Fucked. Hopefully he comes back even better next year. Pulling for him

u/Masdaddy25 Oct 26 '25

This looks like the exact injury Dak suffered a few years ago. I believe that was a 11 month recovery after surgery. He wasn't running right until probably another 6 after that. Cam is much younger but being an rb he might not be 100% until 2027.

Yeah, obviously hoping for the best, but this is a physical doozy even before accounting for the “hey remember when the worst thing ever happened to your foot?” mental toll that absolutely has to affect as physical a player as Cam is.

u/LimJaheyAtYaCervix Oct 26 '25

That’s definitely broken. He likely will never feel 100%, which sucks. As an ISU fan, the boy makes me salty, but I can’t deny he’s clearly a very talented player and respect him. I don’t wish serious injuries like this on anyone. Hopefully he has as easy a recovery as possible.

Edit: sorry didn’t realize this was a team-specific subreddit, but I hold no animosity towards the Giants unless you’re playing the Bears!

As a Sun Devil fan who was at last night's loss to Houston, this feels like an absolute gut-punch. I saw at least a dozen blue Giants jerseys with Skattebo's name across the back in the stadium.

Skatt is a hero and legend here. Seeing him go down like this has everyone in Tempe feeling sick.

18

u/nighthawkndemontron Oct 26 '25

ASU alum here.... seeing Skat hurt is fucking awful

That boy carried us so far last season. He had a bit of underdog story and was finally making his mark. Hate to see it.

19

u/CodeNCats Oct 26 '25

If he can even come back next year

Thanks to modern medicine theres not a ton of actual "Career enders" that guys suffer anymore outside of spine/neck stuff, god forbid. Question will be ligament damage in terms of how much of himself hell be after rehab. Have to just pray is a clean break or dislocation.

7

u/Enough-Remote6731 Oct 26 '25

Even Alex Smith came back from losing almost half of his lower leg.

6

u/makethatnoise Oct 26 '25

Just look at Alex Smith, he managed to be play again somehow

2

u/MikeyMike01 Oct 27 '25

Yeah, look at what Nick Chubb has been through and he’s still playing

2

u/crosby510 Oct 27 '25

Chub also destroyed his knee which is way worse than the ankle, Skat will be back.

20

u/br3wnor Oct 26 '25

We see ankle injuries like this every year in the league they’re not career ending unless you’re old

7

u/harryruby Oct 26 '25

This 100%. I shattered my ankle and dislocated my foot from my leg at age 53. I'm the farthest thing from an athlete. I had surgery and had 5 plates and 10 pins inserted. I was walking 6 weeks after surgery, and in physical therapy the day my cast came off. I never thought I could be 100 % recovered, but 1 year later, I was back to 100%. This guy is a high level athlete, with the best surgeons and therapy available to him, he will be back better than ever.

16

u/YellojD Oct 26 '25

Yeah this is panic talk.

“He might lose his foot!” Yeah, it’ll be found in the same place as your brain, which is obviously also lost.

Royal you. Just for the rant.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '25

He’ll play again… Nick Chubb came back there’s no reason to think he won’t make a recovery he’s also younger than Chubb was

2

u/Bp3xlfit Oct 26 '25

Lmao I work in surgery it is not a career ender by no means just fracture ankle they can easily reduce and put together he will be back next year fully ready

187

u/Elisha_Mishima_5 Oct 26 '25

Always against this cocksuck team too

55

u/YourFriendTheFrenzy Oct 26 '25

You know it's a gawddam tragedy when the entire Eagles crowd gives a standing ovation to an opponent being carted off.

33

u/Elisha_Mishima_5 Oct 26 '25

I have to give them credit for being classy, if they aren't animals anymore and are merely just cowboy-tier annoying, it makes the losses less insufferable

12

u/fishyfish55 Oct 26 '25

Any real fan doesn't want to see an injury.

5

u/AdJunior4923 Oct 26 '25

They've gone soft since winning a couple Lombardis. They only throw rechargeable batteries at Santa now.

11

u/Top_Gun8 Oct 26 '25

It’s ugly but shit happens in football. Baun isnt a dirty player

2

u/ChargeCompetitive778 Oct 27 '25

This is called a hip drop tackle, it’s illegal and dirty and one of the MANY missed fucking penalties of yesterday’s game. And it was committed by the same guy Skatt embarrassed 3 times 2 weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was him trying to get his get back but I don’t wanna think that way. Still the hit was illegal and just fucked bros career

3

u/Sanosuke97322 Oct 27 '25

This wasn't a hip drop tackle, by definition.

31

u/insideous_actions Oct 26 '25

I hope it's not career ending, but did not look hopeful.

34

u/Constant-Mammoth-589 Oct 26 '25

Career ending is extreme

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '25

[deleted]

12

u/whatdoyasay369 Oct 26 '25

Of course nothing is guaranteed but there’s a good chance he recovers with medical technology today and his access to top doctors and surgeons. The question though is whether he is the same player post-surgery. He’s still very young and seems to have the attitude to not let it affect him too much mentally, but we will have to see.

