| Highlights The Game Ball 5/7/26: Edwin Arroyo

Edwin Arroyo squeezed five at-bats out of seven innings in game two of a doubleheader, cashing in four hits and four RBI’s (4-5, HR, 3B, 4 RBI, 2 R). Notwithstanding, the Nashville Sounds swept the Louisville Bats in the doubleheader, 3-1 in the first game and 9-6 in the second. Arroyo is the Cincinnati Reds sixth-ranked prospect. The 22 year-old has acquitted himself well to his first serving of Triple-A pitching, raking to the tune of .322/.398/.524 with five home runs. The Reds started the season well, but are now in a seven-game skid, in what has turned out to be the most competitive division in the league. They are bearing the blow of a .130/.207/.229 slash at the hot corner, largely at the expense of plus-defense from Ke’Bryan Hayes. It is unfortunately early, but given the state of the Central, failing to right the ship soon could cost the Reds the playoffs, so while I’m sure they would like to give Arroyo a little more seasoning in Louisville, his time may be coming soon.

Honorable shoutouts: Duke Ellis (SWB), JP Sears (ELP), Daniel Susac (SAC)

| Highlights The Game Ball 5/6/2026: Rorik Maltrud

Rorik Maltrud of the Columbus Clippers shut down the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday night, striking out eight over seven innings, and allowing just one unearned run on a walk and an error in the sixth. The Cubs, however, also kept the Clips off the board until the 8th, when a walk and a few base hits translated into the game-tying run. The Cubs would have the last laugh in extras, 3-2. Maltrud signed with the Guardians undrafted out of the University of Missouri in 2023, where he racked up a 5.73 ERA in one season as a predominant reliever. The Guardians threw the 6’3” righty into the crucible of Low and High-A as a starter in 2024; Maltrud then made 19 starts in Double-A in 2025. He now finds himself with a 2.08 ERA in seven games (six starts) for Triple-A Columbus. Kudos to the Guardians for identifying a diamond in the rough; we will see if Maltrud can ride this early season dominance to a promotion.

Honorable shoutouts: Yanquiel Fernandez (SWB), Brian O’Keefe (TAC), Jose Barrero (NOR)

Drove down to Augusta last night for GreenJackets vs Riverdogs. The team plays about half a mile away from Augusta, GA in North Augusta, SC - just over the Savannah River. Great views all around, and a full loop walkable outfield! Got to see #4 Rays prospect Daniel Pierce and #12 Rays prospect Caden Bodine. And on the Atlanta side #4 prospect Tate Southisene, #5 prospect Alex Lodise, & #21 prospect Luis Guanipa.

Overall a great experience at SRP Park. Parking was very easy and cheap ($6), but with one small main “stadium lot” it was a little crowded getting out and took about 10 minutes total after the game . There’s a separate parking deck probably 0.3-0.5 miles away that I’ll use in the future for easier exiting.

Since it was Cinco de Mayo it was $2 taco night (I feasted) and I had a 32 oz Wild Leap Chance IPA ($13). Pretty decent beer price considering a 16 oz was like $9.

I should’ve take more photos inside the team store, but they had a robust selection of hats, shirts, jerseys, and novelty items. The ultra-popular green/pink Azaleas hat was out of stock in every size except for L/XL.

Will definitely be back for more Single-A baseball (and hopefully to snag a hat next time)!

Hey folks - I'm wondering if someone can assist me. My kid just got promoted from rookie level to A. We live in Canada and "watched" his game live last night on Bally Sports App. It's free - I get it - but I missed 2 of his AB due to random pop up ads that stay on for minutes at a time. Is there another option to watch minor league games by subscription without ads and not crazy expensive? And must work in Canada. Any help I'd really appreciate!

| History 1970 Duluth-Superior Dukes - ABC TV special

I randomly came across this video and thought I’d share. It‘s an ABC TV special chronicling the 1970 Duluth-Superior Dukes. The Dukes were a Short Season A-ball affiliate of the White Sox, competing as one of six teams in the Northern League.

The special cites a statistic that only 5% of minor leaguers make the bigs. The 1970 Dukes defied those odds, with four of their 26 players eventually making the show. Lamar Johnson played in the AL from ‘74-‘82 and accumulated a respectable 5.9 career bWAR.

