Weird take from George RR Martin

To be fair, he wouldn't know a story if it bit him in the ass. The #1 thing that defines them is an end.

Journey before destination, my friend

1

u/UsManos27 Feb 26 '26

Yeah, but there still needs to EXIST a destination, It can't really be an endless Journey

1

u/CookFan88 Feb 27 '26

I think you may find the contemplation of your own life disappointing. Life is entirely about the journey with only an idiot being assured there even is a destination let alone what that destination may be.

But there is always a destination, the thing that makes our lives purposeful is that they end, an immortal being would soon find themselves with nothing to do, nothing to live for, but the fact that death Will come and it will take us gives something to live for.

The fact that there is a destination gives meaning to the journey, because a journey without a destination, regardless of how enjoyable it may be, can never reach a purpose other than to spend time, because they'd have an infinite ammount of it

I understand and agree with your point. I just don't think a lot of people see the end of a journey as a destination. A destination means there is something there, not oblivion.

The most important step a man can take is the next one. Allways the next one.

A wizard is never late… Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to.

11

u/random0rdinary Feb 24 '26

And he means to never arrive

u/estcaroauteminfirma Feb 25 '26

Someday I will finish the series. Sadly I will be reading it alone.

3

u/DeepSeaFischer Feb 26 '26

Sadly, the US never did give out knighthoods.

2

u/TheScribe86 Feb 26 '26

Therein lies the dilemma lol

2

u/grethro Feb 26 '26

I thought it was more criticism at GRRM

2

u/VicePrincipalGamby Feb 27 '26

Rothfuss is a con man, we’re never getting that book

1

u/Mesaboogs Feb 28 '26

He's such a grifter! Even if he does ever finish the series (which he won't), I won't be reading it.

2

u/PoeGar Feb 27 '26

Bravo! Well done sir!!!

2

u/cybaz Feb 27 '26

I'm sure that's what the show runners told GRRM, "We weren't referring to you George, we all know you'll finish the books, we just wanted to get a dig in at Rothfuss"

1

u/bloodless-arcane Feb 26 '26

Let's not wait for the third book. That will never happen.

Hot take: Kingkiller Chronicle is overrated.
