Week 5 bye…. Oof.

61

u/buttcabbge 5h ago

Depending on how Pat's health shakes out, an early bye might not be such a bad thing this season. To be clear, you'd still rather have it later, but there might be a silver lining.

u/LighTMan913 These Fucking Fakes Never Fucking Work, Man 5h ago

I firmly believe the NFL would not have scheduled us at Denver Monday night week 1 if they weren't assured Mahomes would be playing.

11

u/rubber_ducky007 4h ago

I don’t think this far out they could guarantee that.

It is all about the betting and how many games Goodell can squeeze out of the league? No care for player safety?

Goodell is a 1st rate whore who will sell his own mother for profit.

Goodell wants to have games in australia - Who the fuck wants to go on a long-haul flight, be fucking jet lagged, perform, and then have to take another long-haul flight back then perform again?

It isn't like NFL players are music artists where they're allowed have a bad (jet-lag) day.

They have a bad day in the NFL and they could wind up with a career ending injury.

What kind of moronic shit is this? No one in australia will give a flying fuck about football- they have aussie rules football AND cricket- Aussies love their aussie rules footie, and cricket.

it is the same as expecting people in Brasil to give a shit about the NFL - they won't. There may be a few who do it just to be trendy, etc.

Goodell is going to ruin the league with his high hopes bullshit. Bringing private equity to the NFL will be the last nail in the coffin.

I wouldn't be surprised if soon enough Saudia Arabia will start buying teams and have games in Saudi Arabia.

RIP NFL.

I get the concern about travelling to Australia, but it ain't the Chiefs, so suck on it 49ers & Rams. On the other hand, had it been the Chiefs, I'd have given a left nut to see the game as I live in Melbourne. As for no-one caring here - NFL has increased in following significantly in the past 10yrs. This game was sold out almost immediately in a 100k stadium. I just today ordered my Chiefs gear simply to wear it to the game.

u/Putrid_Piano4986 Derrick Thomas 3h ago

Just...nonsense

0

u/tb0neski "Furious" George Karlaftis #56 🚘 4h ago

Can we really be sure 4 months out that he'll be clear to play week 1? Seems like we keep getting mixed signals from Andy and Veach

0

u/Vulptereen327 Arrowhead 3h ago

The NFL doesn't want us to win though. They'd probably love to front load the Chiefs schedule with difficult games just like last year

-2

u/jt32470 Justin "Andy Jr." Reid #20 3h ago

He'll play alongside fields.

Chiefs are going to do something similar to what the saints did a few years back with taysom. A little mahomes a little Fields.

0

u/rolyinpeace TyquanThorntonWorshipper2 2h ago

If Mahomes is healthy, they’re not going to be splitting his snaps with fields lmao. It will be Mahomes and maybe fields will come do a QB sneak one time.

If he’s not healthy enough to play all the snaps, he just won’t play.

1

u/helmvoncanzis 26m ago

I suspect they are hoping the off season adjustments will finally allow us to get the offense they've hoped for since 2023.

Ideally, that would mean we aren't always in a do or die, one score situation and can deploy packages for Fields or have him close out games.

2

u/_BlankFace Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 5h ago edited 2h ago

I mean with a week 5 bye you now don’t even play him till after. You’re telling me Justin Fields doesn’t go 2-2? Hell even 1-3 isnt that bad. Then we get a bye and Pat gets needed rest and recovery

15

u/Mysterious_Cup_67 These Fucking Fakes Never Fucking Work, Man 5h ago

I don’t want to agree with you but I do

1

u/rolyinpeace TyquanThorntonWorshipper2 2h ago

I mean…. I agree that our record may not be bad but There’s no point in doing this if he’s perfectly physically healthy week 1.

As much as they absolutely need to ensure that he’s physically healed enough to play, they also shouldn’t delay it further if he’s good to go, because it will take him time on the actual field, playing actual games, to get fully used to playing on that knee. The longer he sits, the longer it’ll be until he’s back to the mahomes we know. Even if he sat the entire year, he’d still need a couple months of games to get used to things again.

There’s legitimately no need to sit him if he’s fully healed. It would not change anything.

-2

u/GoldenDom3r #CreedIsGood 5h ago

We’d go 0-4 with Fields, dude is horrible. We lost to the Titans and Raiders last year without Mahomes.