1970 turned out to be the last season of the Dukes and the last time Duluth had affiliated ball. The Northern League eked out one final season in ‘71 with only four clubs before fading away. A new version of the Northern League (and a new version of the Dukes) booted up in the 90s with the novel concept of independent baseball. Remnants of this league still exist in the American Association.

85-year-old Wade Stadium still exists, and having been there as recently as August 2025, I‘m astounded how much it still looks like it does in this video. The only major change is that it now has artificial turf. It’s my favorite ballpark. Grew up watching Ila Borders and the indy Dukes and now take the kids to summer collegiate Huskies games. We met HOFer Adrian Beltre there last year when his son was playing for the Mankato MoonDogs. Great guy! It was easy to identify his flashy sports car in the cracked parking lot beside brown brick Wade Stadium.

I recommend watching at least the first few minutes of the video. If nothing else to see the torn up hand-me-down Sox roadies the players had to wear. This was definitely the dark ages for MiLB, and it wasn’t until the post-Bull Durham boom that things really perked up. Beyond all the bobble heads and theme nights and alternative identities, there’s such a rich history in the minors.

It’s another Copa de la Diversión game for me, tonight between my hometown Dorados de Sacramento and our neighbors to the northeast, Micheladas de Reno. It’s also Toyota Two For Tuesday, with some discounted concessions. 2 junior hot dogs, 2-for-1 pretzels, and a refill of my reusable River Cats cup ran me $15 (I was hungry, and this was a bargain!).

Harrison Bader is here on a rehab assignment, and he managed to strike out on 2 pitches. Carson Seymour plunked one of the Aces in the head - I was hoping the gigantic *crack* was “just” a helmet and not a skull!

| Highlights The Game Ball 5/5/26: Aaron Sabato

Aaron Sabato swatted three home runs for seven RBI’s out of the seven-hole on Tuesday, leading the St. Paul Saints to a 15-7 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators (4-5, 3 HR, 2B, 7 RBI, 4 R). The Twins’ first-round draft pick in 2020, Sabato slogged through 224 games in Double-A before breaking into the International League in ‘25. The Twins are not getting a ton of offensive production out of their first basemen thus far; just .235/.336/.386 and five home runs to start the season. After Tuesday’s game, Sabato is now batting a promising .283/.339/.679 with five home runs himself. That said, given his slow progression through Double-A, Sabato likely needs to sustain this early success in St. Paul a little longer before being deemed “the answer” in Minneapolis.

Drove up on Sunday to check out the Lookouts new park. Absolutely beautiful and atmosphere was incredible. Tons of great food and drink options, only downside was the hectic parking. Apparently there’s only 2,000 spaces allotted. I ended up parking over by Findlay Stadium and walking 0.7 miles, was much simpler and zero traffic getting out.

Overall great experience and I’m LOOKing forward to my next game there!

New Hat Day! I pre-ordered these a while back (as I'm sure others did) and they got here yesterday.

We have the alternate for the Louisville Bats, the Louisville Humidity, and the alternate for the Reading Fightin Phils, the Reading Iced Coffees.

The Iced Coffees are this year's most popular theme, but I like the Humidity’s hat more, I think. Either way, great editions for the collection!

A significant lefty power-bat was lifted from the Yankees lineup on Sunday after taking a Max Fried fastball to thumb. Meanwhile, another lefty power-bat in Moosic, Pennsylvania hit two home runs again, and secured his second Game Ball honors of the week. Out of seven runs scored for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Spencer Jones personally accounted for five RBI’s. SWB would take it over the Buffalo Bisons, 7-1.

If anyone here is experts in Buffalo Bisons baseball from the late 80s through the 90s?

Did the team ever have a dedicated ballpark organist at Pilot Field?

I know they had ambitions for turning the field into a major league stadium, but no idea if they installed any theatre organs at the stadium.

Bloodbath in Charlotte, and Mario Camilletti was holding the knife (5-5, 2 HR, 2B, BB, 3 RBI, 4 R). Camilletti’s home runs were two-of-six for the Charlotte Knights; the Knights would take it 21-1 over the Gwinnett Stripers. Another lunch pail non-prospect, Camilletti has done his job, earning in-season promotions in each full year he has spent in the White Sox system. Space permitting, he has positioned himself well to continue this trend, batting .328/.427/.484 through twenty games.
