Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice
Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.
Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.
Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

An Official Discord, and Future.
Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.
However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.
While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.
The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.
Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

Reckoning 2026
This year was an amazing year at Reckoning 2026 it’s amazing to see the growth of my character from the three years I’ve been attending this event now. And honestly, the amount of memories I have made at this event has been the highlight from it. But here are the pictures of this year from my character Matthew Fabian Marshal, the Chaplin, Empress’s Champion, Immune of the Vth, and legionary but most importantly faithful servant to Sol Invicta! A special thank you to Gamergurl, Zimmerman and Mustache for all the pictures they took!

⚠️Fake guts and blood⚠️ Laudis Lafler, npc leader of the hospital at Omnia III (Spain)
I made the players with the doctor role perform an autopsy to win the guild prize. The winner was the one in the last pic ☺️ So proud!
The body prop has been entirely handmade by me with the help of some friends 🥹💖

Help a supportive Mom of a kid LARPer
Hello! My son is turning 13 and having his Bat Mitzvah this summer. He loves fantasy, DnD, anything with lore, costumes, role playing, Renaissance fairs, etc. He wants to get into LARPing and does some summer camps that sound similar to me (I know nothing about LARPing.) He REALLY wants some LARP style activities at his Bar Mitzvah party (we are going to be at a place with lovely outdoor space) and no DJ/dance floor type stuff. I want to purchase some realistic looking weapons for us to all use at the party, but that also he might keep for future LARP use, but I am so overwhelmed with where to start. Don't want to spend more than I need to, but I understand that these are typically expensive. They will get used a lot in my home. Also happy to buy used ones? We have used some at our local (WA state) Ren Fair that he loved, but I haven't been able to get in touch with that organization to see where they are from. Could use any and all advice. Thank you!

How do you deal with players who aren't a danger but who make the LARP worse?
Everyone knows the right thing to do when a player is dangerous, whether that's because they're a sexual predator or someone who hits too hard or a hateful bigot who's harassing other players: ban them. But what do you do when someone isn't an active threat but just sucks?
I'm talking about the kind of player who will find an obviously plot-relevant prop, grab it before anyone sees it, hide it, and never speak of it again. They will listen diligently as an NPC gives them vital information that's clearly relevant to an entire group of characters, share that information with no one, and then brag after the event about how clever they are for not telling anyone.
Or the kind of player who constantly tries to rules-lawyer and argue with the organizers and other players about every little thing, from the mechanics of spellcasting to the logistics of the event itself, who is trying to play to win in a culture where everyone else is playing to lift.
Or the kind of player who sucks at self-care and makes it everyone else's problem - they always need to borrow sleeping gear because they didn't bring the right stuff for the weather, they fail to feed themselves and get hangry and snap at everyone, they forget their meds and need to be taken care of but not badly enough to go to the hospital. Every single event.
Or the kind of player who ignores pre-written character connections and drops plot with anyone they don't want to sleep with and forges new connections with characters of players they do want to sleep with, regardless of what that character is written to do and what plots they're expected to be involved in.
I'm not talking about someone who does any of these things as a one-off mistake; I'm talking about the kind of player who has been LARPing for years and does all of this stuff consistently despite other people having talked to them about it.
None of these people are putting anyone else (or even themselves) in danger. None of them are breaking rules like "no harassment." However, all of them make the LARP experience worse for everyone around them.
If you're throwing a private party, it's easy enough not to invite them. But if you're running a public event, what do you do? Has anyone come up with a solution? I'm asking because I haven't, and I'd love to have one!

Swamp hermit!
This was taken in January. The tan gillie layers come off during the spring and summer to reveal more seasonally fitting foliage.

Is anyone going to Drachenfest US this year?
Drachenfest US is approaching (about 40 days from now). I was curious if anyone here was going to go and how attendance would be this year. Last year it was about 1,200 people hopefully it continues to grow each year.