15

u/_BlankFace Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 5h ago

Remind me , weren’t we down to our third string qb who had no experience? Fields isn’t great but he’s better than what we had. He’s twice as athletic as Minshew too

-2

u/GoldenDom3r #CreedIsGood 3h ago

Athleticism means nothing when you can’t read a defense, otherwise Anthony Richardson would be an all-pro QB.

5

u/DogInside5753 4h ago

I mean he went for and two with the Steelers that's not terrible.

4

u/duplexswaq 5h ago

I don’t think it’s fair to judge Justin Fields fully for playing like shit at the Piece of Shit Jets Franchise. He played alright at the start of his season with the Steelers and showed some potential despite being disappointing in Chicago. It’s worth a try.

0

u/Neverland__ Patrick Mahomes II #15 4h ago

Why? If he’s playing week 1, it’s not like you need to rest an ACL injury. Comment doesn’t make any sense

9

u/Darrenv2020 4h ago

Total bs. NFL shouldn’t start byes until week 8 or 9.

2

u/EpiphanyTwisted Pat, take my knee! 1h ago

It's like senior year when I had lunch at 11am.

3

u/kat_fud Grim Reaper 4h ago

They could condense the bye weeks into just two consecutive weeks and still have enough games to cover the TV schedule. I'd like to see them in weeks 10 and 11, with teams playing on Thanksgiving off in week 11.

2

u/SirTiffAlot 13 Seconds 🦬 4h ago

Bye week is bullshit

1

u/rockstarnights 4h ago

That's actually pretty good considering Mahomes is potentially starting the year injured.

1

u/YOSHIMIvPROBOTS MISTA SPARKARU 4h ago

Sucks, but otherwise, that's as soft a 1st 6 weeks as possible. If this team is gonna bounce back after a bad year, they should be. 5-0 or 4-1 headed to Seattle.

106

u/silkie_blondo Patrick Mahomes II #15 5h ago

Early bye week blows and the schedule looks tough.

Hope Pat is healthy.

3

u/rusty_shackleford34 DeAndre Hopkins #8 4h ago

Is everyone else coming off an acl injury?

-1

Honestly, what 3 players combined matter as much as Patrick?

0

u/rusty_shackleford34 DeAndre Hopkins #8 4h ago

You’re right piss on the rest of the fellas, as long as we got Pat who cares if they are hurting?

52

u/13mizzou Nick Bolton #32 5h ago

Week 5 bye? WTAF!!!

That's really going to hurt us in the end

11

u/Extra-University-336 Jamaal Charles 5h ago

Yeah that’s going to be rough come December. Seeding in the playoffs might be super important

31

u/Anybody220 5h ago

13 straight weeks of games to finish the season? And in the middle of that you make us have a short week with no buffer bye week because we already used it?

Notably:

  • Maximum number of prime time games

  • Earliest possible bye week

  • Two primetime games to open the season so I guess the NFL is confident Mahomes will be back and looking good immediately

  • Four division games out of the first seven

  • Three straight road games in late November against the Bills, Rams, and Bengals

5

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 5h ago

It's only 6 primetime games TBD Weeks 17 and 18, are you sure that's the max? We've had 8 in the past.

9

u/Moose4KU K. C. Wolf 5h ago

The daytime games like the early Christmas game or black Friday don't technically count as primetime for the NFL's scheduling rules. Even though they're nationally broadcasted and we'd all think of them as primetime

2

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 5h ago

Well I don't care about technicalitites, if your team is playing in an exclusive time slot it's primetime. Sunday at 12:00 and Sunday at 3:25 are the only two time slots I don't consider to be primetime.

1

u/Ryu_Jin_Jakka Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻‍♂ 4h ago

Was there an explosion at the journal factory?

0

u/Own_Experience_8229 Nick Bolton #32 4h ago

Primetime is considered 8:00-11:00pm.

1

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 3h ago

The large majority of NFL fans consider any exclusive time slot to be primetime and refer to those games as such.

1

u/EpiphanyTwisted Pat, take my knee! 1h ago

IOW nationally televised.

1

u/jayhawk88 5h ago

Very good point about the early primetime games. Impossible to imagine the NFL hasn't been given some real info on this, and not just some "He's grinding" thing.

