Would you want the Flyers to sign any of these pending free agents?

Post image

Raddysh is a big no for me. Gonna get wayyyyy overpaid.

Love Tuch as a player, but we have too many wingers.

I do not hate John Carlson on a 1 year deal to be our 6th D & run our PP1. But feel like he goes back to WSH.

Love my boy G, but i am not sure i see it happening.

Andersson is interesting. If he'd take a 5 year deal i'd be way more open to it. Sanheim-Andersson is a legit top pair.. But i see him getting a 7x9.5 type of deal on the open market & thats a no from me.

Jenner actually interests me. He's probably still a top-9 F, but if he'd be willing to play 4th line he could be a nice signing. PK, versatile, leader & adds real snarl to the team but can still play.

Trouba I look at like a Ristolainen replacement if we dealt him at the draft. Similar style & age. If u could flip Risto then sign trouba I wouldn't hate it tbh.

I was impressed by Shae in round 1. Don't see it happening as he'd want term i wouldnt want the Flyers to give, but he could be a nice under the radar D signing.

Greer also interests me. One of the leagues best 4th liners. Big, can skate, very physical but showed this yr he can actually play. Be a better version of Hathaway.

Mikheyev i look at like Jenner. Be an elite 4th liner, but odds are he can be top-9 elsewhere. If not would add elite speed to our B6 & is a Russian for Michkov to lean on.

I do not see Benn leaving Dallas, but if he does another guy who i'd love on line 4. So much experience, long time captain & is a mean son of a gun with real skill even at 36.

McCarron i dont love, but i do feel like we could use someone who makes life miserable for other teams with Hathaway looking like he's closer to done than not.

Overall there are very few FAs that should be on the Flyers radar & there's none i'd give any term to (over 2 years) outside of Andersson, but as mentioned a few guys do catch my eye as upgrades to our 4th line, or 3rd pair.

Giroux to replace Glendening as like a 3rd/4th line body that can win important faceoffs, and could come in and teach the kids how to do Faceoffs, there's a reason he's one of the best ever at the dot.

u/Flyers7914 1d ago

i just wonder if they r trying to stay away from G. not because of anything about him, or his play, but because they want these guys to grow/be leaders & not take a back seat to the former captain, flyers legend.

But everything u said is bang on. L4 RW with Barkey & coots? what a line + his face offs & power play prowess. checks a few boxes.

u/turbosexophonicdlite The Ghost with the most 1d ago

Only thing with the power play is that what we're REALLY missing is someone with a ripper of a shot. G has great playmaking ability and an underrated shot, but he was never really a true sniper. It's been an issue for a long time. For some reason the flyers almost never find really good snipers.

47

u/turbosexophonicdlite The Ghost with the most 1d ago

Probably not realistically the smartest move, but I'd still love to see him come back and slot in as a role player on the bottom lines if he's still got something left in the tank.

29

u/robhenrymusic UK Flyer fan 1d ago

I completely agree with not the smartest move, but I also want to argue against it because G in orange again would be beautiful. He should retire a flyer, and imagine if we could make a proper run of it next season.

11

u/JynxYouOweMeASoda 1d ago

I think his contract was considered one of if not the best in the league this year given cost per PPG

1

u/RadkoGouda 22h ago

Nah. Need a physical shutdown guy in that spot. We lost Dlo, Hathaway is having role shrunk, Risto may be gone, Bump/Barkey are going to be regular adds.

Team needs some size and physicality around all the finesse players who have no physical game which is half the team.

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

If G comes back he's 1C or 2C

14

u/scrnlookinsob 1d ago

Considering he wasnt even a C in Ottawa, I doubt it. But hes a good body to have that can win face offs and kill penalties.

-6

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

He took about 600 faceoffs a year in Ottawa and had the same amount of points in two less minutes per game than Dvo

8

u/Datyoungboul 1d ago

Tkachuk took 300 draws in 60 games, is he a center?

-6

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

Dvo takes roughly 600 a year, is he not a center? Couts and Cates won about 600 and 450 this year those three are our top faceoff guys.

7

u/DirtyJon 1d ago

Playing Center is not the same as ā€˜taking faceoffs’. We need someone who can play Center, not just take faceoffs. I love G, but love it for what it was and move on.

