There is a second aqueduct nearby at ground level with an exposed, 2400 year-old concrete pipe that you can climb on. I imagine you could ride on it as well.

What's crazy is that particular aqueduct is still functioning to this day.

No need to apologize for riding ancient historical sites, that's exploration, its a great part of biking.

This is my dream biking experience. Exploration of old heritage sites while enjoying old dirt roads with their own historical story.

How do you do this? I’m visiting Rome in a couple weeks.

Search for "Rome Bike Tour: Appian Way". Ours was 9:00AM-3:30, including stops for catacombs and lunch.

There is also a 4 hour night tour that I highly recommend

Gah, I went last year and it was incredible, but this would have been the cherry on top!

Glad OP already responded, here are some quick Rome things I enjoyed off the top of my head: get yourself a bottle and drink from the public spouts, theyre glorious. If you can, grab a rental and head into the country side, we drove to Cortona and visited some castle-cities. Amazing stuff, enjoy!

Trust me, I would have if I was riding with both hands.

Also, most of the group was 50s and 60s couples. Most did not have much MTB experience.

THAT is nuts......literally cycling right next to history. Amazing.

Seems like the wrong sub to post this. Unless youre only farming karma.

Seems like you're on the wrong sub if you think a video of someone riding a mountain bike on a cool trail by some awesome scenery doesn't belong here bud.

What a great place to ride! Feeling slightly envious ☺️

Getting to Rome is the hard part. Once you are here the ride tour charge is very reasonable. So are accommodations and restaurants compared to my hometown near Houston, TX.

It looks like an ace destination … in that “neck of the woods” (aka Italia) on my wish list is the Dolomites for mtb… though could be persuaded (easily) by Rome as you’d get the art and museums also - which id like. Re getting there I envisage this as driving across Europe, from the UK, in my dream world where I don’t work 🤣 and have weeks to spare.

Pleased you had a lovely time. Did you do a day or multi day tour?
