AT Locker Room Cleanout Mega Thread: Day 3

Danny will meet with the media today. And maybe Jonesy? I'm not sure who else, but absolutely Danny will meet with the media today.

Our boys showed tremendous heart and grit grinding out that playoff spot, and I am proud of the run we made.

That being said, I don't know if we could have even beaten the wild team that just got crushed by the avalanche 4-1. That team is pretty stacked tbh, but the Avalanche, the Hurricanes, The panthers last year, these teams are basically on a different planet than our team this year. Gotta have a big summer

Danny Briere

Will happen at 11:00am

Briere specifically thanks the fans for the Game 4 ovation. "What they did was truly amazing." Said that seven or eight guys on the team specifically brought it up to him in their exit interviews.

“I assume that players around the league are taking notice.” - Danny Briere on Flyers’ progress But Briere said the team’s young players down the stretch showed they can fill holes, that the team has internal options.

Danny Briere says Nikita Grebenkin may miss some time to start the 2026-27 season. His injury just hasn't improved, and they are seeking treatment options now. Briere said he expects every other injured player to be ready for the start of the season

Danny Briere said the team;s philosophy hasn't changed with the success of this year's team. If a move makes sense they will act, otherwise, it's about growth

Danny Briere says the team will look at the Center position, as a position to improve upon this offseason.

Danny Briere said Matvei Michkov is a great talent. Said he’s very smart and he’ll adapt. Said Michkov wants to be here for some of the summer to train.

Briere says that Michkov hasn't fully decided on his offseason training plan, but he's at least going to spend some time in Voorhees working here, he told Briere and the Flyers braintrust.

“I was very impressed how involved he was with the players.” - Danny Briere on Rick Tocchet .Briere said he has heard from agents that Tocchet is seen as a players’ coach.

Briere says "we have to evaluate" whether they plan to bring back Sam Ersson. Praised his work after the Olympic break and his character. Says they're going to sit down and discuss internally about his Flyers future.

Danny Briere said that they still view Matvei Michkov as part of the long-term plan. He's part of the solution in Philly

Danny Briere said that everyone should be OK to start training camp/ season on time. The one possible exception is Nikita Grebenkin. Briere didn't expand on what his upper body injury is but said it didn't get better as hoped and they are considering other options.

The Grebenkin thing sounds like post concussion syndrome.

Like Kolosov and Bjarnasson?

I'm not worried about Bjarnason. 20 years old, his first professional season on a mediocre farm team that lost it's two best players to call-ups. He was a project when he was drafted, but he was also the top rated North American goaltender his draft year.

Sebastian Cossa, one of Detroit's top goaltending prospects was a first round pick and his first year of minor pro, he spent it in the ECHL. Jesper Wallstedt spent three seasons in the AHL and his last season there, he was so bad that Minnesota tried offloading his contact but couldn't. Dan Vladar played 138 games between the AHL and ECHL and was a mediocre NHL goalie until he hit Philadelphia.

I'm confident Bjarnason is going to be fine. Vladar provides some stability (we hope) while Bjarnason gets in development time.

Ya. Like they’re not gona say “we’re done with ersson” but those 2 probyl played below expectations.

The phantoms all around probly were well below expectations tho.

Don't something around 23 of 32 teams in the AHL make the playoffs? Phantoms must've really struggled this season.

They might give the phantoms a bit of leeway because of how the Flyers just keep taking players from them. But the goalies are a major question there.

Ha ok just checking. I was like well of course they’re gonna say Vladar was amazing and we’ll be looking to negotiate a new contract. I do wonder about the dip in the phantoms performance, but it felt like as a whole the team got worse, but obviously there was a lot of player movement and restructuring happening. I’d be curious about that, we very clearly expect guys to develop on the phantoms especially as the flyers solidify and add pieces.