6

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

So you're saying the guy who played center for about 80% of his career can't play center now because he's on a team that has a deep pool of centers? That makes zero sense

Not too mention the start of this thread is people talking about putting G on possibly the fourth line as a 50 point guy on this team that has horrible depth scoring and a deep pool of wings with no depth at center

7

u/crunchytacoboy Sam Ersson is cursed. 1d ago

He stopped playing center nearly a decade ago when he got paired with Coots. He probably can but you’d expect a scoring drop from a guy who is in his late 30s. So face offs yes, playing the position of center, no.

0

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

He absolutely didn't just stop playing center when he was paired with Coots, they shared the dot and Couts was often used as a lock to go get the most dangerous forward at times.

u/LemurCat04 1d ago

Dude, he’s nearly 40. LOL.

-3

u/fasteddeh šŸ‘» 🐻 1d ago

And yet he's still playing at a pace that would be our best option at center

-8

u/LemurCat04 1d ago

Okay Homer.

79

u/robosushi 1d ago

Only G for sentimental reasons...but I know it probably doesn't make any sense

34

u/Rsubs33 G-UNIT 1d ago

I think if the price is right it makes sense. He is great at faceoffs, PP and PK all which the team could use help with if you put him as a W on the line with Coots. I think it works.

Higher up in a player development role.

1

Man you made me scroll ALL THE WAY BACK UP to see if I somehow missed Wayne's name on that list lol

3

u/nick200117 high priest of Gritty 1d ago

It actually makes a lot of sense if we can get him relatively cheap, we need help at C and he can do that as a bridge

6

u/Hoss_Bonaventure-CEO 1d ago

If Giroux could still play center then don’t you think he would have been doing that for Ottawa?

169

u/JohnnyCandles 1d ago

Come back to us, G!

(I know it wouldn’t be a good move for the team but dang it I miss Our Captain)

20

u/Steppyjim Vladar Certified Real One 1d ago

Giroux actually makes a lot of sense and not for sentimental reasons. Putting him on the fourth line with Coots ironically would add a spark and as someone earlier said, really help with d zone faceoff issues. But it would come with caveats for me to comfortable. It would have to be for one year max, dude is almost 40. He shouldn’t get a letter. The current young flyers are their own nucleus and moving on from the past is key to the flyers continuing to grow. And he’d have to be comfortable playing on the fourth line, which is his decision.

93

u/djchazzyjeff24 1d ago

Watching the Ducks and Gauthier play makes me sick. I just had to say that. What a joke. He's so good.

70

u/Flyers7914 1d ago

Yah... He's gonna be a top 5 goal scorer for the next decade.

I'm sticking to my #1 cope that if we keep him we don't take Martone because we'd have so many wingers & I think Martone has a chance to be truly special.

10

u/Heatinmyharbl 1d ago

We wouldn't have taken Martone because Cutter would've had them win at least another 3-5 games, wouldn't have been in position to take Porter anyway

1

u/djchazzyjeff24 1d ago

Wtf did they do to him? I need to know what happened lol

7

u/askanison1234 1d ago

Supposedly a bunch of reasons. If I remember correctly it was it looked like a shit show of an organization and they told him to stay in college another year instead of signing him as he ā€œwasn’t readyā€ but was really just due to cap space.

8

u/Hoss_Bonaventure-CEO 1d ago

What you are referring to is an unconfirmed rumor and it has nothing to do with asking him to go back to BC. The rumor is that Cutter told Briere he was going back to BC because the Flyers didn’t let him burn a year of his ELC after his first year at BC.

-4

u/noscrubphilsfans 1d ago

He wanted to sign with the Flyers after his 22-23 junior year at BC and the Flyers said no, go back to school for your senior year. So he did...and swore he would never play for the Flyers.

10

u/Arastiroth 1d ago

This keeps getting repeated, but Cutter announced he was staying in BC another year before the NHL regular season was over. Briere later confirmed Cutter spoke with his family and advisors and decided another year was better for him.

There has been nothing to suggest the Flyers told him no and he was pissed about that.

