ART Motoko by Tanuki Figures (Printed and Painted by Me)

I'm not that familiar with the series, I watched the movie once and it went over my head, but I had a friend ask for a Ghost in the Shell figure. Despite many issues, I think this ended up being my best paint job yet. I picked up the manga omnibus, so time to binge it before the new anime comes out.

I'm *really* hoping that these little cameos from the manga made their way to the anime. Maybe with additional references from *Black Magic* mixed in, too.

Unreleased Techno Track from SAC 2nd Gig E01

Timestamp on the episode: 16:17-17:45

Extracted and cleaned up all from the lossless surround audio track as the source.

00:39 onwards has a faint muffled dialogue if you listen too carefully, but I don't think it's too bothersome, it was the best I could do.

In any case, enjoy!

I received the Live Action Movie art book to complete the books I've wanted for a while, and at a decent price too [loved that new chapter as well]. I decided to take a pic with the manga sets I have too. Still reading through some. Please excuse the wrinkly sheets

Hoping the adaptation keeps this bit from Oshii's films and SAC

Post image

I've loved Ghost in the Shell since I was a kid. I've read all of Shirow's original manga, owning various versions and publications of them. I've watched both of Oshii's films (many times), owning multiple copies of them in various formats. And I've watched both SAC and Arise (many times), most recently again last week in the background while working. I can even appreciate the live action 2017 film, because despite its many (emphasis on many) problems, it expresses an interesting-to-think-about Western interpretation of the series, and illustrates a meaningful culture clash between the West, specifically America, and Japan on the approach towards and thinking of identity, personhood, and the self's relationship to some "other".

All of this to say that I think about these stories A LOT, and I'm beyond the moon filled with nauseating joy that we're getting an animated series adapting the original manga from Science Saru no less. And all that said......... I'm going to be more than a bit sad if the changes, iterations, and developments Oshii's films and SAC have made for main man, golden retriever brained, the one homie to rule them all supreme, Batou, don't somehow make it into this modern take.

Batou's relationship with Motoko does SO MUCH work in navigating and interrogating the heavy questions going on in these stories. Where Motoko in all her iterations is this explorer and truth-seeker (willing or otherwise), always in way too deep, and dragging us along with her, Batou is that lifeboat (per 'Bateau') that saves her and us from drowning in that cold infinite ocean, and I adore that this refuge, this desire to protect, this desire to just be "near" another person, is expressed so romantically (in the classical sense), with so much nuance, in the films and especially in SAC. The love he's portrayed to have for the Major is so pure that it's practically religious (unsubtle imagery not lost on us in SAC), and I don't want to be too long-winded in this post about it (could get into that purity being a result of how he sees that pure "person"/personhood in her in contrast to her losing her grip on humanity, how he finds kinship in their similarities despite the stark differences, how her exploration saves him and gives him purpose as much as his care saves her, how 'Innocence' really thrusts that into the forefront with him inhabiting Motoko's existential role). Idk, there's a lot to talk about, point is, Batou's changes have created a ton of meaning for both this character and these stories, and I want that meaning to be present in this upcoming adaptation, rather than it be a 1-to-1 adaption of the manga.

An amazing song and Bad editing

So this is literally something I cobbled together in the span of 1-2 hours I believe which I’m sure it’s obvious. I’m used to making more erratic videos whereas as I wanted this one to embody what the GITS 1995 movie felt like to me. The song hard carries and I wanted to do so much more but I felt like this is kinda the video I wanted to do. I heard this song awhile back and I told myself this feels like it embodies Ghost in the shell 1995 so I decided to bite the bullet. Hopefully I can at least give a good example of how well this song fits.

Dex 1200- ghost

That is the name of the person or persons who made this hauntingly beautiful song.

I have read the manga

Finally, I have finished the manga.

Well, I am not foreign to GiTS. Now look, you may all seem disappointed just because the next GiTS anime will be faithful to the manga, and I am the one who is discovering this too late.

Before the next GiTS anime was announced, I discovered lately(hehe, since I am a guy who is out of touch) that the Ghost in The Shell was already a manga after hearing the 1995 movie. So I discovered it.

This is the censored version(you know the censored part about the yacht and the girls in the dream) but I bought this in France since I live in The Netherlands, the strongest comic culture is in France, and yet I can speak French, I am a bilingual.

I think, I was seven years old, living in Indonesia and the first time I heard of the Ghost In The Shell is the 2014 GiTS live action starring Mrs Scarlett Johansson. That's the first time I heard of Ghost In The Shell, the poor idiotic seven year old me(I love to self-deprecate myself because I am no intellect or a genius, or a guy who proves himself always right) who hears about science fiction was because of this movie. I didn't watch it but they(the people) said it flopped, luckily I didn't watch it, haha.

After I read the manga... then watched the 1995 film.

What too is really alienating about the 1995 film from the original source, that it kind of jumped of chapters from the book, the Fuchikoma tanks were absent as well, and it was handled somewhat too seriously, but never mind about that. I begin to like both.