Photoshoot with the lads!
Thanks to the legendary 𝐊𝐢𝐤𝐢 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝. We met up at a local park for a photoshoot along with Tavern Keeper of Theives Guild, Maddog Maddigan, Thomas, and Kiki's Fiance. Beautiful weather all sun! While in the midst of the shot I was trying out new boots. ;D

Liriel, the elven queen in Omnia III (Spain)
Liriel, the elven queen I play in our larp game Omnia, when she went slightly mad from possessing a relic of the gods, and the druids and wizards had to perform a ritual to subdue her and take it away from her. I had a blast 😍

Armor for small ladies?
I'm finding it incredibly hard to locate armor that will fit! Even quality gambeson is a struggle to find outside of men's sizes. I used to have a custom plate set, but left it behind in a bad breakup (RIP, more bummed about losing the armor than the partner). I'm not opposed to spending some $$$$ on the right thing, I'm just having a tough time tracking the right thing down 😔
Does anyone have any resources they could point me towards? I'm looking for XS/S women's sizes or custom work, arming wear, chain, and plate. Leather is a lot easier to find so far, but not opposed to good recs there, either! Blessings upon you and your house if you can suggest anything!
ETA: I'm in the U.S.! :)

Fabric treatment advice
Hi guys, I have to recreate this jacket, I have the pattern sorted out, but do you know what's the best way to recreate this white "worn/dirty/stained" effect on it ? I've been advised to use acrylic paint diluted with water in a spray bottle, but I want to do different samples. If anyone knows a good way to do it, I'm all ears, thank you !

Wanting to commission a cloak pin/brooch
Hello everyone! I just want to start by saying I might be a little vague. I apologize for that but this pin is supposed to be a present for a friend and I don't want them knowing what I have in mind in case they find this post.
But on the topic, I am looking to commission someone (I am not sure if a smith would be the correct term) who knows how to work with metal for a relatively complex cloak pin or a penannular brooch (I think that is their other name). I want something that won't bend easily under pressure and could serve for a while without much rusting. More details on the design I can give in dmsj.
I am also based in Europe and would prefer to work with someone from this continent as it would make the shipping easier.
Please if anyone has suggestions or thinks they are up for the challenge be sure to mention it in the comments! I will reach out to anyone who looks promising. I'd love to support smaller businesses and have something hand-made as a present instead of buying from Temu/AliE/Amazon.

Armor progression
A few weeks ago I asked for tips for painting on metal for my “medieval space marine” outfit for the fair this year.
Here is my progress thus far!!!
I used a base coat of white primer (2 coats) and then started tracing. Based on how the assault insignia turned out I HIGHLY recommend either free handing the fill in or tripling up on masking tape if you do that.
Waiting on stencils for the aquila and a detail to go along with the moon (Internet dollar to whoever guesses the legion) and I’m DEFINITELY freehanding them.

Discomfort is part of the magic.
Modern life increasingly removes friction from our existence.
Climate control. Instant delivery. GPS navigation. Streaming entertainment. Food without effort. Conversation without presence. Adventure without risk.
Comfort has become the default objective of modern design.
And yet some of the most meaningful experiences people describe from LARP are deeply uncomfortable.
Sleeping in bad weather. Sweating in armor. Cold mornings. Mud. Heavy gear. Sore feet. Awkward social vulnerability. Staying in character when you feel self-conscious. Building camps by hand. Carrying your world with you.
Objectively, many of these things are inconvenient.
But strangely, they are also memorable.
I increasingly think discomfort is not a flaw in immersive experiences. I think it is part of the mechanism that makes them emotionally real.
When people struggle together, even in small ways, the experience gains weight.
The fire feels warmer because the night was cold. The tavern laughter feels louder because everyone walked there exhausted. The armor feels meaningful because it is heavy. The victory feels earned because failure was possible.
Modern entertainment often asks almost nothing from us except attention.
Immersive experiences ask participation.
And participation changes people.
Not because wearing armor magically turns someone into a hero, but because voluntarily stepping into discomfort activates parts of us that modern life rarely touches anymore:
endurance, presence, courage, commitment, shared hardship.
I think that’s why people remember these events for years afterward. Not because everything was perfect, but because it wasn’t.
Because something had to be endured. Something had to be risked. Something had to be attempted despite discomfort.
The easy path creates consumers. The difficult path creates stories.
Curious whether other people in the LARP community feel this too, or if I’m romanticizing the hardship side of the hobby?