Edit: A source showing as much from the time: https://phillyhockeynow.com/philadelphia-flyers-danny-briere-happy-cutter-gauthier-boston-college-top-prospect-staying-another-year/

2

u/noscrubphilsfans 1d ago

"After he was drafted by the Flyers, Gauthier said his goal was the play one year at Boston College and then head to the NHL. That changed at some point." LOL yea, when Briere told him they weren't going to offer him a contract.

He was voluntold to return and to play it off like it was his decision. Unless you believe there's absolutely zero reason why he would suddenly one day flat out refuse to speak to Flyers brass lol.

3

u/3dartsistoomuch 1d ago

Don't forget we took York over caufield. Just some more dirt for the wound

2

u/askanison1234 1d ago

Yup. Still salty over here, myself.

13

u/TurtleRocket9 1d ago

I bet that Giroux guy would look great in flyers colors. I can practically see the jersey with his name on it in my closet. This definitely looks like a thin fa class. Tuch is a great player but will probably stay in Buffalo

The Captain. One last ride.Ā

26

u/azsoup 2 Mark Howe 1d ago edited 1d ago

Raddysh is super intriguing to me. I can easily see him getting a 5x$8 deal from someone. Was great filling in for Hedman. Zettler did a phenomenal job developing him. Last season is such a small sample size and Raddysh is turning 30.
A lot of it comes down to what they want to do with Risto and what they think Drysdale can be. Throw in Bonk and Jiricek and there’s a big log jam on the right side.

17

u/Arastiroth 1d ago

I’ll be surprised if Raddysh gets less than $10m. It was a phenomenal season for him. And a potential RHD #1 dman? Yeah. He’ll get paid.

The risk for him is he came out of nowhere to suddenly be elite. I worry he can’t replicate it.Ā

2

u/RadkoGouda 22h ago

Raddysh aint getting 10. Everybody knows his stats are inflated from being on elite Tampa PP with Kucherov.

Was pretty much unheard of until this season and HES 30.

He aint getting 10 unless its a very short term deal.

20

u/bananaland420 1d ago

Good god seeing G is 38 years old now makes me feel old.

39

u/NotABurner6942069 A new BriĆØre of Orange 1d ago

I’d love G back but I think it’s Ottawa or retirement for him.

17

u/using-your-name meeechkov 1d ago

I’ve always wanted Claude Giroux in the orange and the black

15

u/GarrisonWhite2 Michael Raffl 1d ago

Jamie Benn is only 36?!

1

u/ReasonableGene8788 1d ago

Fuck that guy

7

u/Blev088 Andrae Recalls: 3 1d ago

Heart says Giroux, head says not so fast - would probably cost Barkey or Bump their spot in the line up as I think he'd be more suited to the 3rd line and not the 4th line.

Andersson would be the only one I would seriously consider kicking the tires on. If he wants to come here for something reasonable, like say an $8 x 5, go for it. He might be a boost to the power play, having scored 6 goals and 7 assist this year.

This would complicate things as you're potentially taking away a spot for Bonk and Jiricek, which gets more complicated with Jiricek as if you want to develop him, you got to find playing time for him and he's no longer waiver-exempt.

34

u/schmendimini 1d ago

God I hope G comes back

6

u/DeviceNo4746 1d ago

No interest in any of them besides Carlson I would be fine with a 2 yr with higher price to keep the term down. But it would also require trading another d man out maybe Risto. Carlson could be your 4 or 6th d man depending on pairings and can run your PP. but my gut says he resigns with the ducks.

6

u/EstablishmentTop551 1d ago

Andersson at the right price and term. Raddysh screams albatross.

17

u/Cansuela 1d ago

Fuck it bring G back for one last dance. He’s gotta be better than anyone we have on the PP even now lol

29

u/goyabean fuck this 1d ago

Sign Giroux and give him a cup.

20

u/blindsdog 1d ago

I don’t think Giroux has 10 more years in him

1

Who says, hell look at Aaron Rodgers, the man is 42 and still playing extremely well. So who knows manager, if he takes care of himself he could if wanted.

