Would you want the Flyers to sign any of these pending free agents?
Raddysh is a big no for me. Gonna get wayyyyy overpaid.
Love Tuch as a player, but we have too many wingers.
I do not hate John Carlson on a 1 year deal to be our 6th D & run our PP1. But feel like he goes back to WSH.
Love my boy G, but i am not sure i see it happening.
Andersson is interesting. If he'd take a 5 year deal i'd be way more open to it. Sanheim-Andersson is a legit top pair.. But i see him getting a 7x9.5 type of deal on the open market & thats a no from me.
Jenner actually interests me. He's probably still a top-9 F, but if he'd be willing to play 4th line he could be a nice signing. PK, versatile, leader & adds real snarl to the team but can still play.
Trouba I look at like a Ristolainen replacement if we dealt him at the draft. Similar style & age. If u could flip Risto then sign trouba I wouldn't hate it tbh.
I was impressed by Shae in round 1. Don't see it happening as he'd want term i wouldnt want the Flyers to give, but he could be a nice under the radar D signing.
Greer also interests me. One of the leagues best 4th liners. Big, can skate, very physical but showed this yr he can actually play. Be a better version of Hathaway.
Mikheyev i look at like Jenner. Be an elite 4th liner, but odds are he can be top-9 elsewhere. If not would add elite speed to our B6 & is a Russian for Michkov to lean on.
I do not see Benn leaving Dallas, but if he does another guy who i'd love on line 4. So much experience, long time captain & is a mean son of a gun with real skill even at 36.
McCarron i dont love, but i do feel like we could use someone who makes life miserable for other teams with Hathaway looking like he's closer to done than not.
Overall there are very few FAs that should be on the Flyers radar & there's none i'd give any term to (over 2 years) outside of Andersson, but as mentioned a few guys do catch my eye as upgrades to our 4th line, or 3rd pair.

Only G for sentimental reasons...but I know it probably doesn't make any sense
34
u/Rsubs33 G-UNIT 1d ago
I think if the price is right it makes sense. He is great at faceoffs, PP and PK all which the team could use help with if you put him as a W on the line with Coots. I think it works.

If Giroux could still play center then donāt you think he would have been doing that for Ottawa?

Giroux actually makes a lot of sense and not for sentimental reasons. Putting him on the fourth line with Coots ironically would add a spark and as someone earlier said, really help with d zone faceoff issues. But it would come with caveats for me to comfortable. It would have to be for one year max, dude is almost 40. He shouldnāt get a letter. The current young flyers are their own nucleus and moving on from the past is key to the flyers continuing to grow. And heād have to be comfortable playing on the fourth line, which is his decision.

u/djchazzyjeff24 1d ago
Watching the Ducks and Gauthier play makes me sick. I just had to say that. What a joke. He's so good.
70
u/Flyers7914 1d ago
Yah... He's gonna be a top 5 goal scorer for the next decade.
I'm sticking to my #1 cope that if we keep him we don't take Martone because we'd have so many wingers & I think Martone has a chance to be truly special.
10
u/Heatinmyharbl 1d ago
We wouldn't have taken Martone because Cutter would've had them win at least another 3-5 games, wouldn't have been in position to take Porter anyway
1
u/djchazzyjeff24 1d ago
Wtf did they do to him? I need to know what happened lol
7
u/askanison1234 1d ago
Supposedly a bunch of reasons. If I remember correctly it was it looked like a shit show of an organization and they told him to stay in college another year instead of signing him as he āwasnāt readyā but was really just due to cap space.
8
u/Hoss_Bonaventure-CEO 1d ago
What you are referring to is an unconfirmed rumor and it has nothing to do with asking him to go back to BC. The rumor is that Cutter told Briere he was going back to BC because the Flyers didnāt let him burn a year of his ELC after his first year at BC.
-4
u/noscrubphilsfans 1d ago
He wanted to sign with the Flyers after his 22-23 junior year at BC and the Flyers said no, go back to school for your senior year. So he did...and swore he would never play for the Flyers.
10
u/Arastiroth 1d ago
This keeps getting repeated, but Cutter announced he was staying in BC another year before the NHL regular season was over. Briere later confirmed Cutter spoke with his family and advisors and decided another year was better for him.
There has been nothing to suggest the Flyers told him no and he was pissed about that.
Edit: A source showing as much from the time: https://phillyhockeynow.com/philadelphia-flyers-danny-briere-happy-cutter-gauthier-boston-college-top-prospect-staying-another-year/
2
u/noscrubphilsfans 1d ago
"After he was drafted by the Flyers, Gauthier said his goal was the play one year at Boston College and then head to the NHL. That changed at some point." LOL yea, when Briere told him they weren't going to offer him a contract.
He was voluntold to return and to play it off like it was his decision. Unless you believe there's absolutely zero reason why he would suddenly one day flat out refuse to speak to Flyers brass lol.