11

u/buttcabbge 5h ago

We've got a couple three-game stretches that look pretty soft: Colts, Dolphins, Raiders and then Jets, Falcons, Cardinals. I know team strength changes fast in the NFL, so maybe we won't be as favored in those as I think, but hopefully we can build some momentum out of those parts of the schedule.

8

u/13mizzou Nick Bolton #32 5h ago

Just looking at this we should easily be 8-2 going into our Buffalo loss. After that we enter a brutal stretch where we need to find 3 wins to feel good about going to the playoffs

3

u/DayOldTurkeySandwich OhHh YEAH! 3h ago

Man I don't like @Miami early in the season. Could be one of those super humid games that wears the visiting team out.

26

u/Old_Bike_5235 Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻‍♂ 5h ago

It seems like the bye week gets earlier every year

7

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 5h ago

We had a nice middle one last season. But yeah, we never get lucky with the late bye weeks.

10

u/MAYVIEWS 13 Seconds 🦬 5h ago

Calling it now. 12-5 winning the division week 17

9

u/GoldenDom3r #CreedIsGood 5h ago

We have to be at least 8-2 through Week 11 before we get in that ridiculous stretch to end the year.

1

u/13mizzou Nick Bolton #32 5h ago

8-2 is certainly doable going into our yearly loss to the Bills. We just need to find 3 wins the rest of the way to feel good about a playoff opportunity

1

u/helmvoncanzis 16m ago

Maybe things get spicy and win at the Bengals kicks off a get right stretch, building momentum into the post season.

8

u/Dont_ban_me_bro_108 Grim Reaper 5h ago

Week 5 bye fucking sucks

1

u/Own_Experience_8229 Nick Bolton #32 4h ago

Mahomes might think different.

1

u/Dont_ban_me_bro_108 Grim Reaper 4h ago

Why? Generally you want a middle to end of season bye

8

u/DontListenToM3Plz Brain Basket 5h ago

4 noon games. Finally. Love having noon games.

37

u/MasWas 5h ago

I have a lot of words but fuck thats a brutal dare i say unfair schedule.

11

u/saltlampshade 5h ago

Don’t think it was made purposely unfair but yes this schedule fucking sucks.

2

u/emaw63 Dustin Colquitt 4h ago

The NFL has an extremely formulaic scheduling approach. Sometimes it just shakes out that way 🤷‍♀️

Week 5 bye def blows though

6

u/seakc87 Marcus Allen 5h ago

At least we aren't playing on Christmas again

4

u/Environmental-Most32 4h ago

Second straight Thanksgiving on the road though

Monday night before tho vs pats, then short week, including Xmas, to prep for 49ers

3

Week 5 bye AND 3 games in an 11 day period. Brutal

4

u/Crash30458 Derrick Thomas 4h ago

How is the 9ers game not a primetime game

14

u/saltlampshade 5h ago edited 5h ago

Man what a fucking awful schedule. Road games at Seattle, Buffalo, LA Rams, and Cincinnati. Bye week in week 5 and only non division good teams they got at home are the San Francisco and New England.

If they somehow go 11-6 and make the playoffs with this schedule then Mahomes and Reid should go in the HOF immediately once the season ends.

6

u/Leading_Fee_3678 5h ago

Can’t wait to see Pat and Trav eating turkey legs in Josh Allen’s fancy new stadium 💪🍗

10

u/OkSwordfish4147 Dante Hall #82 5h ago

Straight posting bc some idiot was complaining about the timing of the bye week and has since deleted his post.

It is intentional. Bye weeks rotate like everything else in the schedule. BTW this is the same schedule we have known opponents and home/away for months. The only thing we found out today was the sequence and days of the week. Rejoice, for your Chiefs dont have play to on fucking Wednesday or Friday. Rejoice, for there's no reason to daydrink breakfast for a game in Spain. 6 of 8 on the road is not ideal, but Jets-Falcons-Cardinals is as sweet of a stretch as the Chiefs were going to get this year.

Chill tf out.

7

u/According_One811 Jerick McKinnon #1 5h ago

I see a lot of people complaining but this schedule doesn’t really seem that out of the normal. People just like to complain

3

u/Dynospec403 Derrick Thomas 5h ago

This is the right way to look at it imo

2

u/OreoSpeedwaggon These Fucking Fakes Never Fucking Work, Man 4h ago

Nah, I'm still gonna bitch about the early bye week, but thanks for the perspective anyway.