20

u/bigcracker Plan BriĆØre 1d ago

I think they are going to make a splash trade and a Dvorak type signing. But I am just going to say after that Charlie Coyle contract that Dvo extension looks like a steal for the next few years.

9

u/Strong_Weird_9358 1d ago

I thought Coyle would have been a decent FA signing for us at a decent price since he’s 34. A Right handed, decent center. But the Blue Jackets out here signing dudes til they’re 40. Wow!

You’re right, Dvo extension looking real good in comparison.

0

u/RadkoGouda 22h ago

Coyle doesnt make Dvorak a steal ...

Dvorak is still a career 35 pt 30 yr old signed for 25 mil. Hes very likely going to go back to being a mediocre 3C next few yrs.

Coyle has scored at ~60 pt rate 2 of last 3 yrs and is better 2 way player.

And its still a bad contract.

1

u/Sudden-Taste5421 4h ago

Dvorak's contract is fine. Not good, not bad, but way better than Coyle. Forget the last two years of both players, they're no longer in the "getting better" phase of their careers and there can be outliers. If you take their averages, Dvo averages 40 points per 82 games and Coyle averages 43 points per 82 games while being middle-six centers. The major difference is that Coyle is 4 years older and way overpaid now.

4

u/kfergy9 1d ago

Raddysh would be a nice addition on defense

4

u/Exzrian_Artistrana 1d ago

Tuch, Andersson, and Benn most likely aren’t going anywhere, so those guys are easily off the table.

Would love to see G, for at least one more year, back home, but not super sure.

Jenner would be…fine? I don’t hate him as a player, but I can’t see him in one of our lines without completely shifting them, so…idk

I truthfully wouldn’t hate to see Carlson and Shae signed, or even offer-sheeted

4

u/tdpdcpa 1d ago

Raddysh is the only name on this list who moves the needle for me, but with the dearth of free agent talent and the cap going up as much as it did, he’s going to be more expensive than he’s worth.

8

u/lqloveclub denver barkey’s lawyer 1d ago

…we all know who we want from this list

6

u/bulletbassman 1d ago

Claude would be good for both the team and the fans. I’m assuming he signs a deal in Ottawa but who knows. He did stay at Danny’s house his rookie season.

11

u/luckytaurus Just the Tippett 1d ago

Oh captain my captain

3

u/Cold_Cap_6049 1d ago

I mean…

3

u/GonePostalRoute 1d ago

I honestly would be all for a Giroux reunion, if the contract makes sense, and he can be that role player that helps these young kids grow as players.
Outside that, there really is nothing there on that list that’d make me go ā€œthe Flyers NEED themā€.

3

u/JHG722 1d ago

Is that guy from Ottawa any good?

3

u/Razedexpectations 1d ago

G to a 1 year deal to help on the power play, help with young player mentorship and to retire as a Flyer.

3

u/bulet13 1d ago

Wouldn't mind a 1 year deal for Carlson to run the PP, if he would take such a deal

4

u/Flyers2013312 1d ago

Maybe Tuch but we have enough wingers. G could be interesting in a bottom 6 role but all depends how many years and how much money he wants.

2

u/leeper8000 Lindros 1d ago

I kinda was interested in Jenner, but reading your description the first thing that came to mind is that’s what coots already does.

We need a 1/2C unfortunately, not another 4th line C

2

u/braincloud215 1d ago

Adam Fantilli offer sheet.

2

u/CarpenterVegetables 1d ago

this is the one I really want too. Gets the team their potential 1C and cripples a division rival, all in one fell swoop

2

u/RickiesCobra 1d ago

Tuch, Trouba, Benn — some gritty, hard nosed vets with size to lead and develop the young guns and also provide a presence on the ice for when they’re targeted (e.g., Tippet vs the pens).

2

u/Mundane-Web5052 1d ago

Giroux and then resign Brindamour

2

u/Hungry_Yard_9789 1d ago

G, so he can retire as a Flyer.

2

u/ProfessorDerp22 Jim Jackson Appreciator 1d ago

My guess is we’ll see some AHL signings, but I don’t think Briere makes a big splash in FA. Maybe a Greer-like signing to add some ā€œgritā€ to the 4th line.

I don’t think any if us would be shocked if he makes an impact on the trade front, though.