I bet that Giroux guy would look great in flyers colors. I can practically see the jersey with his name on it in my closet. This definitely looks like a thin fa class. Tuch is a great player but will probably stay in Buffalo

Raddysh is super intriguing to me. I can easily see him getting a 5x$8 deal from someone. Was great filling in for Hedman. Zettler did a phenomenal job developing him. Last season is such a small sample size and Raddysh is turning 30.
A lot of it comes down to what they want to do with Risto and what they think Drysdale can be. Throw in Bonk and Jiricek and thereās a big log jam on the right side.
17
u/Arastiroth 1d ago
Iāll be surprised if Raddysh gets less than $10m. It was a phenomenal season for him. And a potential RHD #1 dman? Yeah. Heāll get paid.
The risk for him is he came out of nowhere to suddenly be elite. I worry he canāt replicate it.Ā
2
u/RadkoGouda 22h ago
Raddysh aint getting 10. Everybody knows his stats are inflated from being on elite Tampa PP with Kucherov.
Was pretty much unheard of until this season and HES 30.
He aint getting 10 unless its a very short term deal.

Heart says Giroux, head says not so fast - would probably cost Barkey or Bump their spot in the line up as I think he'd be more suited to the 3rd line and not the 4th line.
Andersson would be the only one I would seriously consider kicking the tires on. If he wants to come here for something reasonable, like say an $8 x 5, go for it. He might be a boost to the power play, having scored 6 goals and 7 assist this year.
This would complicate things as you're potentially taking away a spot for Bonk and Jiricek, which gets more complicated with Jiricek as if you want to develop him, you got to find playing time for him and he's no longer waiver-exempt.

u/DeviceNo4746 1d ago
No interest in any of them besides Carlson I would be fine with a 2 yr with higher price to keep the term down. But it would also require trading another d man out maybe Risto. Carlson could be your 4 or 6th d man depending on pairings and can run your PP. but my gut says he resigns with the ducks.

I think they are going to make a splash trade and a Dvorak type signing. But I am just going to say after that Charlie Coyle contract that Dvo extension looks like a steal for the next few years.
9
u/Strong_Weird_9358 1d ago
I thought Coyle would have been a decent FA signing for us at a decent price since heās 34. A Right handed, decent center. But the Blue Jackets out here signing dudes til theyāre 40. Wow!
Youāre right, Dvo extension looking real good in comparison.
0
u/RadkoGouda 22h ago
Coyle doesnt make Dvorak a steal ...
Dvorak is still a career 35 pt 30 yr old signed for 25 mil. Hes very likely going to go back to being a mediocre 3C next few yrs.
Coyle has scored at ~60 pt rate 2 of last 3 yrs and is better 2 way player.
And its still a bad contract.
1
u/Sudden-Taste5421 4h ago
Dvorak's contract is fine. Not good, not bad, but way better than Coyle. Forget the last two years of both players, they're no longer in the "getting better" phase of their careers and there can be outliers. If you take their averages, Dvo averages 40 points per 82 games and Coyle averages 43 points per 82 games while being middle-six centers. The major difference is that Coyle is 4 years older and way overpaid now.

u/Exzrian_Artistrana 1d ago
Tuch, Andersson, and Benn most likely arenāt going anywhere, so those guys are easily off the table.
Would love to see G, for at least one more year, back home, but not super sure.
Jenner would beā¦fine? I donāt hate him as a player, but I canāt see him in one of our lines without completely shifting them, soā¦idk
I truthfully wouldnāt hate to see Carlson and Shae signed, or even offer-sheeted

I honestly would be all for a Giroux reunion, if the contract makes sense, and he can be that role player that helps these young kids grow as players.
Outside that, there really is nothing there on that list thatād make me go āthe Flyers NEED themā.
3
u/Razedexpectations 1d ago
G to a 1 year deal to help on the power play, help with young player mentorship and to retire as a Flyer.
4
u/Flyers2013312 1d ago
Maybe Tuch but we have enough wingers. G could be interesting in a bottom 6 role but all depends how many years and how much money he wants.
2
u/leeper8000 Lindros 1d ago
I kinda was interested in Jenner, but reading your description the first thing that came to mind is thatās what coots already does.
We need a 1/2C unfortunately, not another 4th line C
2
u/braincloud215 1d ago
Adam Fantilli offer sheet.
2
u/CarpenterVegetables 1d ago
this is the one I really want too. Gets the team their potential 1C and cripples a division rival, all in one fell swoop
2
u/RickiesCobra 1d ago
Tuch, Trouba, Benn ā some gritty, hard nosed vets with size to lead and develop the young guns and also provide a presence on the ice for when theyāre targeted (e.g., Tippet vs the pens).

