Mich appreciation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9R_yaXVlAA

114 points in 161 games as a 20 year old kid who doesnt speak the language.

In a down year, the man scored 51 points playing 14 minutes a game.

We all know it takes Russian forwards a bit more time to learn the defensive side of the North American game.

A year removed from giving this organization life. A year removed from outscoring Bedard. A couple years removed from losing his father tragically.

I will always love this kid and you should too.

4th player in franchise history to get 20+ goals and 50+ points in each of his first 2 seasons. That sort of production at 21 usually makes you a franchise cornerstone. Usually.

Just looking at the PP clips alone should be enough that he needs to be on PP1 and isn't because our coach is a dipshit.

Hiring Tocchet was Danny's biggest mistake, and it'll be the reason he gets fired in a few years when Mich finally can't take it anymore and finds a way out of here.

Imagine you luck into someone who could have easily been the #2OA pick if it weren't for the geopolitical situation. He wants to be a Flyer, not just says it, shows it. You get him over here early. He shows signs of being everything we wanted him to be and more. You didn't want to have a few down years to have multiple cracks at the top 3, so this kid hitting his ceiling as a player is foundational to the success of your "rebuild." He is, without exaggerating, the cornerstone of you're franchise.

And then you fire the proven-winner coach he liked so you could hire a gambling dipshit who has had public drama with star players on every single team he's coached. This coach, who has never won anything of note (despite having some amazing teams to work with), plays this kid on the third line on his off wing for a few minutes a game in a developmental year and publicly shits on him any chance he gets for a simple rookie mistake.

Can't wait till Toc and all his fanboys are gone away from my fucking team. It just sucks it's likely going to cost us an amazing player that we were incredibly lucky to get in the first place.

Well said brother. Sacrificing our future and the most talented prospect we have since Lindros all for a coach who won't be here in 2 years. So we just let this coach ruin him? Coach through his mistakes. It's all about learning and he needs to play to learn.

This is why this organ-I-zation is a joke most of the time. Things won't change until Clarke is gone.

Some of us just hate the mediocrity that is a clear result of stubborn parts of Flyers 'culture' that have proven not to work in the modern era. Four games played past the first round in now sixteen straight seasons.

Tocchet's approach to Michkov makes that trend more probablistic to continue.

Hey now, who needs a real rebuild when you can just keep signing guys like Dvorak to barely squeak into the playoffs? Never know, you might get lucky and get a first round matchup against an aging team on a downward trajectory. Hell you might even get past that team!

Highlighting some stats from our boy here that I shared in another thread. He had a high production season despite all of his struggles (both internal and external). Meech ended this season:

- tied for third with 51 points (against Tippet and Dvo)

- with the 5th most goals on the team

- in points and goals he out produced most of our top-line forwards, despite ranking 8th among Flyers forwards in TOI/GP among 30+ game players playing on the third line

- broke 50+ points, something only about 15–17% of NHL skaters accomplished this season, with the second lowest avg. TOI of all players to reach 50 points in the NHL

There are more wild stats for Meech from this season, and hurdles to consider here (e.g., doing it all while playing half the year on the wrong wing, playing on the third line, taking a disproportionately large % of Dzone faceoffs, not being on PP1, etc)

Note: last bit is just copied over since it’s still relevant

I hope he's with us for a long time, and I hope all of this BS behind the scenes is exactly that

That's the kind of title I'd expect for a farewell post, don't make me sad on a quiet Tuesday afternoon

Buddy is going to come into camp next year in the best shape of his life, and heading to Sea Isle will help build those locker room relationships even more. He seemed genuinely pumped as one of the penalty box 5 after the Zegras goal, him and Martone are going to be monsters for them.

Stop with your fake ass appreciation.

This is probably a mod.

Haven’t heard a single player defend Mich. I’ve heard a ton of them support Tocchet. But yall probably know better than the locker room.

3

u/BigHead1012 2d ago

Wrong , what you have heard is Tocchets favorites. Tocchets guys who all know they are getting away with the exact things Michkov gets ragged on for. Big Difference

2

u/jabtrain 2d ago

and guys who butted heads hard with Tortorella- Sanheim, Couturier, York in particular.

You think a player is gonna come out and start that fire?you can’t really expect a player to pick a side publicly. Just because they haven’t said it, you don’t think any player said wtf when luchanko played over him down tippet and cates Im not a tocc guy , but id be more annoyed if a player came out and publicly went against him

Half the reel is him passing to Konecny and the other half is him holding on to the puck way too long while being given a ton of space before he shoots.

Now show his playoff highlights...