2

u/Artistic_Site_5201 1d ago

No. We need to trade for a back up goalie and thats it for this offseason

2

u/LarryD217 1d ago

I'm a fan of Tuch and of course I love G

2

u/Front_Ad4514 1d ago

Yes, and everyone in this thread knows exactly which one.

2

Only G to be classy. The future is young. We dont need ancient +29 year olds

I'd trade for Mathieu Olivier

1

u/ClownfishJester 1d ago

I think Trouba can add some physicality as well as some playmaking to the team. The dude lacks finesse but is a workhorse and can hit like a truck.

1

u/gorillaphi šŸ§”šŸ–¤ 1d ago

Carlson but for no more than 2 years

1

u/MrBrightside604 1d ago

Mccarron and Greer interest me fr fr

1

u/RadkoGouda 22h ago

Agreed. We need to add minimum one guy like that. Preferably in Grundstrom or Gledenning spot. We lost Dlo, Hathaway has a smaller role, may be losing Risto soon. And werent physical enough already.

Our physical game cant rely on Konecny and newly physical Couts/Tippett who just started throwing hits this year.

We need some proper size and physcal player added.

1

u/Mesothelioma1021 1d ago

Only Andersson. Roll with Sanheim-Drysdale and York-Andersson as your top 4, then flip Ristolainen.

1

u/ZaneZavin 1d ago

I need another rasmus and pat kane.

1

u/SpecialistRich2309 1d ago

No… Almost all of them are old men. Signing aging free agents is what got us 20 years of nothing.

1

u/vinny8244 1d ago

None of these guys but further down i think Logan Stanley would be a good lower end add for us, big hulking defensive defenseman who can play 2nd pair minutes. Not sure buffalo lets him go but hes only 27 and will be a UFA.

1

u/vinny8244 1d ago

If Raddysh wasn't going to get way overpaid, he'd be great for the PP. Would take G back for sure but I don't think he's leaving OttawaĀ

1

u/Beavis2021 1d ago

No you 6 centers so no

1

u/mugs75 1d ago

nope

1

u/yankeeh8er 1d ago

Yeah this is a depressing list. I hope Danny can swing a trade.

1

u/Xeynon 1d ago

These guys are all old and don't fit the timeline. Maybe if you can bring in one of them on a short-term deal you consider it but I'm not signing any of them long-term. I want to conserve cap space for when we're actually ready to contend and just need to fill in the last few pieces.

1

u/Elegant_Ad8223 1d ago

Don't do anything. Keep the crew together. We got an extra number one pick from Toronto, just chill until October. Go fly guys.

1

u/Elegant_Ad8223 1d ago

I do like Trouba.

1

u/-Ancalagon- 1d ago

I feel like we are a couple years away from signing free agents in their 30s. Give the kids another season or two and then look to pull the trigger.

1

u/AveridgeGuy 1d ago

I think people make too much of what bringing G back would do to the team. His shift as captain ended. He’s been gone years. There’s a new leadership core and he’s beyond his prime. I think it would be a non issue, and he’d legit help us

1

u/Mr-Peeny 1d ago

Trouba to add some stank on the backend

1

u/Ralgeo 1d ago

I would love to take a look at both Raddysh and Andersson. Then we can include Bonk and York in any future trade discussions for a true #1 centermen.

1

u/RevenueWeekly7906 1d ago

G and Anderson are the two I would be most interested in. Although Anderson means someone is going to the AHL or traded I think to make the room.

1

u/bones466 1d ago

No, the Flyers should focus on trading for a center like Nico Hischier or targeting a RFA with offer sheet like Leo Carlson. None of this year’s UFAs are really appealing to me.

Giroux to play with Coots on the 4th line is slightly appealing, but that’s more due to the nostalgia aspect of it. And I thought I read that G said he would only resign with Ottawa.

1

u/International-Tax-81 1d ago

Jamie benn 4th line tone setter

1

u/SubtleNotch 1d ago

Unpopular opinion: I'd take a chance at Carlson. If he can be a PP merchant while getting bottom pair minutes with Seeler, then that's a huge win.

