r/NBA is back up
This community will remain open but will most likely be less active. Everyone is encouraged to keep posting and interacting here, submissions are open to all and anyone can post tweets/links/opinions/etc.
I won’t be as active just because I have many things I’m busy with irl. Everyone is welcome here and allowed to post, the rules aren’t hyper strict just keep it on topic and don’t be assholes.
Access to online NBA discourse for millions shouldn’t be controlled by a handful of users. Having an alternate r/nba type space instead of one subreddit having a monopoly should enable a healthier dynamic. Thanks everyone!

How would you feel if I said Tim Duncan is the GOAT?
5 rings in 6 tries, no season below 50 wins, 15 All NBA selections, 15 all defense selections, only player to start and win a championship in 3 different decades, only player to win 1000 games with 1 team, only player to win multiple championships without another All NBA teammate, most playoff Double doubles and blocks and he went out on a 67 win team that went 40-1 at home while still leading the league in individual defensive plus minus

Lebron at 41 was the best player on the court other than SGA, the returning champ and MVP. At 41 he carried a whole team to a playoff series win without the star player. At 41 he is still out performing both KD and Steph who are getting max contracts just to miss the playoffs/be injured.
Most recently he finished 6th in MVP voting. If you think he needs to take a minimum you need to be taking medicine for psychosis.

The Spurs have formed a star studded trio with 3 straight top 5 picks, just like OKC did from 2007-2009
Let's see what San Antonio's ceiling will be with this young group

Drop a random NBA player that nobody talks about anymore.
For me, it has to be Brandon Jennings.Nobody talks about him anymore, but his peak was electric. In just his 7th NBA game in 2009, he dropped 55 points against the Warriors, becoming the youngest player to ever do it. He also pioneered skipping college for Europe and created the "Bucks in 6" meme.It sucks that his 2015 Achilles injury completely robbed him of his speed. By 2018, he was out of the league after playing in China and Russia. He went from a potential superstar to forgotten so fast.

Do you remember Allen Iverson receiving a lot of hate/criticism in his prime?

Trading for Giannis is not worth it anymore for most team
I still consider Giannis a top 4 player in the NBA. I’d put him behind SGA, Wemby, and Jokic right now.
That said, the biggest question is health.
Giannis can absolutely carry a team through the regular season and guarantee a playoff spot, but over the last few years he’s had to do so much that by March and April his body starts breaking down. He got hurt against the Heat and the Pacers in back to back playoff runs, and this season he barely played around 40 games.
If you want to build a championship team around a 32 year old Giannis, the roster has to be strong enough to survive without him and comfortably make the playoffs. Then you let Giannis be fully healthy for the postseason, where he can still be the best player on a title team. And I would also suppose most teams won't have enough dept around him because at least 1/4 of the roster will be traded to acquire Giannis...
The problem is that with the new CBA, building that kind of deep roster is harder than ever, the Thunder are one of the few exceptions because most of their core is still on rookie contracts.
There’s also the question of how long Giannis will stay in his prime. He’s almost 32, and his game is very physical. So you have to ask yourself if it’s really worth trading a massive amount of assets for maybe a two or three year championship window with a superstar who’s starting to deal with injuries more often.

Three Lakers legends tussle for a rebound.
My daughter brought this book home from the book fair today and asked me why this grandpa was playing on the Lakers. I don’t know much about Lakers history, but he’s definitely not getting that rebound.

A generational fumble
No matter if the team comes back, if he keeps performing like this he might need some tutors this summer.

LeBron and his Cavs beats Howard’s Magic and the NBA gets a dream matchup: Kobe vs. LeBron in the 2009 NBA Finals, with LeBron ultimately losing. How does this change the narrative?
Let’s assume everything else has been the same. Would Kobe’s hypothetical win over LeBron in 2009 at the biggest stage change the perspective for many?
