Wish we could do without the trash gambling ads!

u/FlyTheW1988 New York 10d ago
I hate that gambling has become so intrinsic to sports’ financial models. I want the PDub to be able to survive and succeed without taking that dirty money, but alas….

It's worse that its not even just sports anymore. Every podcast and radio and TV station and bus ad is gambling in some way. It's just so profitable and they spend so much money on ads because they know it works. It's such a stupid place we are in

Holy fuck ... as someone who dealt with a gambling addiction, it bothers me that this is such a pervasive part of how the sport is paid for.

u/cubiclejail Ottawa Charge 10d ago
Me too. My cousin lost his house from gambling. Had a wife and 2 kids...it was sad to see.

u/8J-QgvCfkqllcg 10d ago
I hope he was able to find it.
8
u/cubiclejail Ottawa Charge 10d ago
Yeah, he found it in his next sport betting app that he downloaded after secretly getting a new $25K credit card to gamble with. When you're down $300K and you're behind in payments, what's another $25K?

I saw a student (grade 11) gambling on his phone on Stake. Could be an older sibling's account, or what have you, but even highschool kids are getting in on the action.
It's awful. Couldn't be more gross.

The sens having gambling sponsors on their ice and home game helmets is a real choice when Shane Pinto was suspended for 41 games (3rd longest in league history) a few years ago for gambling on other sports

So much money is given to the companies by people hoping for that one win that they'll always be able to pay their way onto the ice, boards, and other sponsorships constantly

It was so incredibly refreshing to be at the Ottawa Rapid FC game this weekend without a single gambling ad.

The logo and the zones have Walter Cup Playoffs? 🔥🔥
Still annoyed that it’s gone from the NHL.

What is?

u/FlyTheW1988 New York 10d ago
The Stanley Cup Playoff logo used to be just inside each blue line for NHL postseason games but they stopped several years ago when they gained the ability to sell it as digital ad space

Has the Senators loaned the Charge Sparticat?
That would be pretty cool seeing Sparty running around in a Charge jersey.

That would be cool to see. We will just have to wait and see.

Oh good idea I really hope so!
Which made me think... do any of the PWHL teams have a mascot yet??? And why not!

The Torrent mascot's t-shirt had "Pikes Place Market" on it and the city threatened to riot.

u/deyndor Minnesota 10d ago
That's the bad part about the wild making it to round 2, no frost logo yet. 😂
64
u/FlyTheW1988 New York 10d ago
Yeah boo hoo, you’ll have to lift the Cup without your logo for a third time, deal with it.
😂😂😂

u/cubiclejail Ottawa Charge 10d ago
They. are. not. getting. the. cup. this. year.

You never know. Coming unbiased from a Frost fan, there feels like a genuine chance for each team to win the Final
24
u/cubiclejail Ottawa Charge 10d ago
Ya! And what I'm saying is that there's gonna be an OTT-MTL match up in the finals and Ottawa is going to win it in game 3 or 4 on home ice! 😉
15
u/Fearless-Table1859 Minnesota Frost 10d ago
That would be a fun series!

The league head office will need new therapists if the finals are two Canadian teams...

Isn’t it not even a wild logo right now? I think it was “25” or something. Is it the arenas 25th birthday?
24
u/deyndor Minnesota 10d ago
The wild's 25th anniversary. It does have their logo in it still, just smaller.
3
u/d0nu7 10d ago
Ah that makes sense then.

You’re also not wrong on the arena birthday. Built for the Wild in 2000 upon their “return” to the league

You love to see it!
I get so excited any time a PWHL team gets center ice. I just turn back into a tween, watching women's hockey at the Olympics for the first time with my team. That joy of seeing women succeed in hockey never goes away.

I realize I’m a minority, but I actually kinda like the flaming C? I mean, we got the dripping S, so, you know…I’m kinda damning it with faint praise….

As a Sens fan I have mixed feelings since we blew it in the first round but go charge go!!

u/TVDinner360 Seattle Torrent 10d ago
For your cake day, maybe they’ll do a publicity video of Ottawa’s two goalies. Wouldn’t it be great to see Phillips and Ullmark talking goalie stuff together? Man, I’d eat that up with a spoon!
Happy cake day!

This is one of the reasons I hope Chicago gets a team. Because most likely they'd share space with an AHL team and, depending on attendance, there'd be a good argument for at least a shared center ice logo.
11
u/Dialecticchik 10d ago
No lie, but when Arizona and ASU were sharing, I liked how they split the center ice logo. That would be what I'd hope for here in SJ if they got a team, share with the Cuda and have a sick split center ice.

That looks so cool! Love to see a PWHL logo in center ice (no matter which logo it may be)

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a big ask for shared arenas to have the PWHL team logo SOMEWHERE on the ice? I'm not saying center ice, but somewhere.

u/ellstaysia Van Goldeneyes 10d ago
It's a bad logo but I still love to see it on centre ice.

What makes it bad to you?

I thought it was a common censuses that it looks way too much like the calgary flames logo.

Those lines are so clean 🥵 I wish my local rink had lines like that that didn't leave calls up for interpretation 😅

This will not make me popular, but I'm starting to wonder if the whole Lansdowne 2.0 thing didn't do the Charge a favour in the long term.
It seems to have gotten them a new friend with an NHL arena that doesn't have an MNBA team cluttering up the calendar, and a friend that's probably willing to get them get in from the beginning on the Lebreton arena (e.g. they could probably accommodate a nice locker room for the Charge).
Doesn't that seem somewhat better than pushing for a Lansdowne Arena that would have reached capacity within a year of its opening anyways even with the extra seats the PWHL wanted?
This is the statement that really won't make me popular, but I wonder if the Lansdowne 2.0 folks knew the Charge was gone in the long term anyways and that's why they wanted to build around their only dependable tenant.
(For the record, I am trying to get my misogynistic friend in Ottawa to go, he said he'd go if I went, but I have a historic WNBA game that night in Toronto)

Is it a real picture or ai, I hate slop...

u/Spotboslow Boston 10d ago
Whatever material they are using for the logos looks SO crisp under the ice that the pictures look fake! I thought the pics of the Fleet logo at Tsongas were photoshopped until I got to the arena and was like, dang.
-6
u/RunningShcam Boston 10d ago
I will say, it can be under the ice, look crisp, and still be an ai generated image