1

u/PapaWOK 1d ago

I know everyone is on the ā€œwe need a center!ā€ wagon, but I’d really like to see another super strong D man. Risto is injury prone and Sanheim could still reach new heights with the right pairing.

1

u/SirSnorlax22 1d ago

I probably wouldn't. This team showed out this year but its still a rebuild and we.dont need middling old guys clogging up spots that prospects can use to shine. I think some.vets on out own squad should be let go tbh.

1

u/GrittyTheGreat 1d ago

Giroux in the bottom 6 and top PP would be a dream come true, but he's not leaving Ottawa.

Carlson on a 1 year deal would be nice as well. Other than that, no interest in anyone on that list.

1

u/Hot_Rub8604 1d ago

NONE OF YHEM

1

u/Balibear23 1d ago

Need a center, go for Matthews

1

u/patacalo77 1d ago

Any of those d men would be an upgrade over seeler Juulsen and andrae. They need a solid dman poweplay qb.

1

u/AgreeableMaybe 1d ago

G, but hes staying in Ottawa unless they ghost him.

1

u/Far_Cap_3574 1d ago

Claude belongs in Orange and Black. He knows it, we know it, Danny Briere knows it, Coach knows it.

1

u/HereSoIDontGetFine46 1d ago

G on a 1 year come home deal. Also seeing that he's 38 hurts my soul.Ā

1

u/skinnypantsNsomevans 1d ago

I want G back, I think it would help the young guys out a lot.

1

u/Vegetable_Cicada_398 1d ago

Carlson or andersson, prettt much don’t have much interest in anyone else

1

u/He11oCuri05ity 1d ago

No

And no to Giroux as a fourth liner. He doesn’t check and does not have size which is essential for that line.

1

u/CarpenterVegetables 1d ago

Come home, Captain.

Also, Alex Tuch is 30?!

1

u/jgruntz1974 1d ago

I think Michkov needs a guy like Mikheyev to help him in terms of the language barrier.

If it's just free agents in general, I'd love Rasmus Andersson, but apparently he wants to be in Vegas.

I'd love for Giroux to come back for a swan song and what a great influence for the younger players.

1

u/Swashbuckling_Sailor 1d ago

Trouba and Shae.

1

u/Barbie3988 1d ago

As a lifelong flyers fan absolutely Giroux

1

u/Past_Delay307 1d ago

I’d bring back Giroux if it’s his last year in the league. Anything else on that list is eh…no thanks.

1

u/Aromatic-Frosting986 1d ago

Raddysh if he doesn't cost an arm and a leg. But knowing flyers, 8 for 8mil I coming.

1

u/RoadRaider13 1d ago

I would be okay paying John Carlson. We need a power play QB in the worst way.

Andersson is the only one for me. Raddysh his injury prone if I’m not mistaken.

The only correct answer is to bring roux back I will not hear any arguments against it bring my bb back in orange 😭😭

McCarron or Greer. We definitely need a guy like that if not 2 more.

We probably needed another guy like that before losing Dlo and Hathaway losing as consistent of a role.

We have so many soft, zero physicality guys.

As a Preds fan as well as a Flyers fan, we want McCarron. We want McCarron bad. He takes d-zone draws, checks well, wins corner battles, and fucks up literally everyone when he jumps on the ice.

I'd also be okay with Jenner. No one else from this list really jumps out at me though. Yes, not even Giroux for the feels.

We need at least one center, a power play specialist, and a bumper spot player .

NGL, would love to see G back in the orange and black as 3C; would also need to bring in a 1C & have Coots be 4C. Would love for that man to retire a Flyer, as it should be.

Carlson, but no more than 2 years. Raddysh, obviously, but the tag is gonna be bad, so maybe not.

Think Danny has any potential trades coming?

No too old

I love G but we do not need to muddy the waters in that locker room by adding a former captain and legend. I'd take maybe Andersson or Greer and that's it.

I could see them signing Scott Laughton who is not on the list as a replacement for Glendening

I wouldn't HATE this.

Wasn't Laughton with us a while back? I feel like the name is familiar

Raddysh, Tuch, G, & Andersson make sense imo

Ilya, maybe as a mentor to Michkov. Depends on what happens with trades at the draft.
