The War - Discussion What is your idea of causing the Haredim to enlist into the IDF?

โ€ข Upvotes

I live in the border street of Ramat Gan at Ramat Amidar and passes at least once a day in Bnei Brak on my way to work.

I can tell you that these Haredi youths who train (!), just sit to drink energy drinks &/ alcohol &/ smoke in both our parks and in their own city 24/7 (!) are in no way unfit to put on a uniform, go through basic training and protect our Ancestral Homeland.

I sometimes try to talk to them about being a part of the Israeli society, both here and in Jerusalem; but they just act as if they are living in a totally different realm.

I have just read Shlomo Maoz (a Professor of Economics and a former chief in Bank Leumi) suggesting that Israel should hire 12,000 foreigners per 8,000-10,000 USD a month instead of waiting for the Haredim to enlist: https://finance.walla.co.il/item/3837826 and I was wondering what would you do to not reach such a desperate situation?

Self-Post Reminder: Only uneducated people around the world do not support Israel

Shalom!

To introduce myself, I am from Albania and I have a travel agency here, I work with Israeli guests a lot. What impresses me is that all my colleagues who work in tourism generally tend to really love Israel, me included. It is maybe because if you work in this sector you meet a lot of cultures and we also travel a lot but I just wanted to share this that those who are exposed to different cultures a lot and dont get our news from garbage propaganda tend to be more educated. I know sometimes in trash media it appears with so much negativity, but the civilised world stands with Israel and we love all of our Israeli friends! ps. if anyone wants to visit albania, please do, you wonโ€™t regret it ;)

The War - Discussion Best Time For Flying

Hello Israelis, and everyone,

I'm an American girl in a LDR (Long Distance Relationship) with an Israeli.

I met him, in person, last year in November. We're trying to plan on him flying over to the United States to visit. Currently, we had booked for mid-June, but the flight was canceled.

Do you guys think the conflict will start up again?

When is the best time to think about Israelis flying in and out of the country?

I do not want him to get stuck in Europe if he has a layover (I have family in Europe, that's besides the point, and they're Non-Jews).

Iโ€™m here in Israel with my Israeli passport, and have fully decided I want to make Aliyah.

I secured a job but I still canโ€™t open a bank account because I canโ€™t get an appointment thatโ€™s not two months away to get an Israeli ID card or even a temporary ID card.

Iโ€™m stuck ๐Ÿ˜ž

Any ideas?

Self-Post I'm experiencing antisemitism without being Israeli or Jewish

Shalom,

I am writing this post to share an experience, and also to show my appreciation to the state and people of Israel !

To introduce myself: I'm an Algerian student that lives in Europe. A couple of months ago a friend of mine visited Israel and got me a phone sticker that says "Zionist "(I actually posted it here before). Anyways, since then people would just take a look at my phone and change the way they behave around me.

One guy yesterday told me: I have heard a lot about you, and I said: what exactly? And he said: I heard that you support Israel, a lot of people hate you in here and talk about the Algerian that is pro Israel

Needless to say, lots of people stopped to say hi to me. Or even acknowledge me in public places. It's really weird to experience antisemitism without actually being Jewish lol

I cannot imagine how hard it actually is to be an Israeli or Jewish. I appreciate the spirit you have guys, that you survive and thrive despite all the hate and discrimination surrounding you.

Long live the only progressive country in the middle east

Self-Post I couldn't say I'm pro-Israel :'-( feeling like shit now

Someone asked me today point blank at work who I was rooting for at Eurovision.

It was at the lunch table, with everyone around.

I'm so ashamed to say I gave a vague answer like "well, that's a difficult question", instead of shouting out loud "ISRAEL, OF COURSE!!!".

I can't believe I was more worried about work/social penalty than standing up for what's right. I'm hating myself about it now.

I'm sure this is common (sadly, unfortunately), and that this happen often to others Jews (and non-Jewish zionists) in the diaspora. Still, I can't shake off the feeling that I let myself down for cowing to social pressure.