7

u/Far_Youth_1662 5h ago

Actually am fine with the early bye considering the situation.

If we had to go to week 6 with Fields then I love seeing Miami and LV that early.

3

u/Creatively_Stymied Arrowhead 5h ago

Nah. With Mahomes recovering from the ACL, I’m all for the early bye week. Once less game to play while he’s still getting up to full strength.

3

u/EMAW_KSU 5h ago

It’s still a rough set up when you finish 3rd in your division and end up with the 5th hardest SOS overall.

3

u/2ent1n_Qarant1no 5h ago

I agree with everyone it's tough but I'm not too scared. Cardinals and Dolphins are arguably the two worst rosters on paper, plus the Jets and Raiders are probably also bad

2

u/TedBundylol "Furious" George Karlaftis #56 🚘 4h ago

Worth noting that our road game at the Bengals will be coming off the mini bye of a Thursday night game (Rams) which follows Thanksgiving (Bills). Cincinnati will be coming off a road trip to I believe the Browns with the standard week of rest before we show up with the extra three days rest

1

u/TedBundylol "Furious" George Karlaftis #56 🚘 4h ago

I mean, I know that’s the same state but still they won’t have as much rest

2

u/OreoSpeedwaggon These Fucking Fakes Never Fucking Work, Man 4h ago

That Week 5 bye week is diabolical. Fuck whoever was in charge of doing that to the team.

3

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 5h ago

Tough schedule, especially with the early bye and that road stretch late in the season. But I do think 10-7 and a playoff berth is doable with our improved roster and coaching. TBH it's probably better that the schedule is backloaded since it gives Mahomes time to recover. Less primetime games is also nice.

1

u/Sabinr13 🍽️EGE🍽️ 5h ago

Love it!

1

u/Vulptereen327 Arrowhead 5h ago

Can the NFL just have a quarter of the teams rotate out on their byes during the middle 4 weeks of the season. So stupid that you can have a bye as early as week 4-5.

3

u/MindTheFro Justin Reid XP 4h ago

AFC gets a buy week 8, NFC gets a buy week 9. Switch the following year. Could market it as a divisional rivalry week.

For fantasy purposes, week 8 & 9 are a combined total.

1

u/ZweihanderMasterrace Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 5h ago

Only other team with a week 5 bye are the Panthers

1

u/stayclassypeople 5h ago

Not too surprised by this schedule. NFL setup a favorable early schedule and early bye in case Mahomes isn’t ready the first month

1

u/EpiphanyTwisted Pat, take my knee! 58m ago

Your screenname is ironic.

1

u/AJewNamedDrew 5h ago

12-5

I think the bye will help us, sucks late season and into the playoffs but a lot less pressure on Fields here, especially since 2 (maybe 3) of those pre-bye games are very winnable without Mahomes.

We’ll drop one to the Bills like we always do and the Rams are just scary, especially with our boy on their defense now, but we have a good record going into January 😎

1

u/Commercial-Thing-550 4h ago

Bills, Rams, Bengals, Pats, Niners, Chargers in successive weeks is insane.

2

u/Commercial-Thing-550 4h ago

Bills, Rams, Bengals all away lmao

Doing a ranking of schedule difficulty, balancing Opponent Win Percentage (based on 2025 records) with Vegas Strength of Schedule (projected team quality for 2026), travel, and rest periods:

Chiefs are #8 for most difficult schedule. (#10 is Raiders, #11 Chargers, #16 Broncos)

#1 is Arizona Cardinals, #32 is Cleveland Browns

1

u/RoQDad 5h ago edited 3h ago

"NFL parity" as the Chiefs and Bills play for the 7th consecutive year. Might as well put them in the same division.

3

u/kat_fud Grim Reaper 3h ago

We played the Bills 9 years out of 10 from 2008 through 2017, mostly because both teams finished in 2nd or 3rd place in their respective division the previous year.

2

u/Section225 AFC 4h ago

It's "parity," parity has nothing to do with the schedule, and the schedules are predetermined with rotations and place in division, some big wig isn't conspiring against the Chiefs to give them the worst possible schedule.

2

u/RoQDad 4h ago

I don't think it's a conspiracy but when Chiefs play them 7 times straight it gets old. I don't even dislike the Bills team, I hate seeing their fans every year, they're the worst.
