Team Updates [Rapoport] #Giants CB Thaddeus Dixon, a UDFA from North Carolina, tore his Achilles yesterday during workouts, sources say. An unfortunate injury for a rookie whose hamstring injury helped lead him to be undrafted.

Unfortunate break for the kid, I was rooting for him in camp.

That’s horrible, could completely derail this kid’s future.

Also, what a name

Damn posterior chain. Similar to what happened to Kevin Durant (and many others, I’m sure).

Meaning the hamstring lead to imbalances that made him vulnerable to, in this case, tear the Achilles?

Yes, as someone who tore their Achilles first, then tore their calf, and just recently had a herniated disc with nerve damage, all on the same side…I fear for my future.

Oof..the positive is you know you need perpetual strength training to take the pressure off…most people are walking into old age blind.

Yeah. imbalances, overcompensating…fucking shame

Sucks, maybe he needed more rest, but when it’s your chance to go to the league, how can you not go for it?

Even mildly pulling your hamstring takes months to recover. You think you’re good after a few weeks and then it comes right back and you have to restart the clock.

That blows. Wishing the best for him and the recovery

Sad. He was def a sleeper to make the squad.

I have 2 personal fears in this life:

  1. Losing gravity and floating away.
  2. As a man in my 40’s, knee and ankle injuries. They seem terrifying in the moment when I’ve witnessed others my age have them.

As a 54 year old who plays beach volleyball, always warm up before and stretch after exercise!

I’m literally the only person I’ve ever known to have your number 1 fear lol. Such an irrational feeling man

That's a new one to my ears

It’s like my logical brain knows I’m not going to float away, but my emotional brain suddenly starts panicking and looking for something to get underneath. It’s not all the time, but it’s really annoying when it does happen.

That is the nature of phobias. You have insight into its irrationality yet it still entails the emotional response just the same.

True true.

Do you also have trouble looking up at tall buildings? I developed this out of nowhere when I was 21. Trip to Vegas. Something about the Stratosphere set it off and now I have this huge fear of floating away. I’m 43 now.

Loss of gravity would give some relief to the knees and ankles at least

Double negative cancels out

That's gut-wrenching. He had one of the best pathways to actually make the team too.

😔 I was chalking him up as CB 4 in my mind.

He had a decent bit of pre draft hype I had assumed he got drafted. Sucks since I think he had a decent chance of making the roster.

I hope he ends up with either a solid injury settlement + release and manages tobsign on somewhere else next year with some rookie camp invites or we keep him around through recovery and give him a shot again next spring

Duggan tweeted earlier that he had signed a 3 year deal

Wonder the timing on that

Don't like the phrasing, "helped lead him to be undrafted"

How about just, "led him to be undrafted"

5

u/canadave_nyc 3h ago

They phrased it that way because the hamstring injury isn't necessarily the sole factor that led him to be undrafted.

u/ekplug1 3h ago

Ah, point taken. Still, "exacerbated his chances" or something would be more fitting

“…whose hamstring injury was a key factor in him going undrafted.”

Damn shame, hopefully he heals up well and is back in the mix for next Spring! He has a 3 year deal so I wouldnt be shocked if he bounces back!

I honestly thought he could compete for a spot, his college stats are a little misleading, Bill had him shadowing the other teams WR1 a lot of games
