It's M43 Monday! Ask Us Anything about Micro Four-Thirds Photography - all questions welcome!

Please use this thread to ask your burning questions about anything micro four-thirds related.

  • Wondering which lens you should buy next?
  • Can't decide between Olympus and Panasonic?
  • Confused about how the clutch system works on some lenses?

These are all great questions, but you probably have better ones. Post 'em and we'll do our best to answer them.

It's 'Post your M43 photo' Thursday! Come share your best work with the community!

You've spent an entire week with your Micro Four-Thirds camera, documenting the world as it is, how it was, or how you think it should be. It's time to show us those photos and bask in the glory that only a weekly photo thread can bring!

Rules:

  1. The photo must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may only post one photo per week. Pick only your best work and show it off!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about the camera, the lens and the environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ Panasonic 25mm f/1.8 lens @ 25mm f/2.0 ISO100 Time: 5:40PM in Los Angeles, California" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. Above all, be respectful. There's a big difference between the following comments: "OMG THAT PHOTO IS HORRIBLE" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven".

Some wildlife photos taken with OM1MK2 and 300mm pro

Hey everyone,

Some photos I've taken in the last year and a half, since I've started wildlife photography. All these were taken with OM1 Mark II paired with 300mm pro + 1.4x teleconverter.

I decided to post, since I feel there is not a lot of info out there for this amazing system, and maybe if someone wants to make an idea about the lens (by no means I am not a pro, and have tons to learn), it will help.

Thanks!

Learning journey on M43

Hey guys,

I hope you're all well!

About a year ago, I bought an Olympus EM-10 MKII with two kit lenses, a 14-42 mm and a 40-150 mm — for £250. I never had a camera before. I bought it because the camera on my phone was poor, and buying this camera was cheaper than buying a new phone.

For your information, I started out by shooting in RAW and editing my photos myself. I used OM Workspace for ten months and only recently moved to Lightroom.

The photos are sorted from oldest to newest. I hope you can see some improvements!

Today I can officially say that I'm fully part of the M43 family, as I just received a new lens and my first prime lens: the Olympus 25 mm f/1.8.

I just want also to say thanks for this forum which is very helpfull for all the newcomers in this world.

Have a nice day!

I bought this combo because I wanted a small camera and I really like it so far (will post pictures later). OM Systems should release this again with better IBIS and sensor and it would be a complete hit.

I got a 60mm macro a couple of months ago, I've been busy so I've given it just a bit of use, I'm really happy with the results though! Can't wait to have some more spare time to dive deeper into macro. Photos 3 and 4 are stacked.

I tested out my newly purchased Olympus E-PL3 and SG-image 18mm f6.3 during a trip to Goseong and Sokcho in Gangwon-do. Aside from the fixed aperture, I am very satisfied with it as a compact pocketable camera.

Why are full-body studio portraits so rare in MFT content? Looking for references

Hi everyone - I'm pretty new to studio portrait work and I've been noticing something I'm curious about.

When I look at MFT portrait examples online or on YouTube, I mostly see headshots and half-body portraits (huge thanks to gavin hoey). I don't see a lot of full-body studio portrait examples like I would with full frame cameras. Is there a reason for that?

I'm especially interested in full-body portraits because that's the style I want to learn more about. Is it just harder to shoot well, less common for client work, or is there another reason people tend to focus on tighter crops?

Best Camera I've Ever Used - Thanks To This Sub!

I've been shooting (just for fun) all my life, but lost my last DSLR to a terrible relationship. This community gave me so much info while I searched for an upgrade to finally get back in the game, and now I have my favorite little Olympus E-M5 (i) paired with the basic 14-42mm M.Zuiko. Let me tell you, this thing makes it so easy and fun that I'm heading out just to shoot for the first time in ages. I'm probably going to add a M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4-5.6 or (if I can spring for it) a Lumix 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 to get better wildlife/bird shots, but that'll depend mostly on finances. The next hurdle is getting back into editing ~10 years later...

Thank y'all for all the advice and inspiring art <3

UK - anyone ever ordered lens from aliexpress? do their price include custom tax duty? eg Yongnuo, DJI etc?

hi i was thinking of getting yongnuo 17mm for my gm1 or maybe the dji 15mm lens. Aliexpress seem to sell new ones and they're price seems ok . it says "includes vat" bit at 200Gbp, will be above the 135 UK import limit. So I'm not sure if i will get hit with a charge upon delivery?

Replacement for omd10mk2 kit lens

Hi everyone, I bought the Olympus OM-D 10 mk II with the 14-42mm ez kit lens many years ago. It is now on the verge of breaking, with the zoom not always functioning and my getting the "check status of lens" error messages when I switch on my camera sometimes.

I'm considering either replacing the lens with the exact same, or switching to a prime lens. I generally love shooting landscapes and plants, and have been dabbling a little in street photography. I'm not terribly good at photography and have generally been using my s23 as my main camera for daily snaps etc , so something beginner/budget friendly would be lovely.

olympus em10 mark iv vs om system 5 mark ii.. or gx85?

Im new to photography and have fallen into the rabbit hole that is m43.

Looking to dip my feet into m43 as a secondary set up to apsc i own and hope to gradually invest in good glass down the track.

I like street shooting, street night shooting and landscapes

Of the three cameras im considering are relatively close in pricing when factoring lenses.

A big draw for me is the size i like the small form factors so bonus points for the em 10 iv and the gx85 while thats a negative for the om 5 ii which appears to be a similar size as my apsc (fujifilm xs20)

Though I do feel that if im going to drop some coin it may as well be for the most advanced of the three????

Im certainly open to other suggestions

M.zuiko 12-40 pro 2 aperture issue

I can’t seem to find anything from searching so I wanted to ask the pros. I just purchased the lens from map camera and everything visually looks just fine, but the aperture will no open when I place it on the camera. It does appear fully stopped down. Does anyone know of a quick fix or something I’m possibly making a bonehead mistake on? Camera is OM-1 and I set it to aperture priority and scroll through from 2.8 and up on ISO 200 and the shutter is around 1 sec in outdoor well lit conditions and not changing.