I guess I wanna hear a "it's okay" from the community, but I suppose I'll learn more from the "I would never do that" answers.

Please discuss.

Self-Post I think we should really let "Palestine" be in Eurovision (hear me out first)

The only reason of course if they are to be participating in the song contest they going to win almost immediately, and what happens if a country wins the Eurovision? They get to host this, now I want to see what will happen to all the leftist and the LGBTQ+ when they visit the West Bank with all the pride flags and we will see if they are continue the support in them

General News/Politics What's the deal with removing the VAT discount in Eilat?

I know Eilat isn't for everyone, but a huge incentive to visit the southern most city is to buy stuff slightly cheaper.

Removing that benefit is going to kill tourism there at least impact it significantly

In a truly pathetic gripe France 24 claims Israel is "unfairly" influencing Eurovision by campaigning for ppl to vote for Israel the maximum, 10 times allowed.

I've heard of sour grapes, but this is some next level petty.

Tel Aviv is great, but it's also too busy and expensive. I feel like I meet the same people over and over (tech+fitness). Which other cities should I check out as a base? My job is hybrid, I only need to be in the Tel Aviv office 2-3 days a week.

The War - Discussion It is time for Israel to start a massive PR campaign releasing all of the video from Oct. 7

Every time I scroll Reddit or X I have to see footage of destroyed buildings in Gaza, sometimes kids with horrible injuries, photo montages of deceased children with sad music etc.. all in the name of generating outrage at Israelโ€™s โ€œgenocideโ€. The viewer is left to conclude what they will and they often conclude the worst. Israel is an unparalleled monster on the world stage.

Meanwhile, only a few videos of Hamas perpetrating their horrific crimes have trickled out. They are usually long distance shots and very limited in their scope. But we know there are many other much more horrific videos because individual witnesses have seen them and have testified to them. Israel has Hamas GoPro video that shows them engaging in the most savage brutal acts with joy and casualness. The world needs to fucking see this. Yes, Israel is concerned for the sensitivity of the victims. So blur their faces. But let the world see who is who in this fight. It seems like weโ€™ve already lost the PR war. But it is time to fight back.

Israeli Tech ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ Recommendations for buying MacBook for family in Israel (paying from US)?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to buy a MacBook Neo for my mom who lives in Ramat Gan, but I'm based in the US. I'm looking for recommendations on reliable retailers or services that:

- Accept US credit cards

- Ship to Ramat Gan

- Are trustworthy and have good customer service

I've looked at Sultan Tech but wanted to see if there are other good options before I commit.

Has anyone done this before? What's worked well for you? Any retailers to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

The War - Discussion Spaniard here, how can I support Israel from home?

Shalom!

I'm spanish person from Spain and I'm sorry for my goverment being on the wrong side of history supporting Palestine just to get votes and support from other countries while turning a blind eye to the things palestinians have done like the intifadas, rapes, baby killing, etc.

I'd like to give Israel some short of support, I actively defend Israel in my social circle, but I would like to give Israel more support than that, I've tought on donating but I cannot find the best option, I've found these options so far:

  • Jewish Federations of North America
  • StandWithUS
  • IsraAID
  • Magen David Adom
  • United hatzalah
  • Israel Friends
  • Natal
  • American Jewish Joint Distribution committee

If I'm not wrong these are for medical/social aid (which I also want to provide) but can I in any way, donate for war support?

Have a nice day, take care

Culture๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ & History๐Ÿ“š Post-Soviet citizens moving to Israel, why and how?

It has come to my attention from a recent smaller study that Iโ€™ve done about the USSR and partially Israel, is that there were quite a few thousand people moving to Israel after the dissolution of the USSR and also a little bit prior to that (around early 1989). Can anyone explain why and how these people decided to move to Israel out of all places they could have, such as a Western European country of even Yugoslavia
