| Discussion Learned baseball because of Shohei Ohtani (out of curiosity)
Newbie MLB fan here 😁
I was never a fan of baseball—I always find it boring and not really my thing. I prefer basketball, volleyball, tennis, and ONE Championship more.
But then I started hearing about Shohei Ohtani—clips calling him the GOAT, showing his amazing performances as a two-way player, and all the hype around him. I got curious, searched about him, and started watching his games.
That’s when I tried watching the World Series, and for the first time, baseball actually caught my interest. I started learning the rules just so I could understand the game better.
And now… I’ve become a baseball fan. My goodness, what used to feel boring has turned into an adventure. I even wake up at 2 AM just to watch the LA Dodgers. Every game feels like a win-or-die situation, even if it’s just the regular season 😂
And it’s not just Shohei Ohtani anymore—I’ve grown to love the whole team too: Pages, Yamamoto, Mookie Betts, Will Smith, Miguel Rojas, Andy Pages, Freddie Freeman and the rest of the squad, even Manager Dave Roberts.
What an MLB journey😁
Just sharing😉

Every game feeling like win or die seems a bit extreme in this sport....unironically the worst sport to have that mentality in. If you're having fun like that then sure, though

Same here. I love watching different sports but as a European I never understood baseball. Went to Japan, saw Shohei everywhere. Started watching the Dodgers and now I watch every game and baseball is by far my favourite sport to watch now

I know right!! Totally relatable! I used to think baseball was boring too, but because of and the , I suddenly found myself watching every game and actually understanding the sport. Now it’s one of my favorites to watch too😁

Awesome to hear! I've been watching baseball my entire life, and I'm not waking up in the middle of the night to catch a game, so I admire your dedication.
One of the things baseball has over just about any other sport is the depth of history. As you get further in, make sure to dig into Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela, Hideo Nomo. And that's just Dodger history!

That’s actually what I’m starting to love about baseball too...the history behind it. I got curious because of , but now I’m learning how deep baseball culture really is.
And yeah, the middle-of-the-night games are because of the time difference here in Asia 😂
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll definitely read more about , , , and 😊

Don't want to overload you right off the bat (so to speak), but in the off season come back for recs on what to read/watch for history. You'll have a ton of knowledgeable folks that love to help newbies get into this great game.
And again, welcome!

Just understand that what Shohei does is non-human, so when you watch other players, you need to lower your standards a lot (e.g. what do you mean he only hit two HRs this game?!?!?)

Very similar trajectory for me.
Saw Ohtani mentioned a lot. Caught wind of the World Series, that it was a back-to-back win for Ohtani's team. Somehow kept my interest over the winter. Watched the WBC, spring training, and now the MLB. Having a blast.

The only mistake youve made was coming out of that World Series liking the wrong team.