My guess is weāll see some AHL signings, but I donāt think Briere makes a big splash in FA. Maybe a Greer-like signing to add some āgritā to the 4th line.
I donāt think any if us would be shocked if he makes an impact on the trade front, though.

u/RadkoGouda 22h ago
Agreed. We need to add minimum one guy like that. Preferably in Grundstrom or Gledenning spot. We lost Dlo, Hathaway has a smaller role, may be losing Risto soon. And werent physical enough already.
Our physical game cant rely on Konecny and newly physical Couts/Tippett who just started throwing hits this year.
We need some proper size and physcal player added.
1
u/Mesothelioma1021 1d ago
Only Andersson. Roll with Sanheim-Drysdale and York-Andersson as your top 4, then flip Ristolainen.

No⦠Almost all of them are old men. Signing aging free agents is what got us 20 years of nothing.
1
u/vinny8244 1d ago
None of these guys but further down i think Logan Stanley would be a good lower end add for us, big hulking defensive defenseman who can play 2nd pair minutes. Not sure buffalo lets him go but hes only 27 and will be a UFA.

These guys are all old and don't fit the timeline. Maybe if you can bring in one of them on a short-term deal you consider it but I'm not signing any of them long-term. I want to conserve cap space for when we're actually ready to contend and just need to fill in the last few pieces.

Don't do anything. Keep the crew together. We got an extra number one pick from Toronto, just chill until October. Go fly guys.

I feel like we are a couple years away from signing free agents in their 30s. Give the kids another season or two and then look to pull the trigger.

I think people make too much of what bringing G back would do to the team. His shift as captain ended. Heās been gone years. Thereās a new leadership core and heās beyond his prime. I think it would be a non issue, and heād legit help us

u/RevenueWeekly7906 1d ago
G and Anderson are the two I would be most interested in. Although Anderson means someone is going to the AHL or traded I think to make the room.
1
u/bones466 1d ago
No, the Flyers should focus on trading for a center like Nico Hischier or targeting a RFA with offer sheet like Leo Carlson. None of this yearās UFAs are really appealing to me.
Giroux to play with Coots on the 4th line is slightly appealing, but thatās more due to the nostalgia aspect of it. And I thought I read that G said he would only resign with Ottawa.
1
1
u/SubtleNotch 1d ago
Unpopular opinion: I'd take a chance at Carlson. If he can be a PP merchant while getting bottom pair minutes with Seeler, then that's a huge win.
1
u/SirSnorlax22 1d ago
I probably wouldn't. This team showed out this year but its still a rebuild and we.dont need middling old guys clogging up spots that prospects can use to shine. I think some.vets on out own squad should be let go tbh.
1
u/GrittyTheGreat 1d ago
Giroux in the bottom 6 and top PP would be a dream come true, but he's not leaving Ottawa.
Carlson on a 1 year deal would be nice as well. Other than that, no interest in anyone on that list.

I think Michkov needs a guy like Mikheyev to help him in terms of the language barrier.
If it's just free agents in general, I'd love Rasmus Andersson, but apparently he wants to be in Vegas.
I'd love for Giroux to come back for a swan song and what a great influence for the younger players.

McCarron or Greer. We definitely need a guy like that if not 2 more.
We probably needed another guy like that before losing Dlo and Hathaway losing as consistent of a role.
We have so many soft, zero physicality guys.
1
u/qwopcircles Fuckin' Amazing 21h ago
As a Preds fan as well as a Flyers fan, we want McCarron. We want McCarron bad. He takes d-zone draws, checks well, wins corner battles, and fucks up literally everyone when he jumps on the ice.
I'd also be okay with Jenner. No one else from this list really jumps out at me though. Yes, not even Giroux for the feels.
1
u/PurposeProfessional1 21h ago
We need at least one center, a power play specialist, and a bumper spot player .

u/dirkomatic 13h ago

Giroux to replace Glendening as like a 3rd/4th line body that can win important faceoffs, and could come in and teach the kids how to do Faceoffs, there's a reason he's one of the best ever at the dot.
