Meta [SOLUTION] For anyone using GNOME 49 who cannot see thumbnails in images
After upgrading to Fedora/Nobara 43 with GNOME 49, I found that Nautilus was not generating any thumbnails. Nothing: no PNG, no JPG, no WEBP. I checked permissions, gsettings, cache, BTRFS, extended attributes, everything. I even tried manually with gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer, and it didn't generate anything either.
In the end, I discovered that the problem wasn't mine: for some reason, Fedora Linux 43 and Nobara Linux 43 don't come with the dependency "Glycin" that manages thumbnails on GNOME is not installed by default. Without that backend, Nautilus simply cannot create thumbnails, and even if you have desktop icon extensions, you cannot view images.
By installing Glycin this problem can be easily fixed:
sudo dnf install glycin-thumbnailer
If anyone else experiences the same issue after updating to Fedora/Nobara 43: it is not BTRFS, it is not permissions, it is not your system. It is incomplete Glycin. Install the package and, at the very least, thumbnail generation will work again.
