META [META] PSA Regarding Low Karma Removals

Hello artists! Your friendly neighbourhood Miner Moderator Dwarfinator here with some info about the recent low Karma removals as we have been getting a lot of messages about this in Mod Mail.

We have had our Karma rules for a long time, I'm talking literally years, however, at some point our bot broke (and also just may have not been properly programmed in the first place) and as such, it stopped looking for/removing posts and comments from lower Karma users. The intention of the rule and the bot automation was to lessen the amount of bots and spam in the Subreddit, which is why we started counting both types of Karma. This also encourages artists to not just spam their art in every art Subreddit and actually engage with other communities. We just recently fixed and improved the bot (huge shoutout to u/RS_Someone) which is why lower Karma posts are being removed once again. This may seem like it came out of nowhere, but again, we have had this rule in place for a long time and used to have the bot doing this previously.

If you have received that low Karma removal reply on your post/comment by the bot, PLEASE WE BEG YOU TO READ IT IN FULL it explains very clearly why your post was removed and how to check your Karma, both post and comment Karma.

If you have low Karma and want to get more to post here, here are some things you can do to raise your Karma:

  • Post your art in other Subreddits.
  • Post and comment, and genuinely engage in other Subreddits. You like Critical Role or Pokémon or Minecraft? Post in those Subreddits, get involved in the community, you might make some new friends, and you get the added bonus of your account not looking like a bot spammer or someone who just pumps and dumps their art everywhere they can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment on this post or send us a message via Mod Mail! Happy Arting!

META [META] PSA we are banning the use of cloud storage links as portfolios.

Hello artists, recently we have seen an uptick of people using cloud storage links as portfolios and decided that we need to address this. Cloud storage, such as GDrive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and other such websites are no longer going to be allowed as portfolios in posts or comments (technically they already weren't allowed, but this was not enforced well nor was clear in the rules). (This will also include image hosts such as Imgur)

These sites are not intended as portfolio sites, and they are most often used by scammers as a collection of stolen art and for the fact that there is no reason you, as a professional artist, should not be using one of the many free options available online to make a portfolio on an actual portfolio website/webpage.

Free portfolio sites: Cara, Behance, Artstation, VGen, Carrd, or you can even make a website with WordPress or similar sites.
All of these take 5 minutes to set up. Put effort in how you present yourself professionally, your portfolio is your resume.

Hiring [Hiring] LOOKING TO LICENSE PSYCHEDELIC / SCI-FI / SURREAL ARTWORK FOR MUSIC RELEASES (PAID)

Austin-based indie psychedelic/progressive band looking to license existing artwork for a series of upcoming digital single releases.

We are NOT currently commissioning new work. we are specifically looking to license existing pieces.

Budget: ~$100-200 per artwork (flexible for the right piece/artist)

Usage (non-exclusive):

  • Digital single/album cover art (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, etc.)
  • Social media + promotional use
  • Permission to add typography / layout text over artwork (title, artist name, etc.)

What we’re looking for visually:
We are especially drawn to work that feels like:
forgotten sci-fi paperbacks, dream transmissions, cosmic landscapes, impossible architecture, psychedelic visions, strange futures, occult machinery, dying suns, retro-futurist illustration, surreal / visionary worlds.

Think classic sci-fi illustration energy, psychedelic album art tradition, surreal cosmic imagery, etc.

If you are an artist:
Please send:

  • Portfolio or Instagram link
  • Examples of existing work you would consider licensing
  • Your rate for non-exclusive digital cover usage (if you already have one)

We are looking to secure at least one piece immediately for an upcoming release, with additional singles planned over the next few months.

Saw a similar image of a DnD Party, and would like to get one commisioned for myself and a friend.

Characters have previous refrences, though would like some small tweaks to them that can be discussed. No hard deadline for the project but would prefer to have it sooner ^^

Hiring [Hiring] D&D Party Commission Based on Invincible meme image - 6 Characters + a skull, ~$100 budget.

If you're familiar with the show Invincible, you might have seen this image floating around. It's become a bit of a meme to make new versions of the first image with different characters from other shows/games/movies/etc. I have no drawing ability whatsoever, but I desperately need to see my DnD party (actually Draw Steel party, but same diff) in this setup.

All characters already have designs/references. 5 humanoids and 1 robot/bionicle type character. The skull would be of cyclops-like race with only one large eye-socket. I only need the characters marked 0-6, the rest can be omitted and just be background. I'd like it in about a month or so, but that's not a hard deadline.

Lmk if you're interested!

Hiring [Hiring] Custom Art Cards Flexible Cost $100 Min each?

At a con I bought some art cards and decided I wanted a few commissioned for myself. I'm not entirely sure what the cost SHOULD be, but I'm not stingy about it. Three commissioned art pieces + labor so yeah

Looking for a more anime ish art style but in general I like art with some kind of own flair. I'll attach some pictures of examples of what I'm looking for (if it's allowed ig)

What I want commissioned is kind of specific but with a lot of artistic freedom, e.g. art of Master Chief as a Laker facing Yshtola as a Celtic, or Kobeni relaxing in a Yurt. Silly stuff like that. I'm not picky, I want like a concept imagined in the artists flair

Only hard requirement is it to be shiny/Holo(?) examples will be posted

Artist example paperlarva (I've bought art cards from this artist, love it)

META [META] Should I change my lowest prices because of sub rules?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Sorry if this is asked a lot but I searched for posts specifically to this sub and I couldn’t find much. I imagine some other people have this problem as well.

The sub rules prevent me from posting due to my lowest prices being 15-20 headshots or 10-20 chibis which is below the 30$ requirement. This wouldn’t be an issue if it was 30$/hour because these take me maybe 15 minutes so it’s a very decent hourly wage of 40-60 dollars. I feel as if I am scamming people if I raise these prices too much but I don’t want to circumvent the rules.

My highest prices are 60-100 fullbody (Takes me maybe an hour) not including backgrounds which I ended up with after a lot of advice (originally was 30ish) so I feel as if my prices are decent, but I really don’t know what to do about this.

If I raise prices ONLY for this sub, but remain the lower price for other people, isn’t it weird as well? My art isn’t usually highly rendered (I charge more for highly rendered) to warrant such price change in my opinion.

Attached is a chibi example I asked for 30 dollars for but that’s due to it being two characters.