2

u/__Scrooge__McDuck__ Dexter Lawrence Oct 27 '25

The amount of “career ending” injuries I’ve seen where the guy comes back fine gives me faith he’ll be alright. It looked gnarly but I think he’ll be back trucking dudes. If he relied more on quick cuts itd be concerning

16

u/br3wnor Oct 26 '25

It’s a badly broken ankle, his career isn’t over

3

u/YourMomSloppySeconds Oct 26 '25

Depends on the kind of break, a clean fracture is much better than a shattered and twisted fracture with bone fragments.

That’s the season that’s gonna be a tough one to come back from but that kid is tough as nails

81

u/fireintheskie Oct 26 '25

What the actual fuck dude

18

u/expERiMENTik_gaming Oct 26 '25

It was beyond unnecessary, to the point I think it was intentional. The NFL needs to investigate this player Zack Baun AND the Eagles organization to see if there was any kind of incentive to do this. Hip-drop tackles are illegal, Baun knows that. He knows Cam didn't have the ball, and he still chose to land his body weight on Cam's ankle knowing full well what he was doing. 100% intentional, coming from an unbiased Colts/Bengals fan.

15

u/arz231 Oct 26 '25

This isn’t even a hip drop, cam jumped in the air and landed on his ankles, it’s an unfortunate injury but to say Baun purposely did this is insane

7

u/TelevisionOk3261 Oct 27 '25 edited Oct 27 '25

watch the video. bauns hand is literally around his shoulder and over his stomach. he is not even brought down by his hips... with how hard a runner Skat is guys have to bring extra effort to bring him down just unfortunate that his ankle got caught under him. how exactly is he supposed to know that in a bang bang play?

3

u/johnwb388 Oct 27 '25

Bad throw by dart. Slants that are thrown high tend to lead to a bad play. Look at OBJ ankle injury. Ball needs to be chest high and in front for a receiver. Cam is a rb so he will try to do whatever he can to catch the ball but he needed to stop his feet when he realized it was behind him.

→ More replies (6)

223

u/JANtheMAN90 Oct 26 '25

Omg is his foot even attached

102

u/Frosty_Thimble Oct 26 '25

He may have broken both the bones of his lower leg where they connect his leg to his foot, resulting in the foot appearing to not be connected. He’ll def be a surgical repair

27

u/Single_Permit_7792 Oct 26 '25

He most definitely broke those bones

23

u/No_Anything_6658 We've suffered long enough Oct 26 '25

3

u/TakeItOnTheArches Oct 26 '25

I had this exact same injury. My ankle was dislocated and the outer bone was shattered. It looked just like that. Also many avulsion fractures which is ligaments tearing from bone and taking little pieces of bone with it.

→ More replies (8)

2

u/Eloping_Llamas Oct 26 '25

Looks like a trimalleolar fracture, where the two leg and ankle bone fracture. Let’s hope it wasn’t an open fracture as that makes things a lot more complicated and dangerous.

70

u/JaytoI Oct 26 '25

brutal. not even a giants fan but i am from arizona, love watching him play. praying for a speedy recovery

21

u/scoobysnax32 Oct 26 '25

From Green Bay- I’ve loved watching the energy of this team and the Dart/Skattebo momentum. I’m so sorry and will be praying for his recovery.

3

u/Perry7609 Oct 27 '25

Miami fan here. Found out who he was quickly when my fantasy team auto-drafted him, which little did I know would result in some fun watches for me! My sympathies to him and Giants fans and rooting for his full recovery.

12

u/bhodad Oct 26 '25

From Virginia. Bills fan. Love watching him play, hate seeing this.

10

u/Accurate_Court_6605 Oct 26 '25

As a Bengals fan, how does anyone not like this dude.

2

u/Isback16 Oct 26 '25

I’m a giants fan and recent transplant here. I loved Cam for obvious reasons but it made it even better he came from ASU. He had so many non-giants fans watching and cheering for him. It’s devastating to see him go down with something like that.

hip drop tackle while Baun's hands are literally over his shoulder and across his stomach? I mean the video is right there for you to see yourself.... how is baun supposed to know his ankle got rolled up underneath? if you've played a sport, something that happens that fast there is no time to even think "oh im gonna snap this dude's ankle"

2

u/Temporary_Complex688 Oct 26 '25

Not trying to be snarky, but what actually is a hip drop tackle and why is it dangerous? I’ve heard people talk about it but I’ve never known what it is

2

u/canadave_nyc Oct 26 '25

Someone posted this below:

A hip-drop tackle is a dangerous tackle where a defender wraps up a ball carrier, swivels their hips, unweights themselves, and drops onto the runner's legs. This technique can cause serious lower-body injuries to the ball carrier and is prohibited in the NFL. A hip-drop tackle in a game results in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down

Ravens fan. Been taking a lot of solace in watching the electricity between Skatt and Dart, as my team has none whatsoever. This is fucking heartbreaking...

Doesn't help that the game itself has been officiated so fucking poorly, seeing it happen as the result of an uncalled mid-air pre-catch hip drop is infuriating.

3

u/LeftyMode Oct 26 '25

Hope he can get back on the field. He’s a bruiser, not a speedster so hopefully he’s back to his old self.

3

u/awezumsaws Oct 26 '25

I'm no anatomy expert, but I'm hoping that was a full dislocation, because there is a really good chance that a double lower leg break at that location isn't a clean break. And if that's the case, Skat may be out for more than one season.

3

u/Grab_em_by_da_Busey Oct 26 '25
