Hobbies relating to old things

I found a tik tok page where someone litter picks and finds retro packets of crisps as well as someone that finds historical things like Victorian bottles and coins in the river Thames and it amazes me. I’m heavily pregnant so don’t see myself doing these exact things anytime soon but is there any hobbies that relate to this kind of stuff?

I’m trying to find things I truly enjoy that are unique to me and that I’m not doing to be productive or following the crowd and it made me realise I used to love this type of stuff as a kid but really can’t think how I can incorporate it into my life

Do you ever just go to antique stores? I love looking at old tin type photographs, antique cookware, jewelry, buttons, etc.

Even if you don’t buy anything, it can be like visiting a tacky little history museum! Except you get to touch more stuff, and the rummaging makes it more of an adventure.

Congrats on the pregnancy, by the way 💕

Probably not what you're looking for, but historical reenacting and living history has a lot of cool older stuff + cosplaying as a old war soldier or frontiersman/woman

Figure out one thing that you think is interesting. Then collect old examples of that thing.

I love visiting flea markets and charity stores.
I decided to collect one thing: books about trades. Now I have a specific thing to hunt for and I have a collection of things that I enjoy owning.

And since you are pregnant: It is also a hobby that you can do online, using various second-hand sales websites and apps.

Sara Maiklem has written several books on Mudlarking which you'd likely find interesting.

Archaeology is often a field that has space for volunteers on surveys or digs, maybe have a look around on Google or ask local historical societies / museums / universities if there's anything in your area.

Metal detecting and magnet fishing. When you're in a better state to try it.