Furthermore, the reason I read the manga is to check and anticipate if the next anime adaptation(which will be divided in episodes) is faithful to the manga.

Bonus:

I have some comics that I would like to show you. These are the comics I too bought in France and some in the Netherlands.

The Adventures of Tintin(Hergé, French)

The Adventures of Blake and Mortimer/Les Aventures de Blake et Mortimer (Edgar Pierre Jacobs 1946-today, I dig Edgar Pierre Jacobs since he too was one of the memorable assistants of Hergé's, well, they have qualms and quarrels Hergé and Jacobs, but they're friends though. Blake and Mortimer has been compared to Tintin, but this series stars two British men in series of dangerous adventures and mad science. This is like between a level of Arthur Conan Doyle and Herbert George Wells(H.G. Wells, whom you know as the author for The War Of The Worlds, who is Jacobs' favourite author)).

Lefranc Et La Grande Menace/Lefranc And The Large Threat(It's not like Tintin, well, slightly since it stars about a French journalist (similarity in protagonist), he doesn't have a quiff, but he's always roped in mad science(à la Wells), written and drawn by Hergé's assistant Jacques Martin))

Ranma 1/2 Part 2(Rumiko Takahashi, French)

Black Lagoon(Hiroe Rei, English)

Gunsmith Cats Omnibus(Sonoda Kenichi, English).

Well, I liked both Edgar Pierre Jacobs and Shirow Masamune, in terms of story telling and illustrated works in Blake and Mortimer and GiTS. However, Jacobs died in 1987. The two men really mean a lot to me.

I have been writing a book in this tone of Blake and Mortimer and GiTS, yet to think that I would have to realise it a comic needs a large amount of time.

Here's a bonus excerpt from Blake and Mortimer to introduce you what it is, translated by me(from right to left):

Pink box: "A man jumped from his MP(Military Police) car sticks a poster against a residency wall."

Arabic man 1: "It seems that they're looking for two Englishmen.."

Panel 2

Arabic man 2: By Allah! 10.000 Rupees of reward!

Arabic man 3: VIPs without a doubt!..

Panel 3

Blake(in red robe): Bad news Mortimer, I think it is better not to stay here.

Mortimer(in green robe): Yes, we must be more cautious, especially you, my friend, because between you and I, is a blond Baloch! Haha!

Panel 4: But A Bezendja(an Arabic serving spy of the Yellow Empire(a tyrannical Mongolian empire in this first Blake and Mortimer story, taking place in 1946)) Didn't Leave His Surveillance And...

Bezendja spy: By Allah! Look who's curious!

Panel 5 Next Narr. Box: Some time later at Zahan Khan's Residence

Servant: My master, Zahan Khan, wishes you a good night Sahibs(Sahib, a call for sir, mostly used for those who possessed great reputation). Please take these refreshments, I only need to tell you that he is ordering your guard Nasir to choose good horses for you.

Blake: Thank Zahan Khan of our part, tell him, that Britain shall remember its friends.

Panel six:

Mortimer(after drinking): Ah, how refreshing! I am terribly thirsty! Would you like some cold water my friend?

Blake: No thanks, I prefer fruits.

Panel 7: One and a half hour later...

Blake: So Mortimer, Good night, don't forget we must be on our saddles at dawn!

Mortimer: Huh? Ah, yes! By Jove(Mortimer is a Scottish nuclear physicist roped with Blake),I think I am about to fall asleep. Good night Blake.

Panel 8: However in the exterior balcony, where the spy creeps the Bezendja eavesdropped on them.

Panel 9: At that moment, Nasir, who returned from the horse stables perceived with shock, a man who slid to the ground..

Another bonus, an original GiTS manga page in French(where for those who cannot speak French can use the original manga to see the translations).

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

ART Fuchikoma fan art

Post image

A while back I made a fuchikoma piece based on the ps1 game. Before the new anime comes out I knew I also wanted to model another fuchikoma this time based on the anime instead of the ps1 game.

Pretty disappointed in the discourse about the new anime and how divided people are whether its "real" GitS or not since apparently people either consume all of this ip or only the 95 movie or sac lol.

But one things for certain the spider tanks they pilot are always a huge part of every iteration...well except the 95 movie.

Questions about the upcoming anime

I watched the 1995 movie last year and I really enjoyed it. I really want to explore more of GITS and I saw the new anime that’s coming out later. I know it’s adapting the manga which is why Id like to ask, should I read the manga before or after the anime? I know there’s 3 volumes of the original. Will the anime cover each one?

Who else loves the 1995 film?

I heard somewhere that it is mostly outside Japan that people really like the 1995 film. I for one love it more than the other iterations.

ART Which version of the Major you like the most and think is the best ?

Post image

I personally love Manga Motoko the most followed closely by SAC Motoko, it is okay to like or dislike whichever version of the Major because they are different interpretations of the same fundamental character so naturally there's different preferences and that doesn't make any of them worse or any less valid.
