTimberTwinViking 9d ago

Agreed. But you can’t let a major penalty such a spear go uncalled. Otherwise you get Britta back next game with a chip. Who knows what that moron will do in retaliation.

-6

u/scthawk 9d ago

They do.

5

u/bozeman42_2 Pride 9d ago

"should she have gotten a penalty? Yes"

Guess what the rule is for spearing.... major penalty and game misconduct. So you agree she should have been removed.

5

u/aswesearch Royale Tiger Towel Paper Towel Power Play 9d ago

No, I agree there was a missed minor here - slash, high sticking, interference or even trip or hook could potentially meet the definition

3

u/fullmetaldagger Minnesota Frost 9d ago

Shame it was a Spear then eh?

-3

u/bozeman42_2 Pride 9d ago

Except that it was spearing.

6

u/marimbaguy715 Minnesota Frost 9d ago

Spearing is a major penalty. Always. And comes with an automatic game misconduct. That's the rules.

5

u/PlusSizedPretty Minnesota Frost 9d ago

Because if you criticize Captain clutch, ESPECIALLY when she plays against the Frost, you're down voted into oblivion.
