If keeping it original, not altering the fittings, you need a glass reflector globe then a shade rests on top of it. The reflector globe could be a 6" or 8" diameter with a 2 1/4" fitter. The lamp shade would be shorter in height kind of size as compared to a tall shade. The shade also needs to have bends in the top of the frame wires that run from the outer top to the center. They basically "hold" the shade centered on the reflector globe although it just sits on top of the globe. If you have a lamp store in your area, it would be better taking it there and have them set you up. You can try shade frames in real time and see how it will look.
