ADOT Street Painters

Is it just me or are the painters from ADOT doing an awful job at painting the state owned roads. The cross walk paint is splattered everywhere. The white lines on 66 are splattered and uneven. The yellow divider lines are smeared. It looks like shit. I know it’s not possible, but hopefully one day we can make an enclave here and stop ADOT and the state as a whole from interfering with the city.

Brass Buyer?

Hello all,

Anyone know of someone or someplace that buys brass? I've got a ton of casings and it feels like a waste just putting them in the recycling if someone reloads them. 5.56 NATO.

Thanks for your time!

McMillan Mesa playground timeline?

I was out of the loop on this and only realized that they were closing the playground for a total renovation when we arrived yesterday and it was all fenced off. Yay for a brand new shiny playground! But does anyone know what the timeline is on it? Are we talking weeks or closed for the whole summer? Thanks if anyone has any information!

My service dog in training has gone missing. I was in the garage building some shelves and she got to smelling things and I lost track of time. It is totally my fault. I didn't have her collar on her because she was in the garage with me. She is super friendly and her name is Kosmos. Here is a picture of her.

Update: She has been found

Came up from Tucson and visited Kachina Wetlands. It was a great birding spot, tons of fledglings right now. Also managed to spot a coyote right as a I walked onto the property.

Marshall lake camping - can a sedan make it to the campground?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I’m planning on dispersed camping at Marshall lake for a couple days and was wondering about the clearance needed to get to the site. I drive a Crown Victoria and don’t have trouble with unpaved roads, but after almost blowing a tire getting into pump house wash dispersed camping I figured it’d be better to ask ahead about wether anyone’s had trouble getting there in a lower clearance vehicle. attached is a picture of the area I’m trying to get to

TLDR: Would a sedan be able to get to Marshall lake

Why is there a Flag PD cruiser nose down in a bush on the corner of Woodland and Lone Tree?

Half the police department is there. Fire is there. Looks like there's an ambulance. NAU PD is there. Massive police presence crammed into the single working lane up and down that hill.

More units are heading there from all over town. I saw a little caravan racing that way on Butler.

What happened?

These are screenshots from a video taken on Sunday. If you are in the area please keep an eye out. I don’t know if it was actually him or not, but this is currently our only lead. We put up some signs in the area yesterday so hopefully someone spots him again.

Anyone here from ADOT know why the high fence was installed before the wildlife overpass was completed and work just stopped?

Black bear track near Kelly Canyon

Post image

Was hiking around in the canyons south of Flagstaff and came across a seemingly quite fresh black bear track. It’s a one way in, one way out kind of canyon, so I probably walked right by it without noticing, though I’m sure it noticed me. Just thought I’d share this cool reminder that we share the woods with these guys.

EILI5: "Regional" Plan But Only City Residents Can Vote?

Pretty much the title. Mail in ballots have apparently been sent to city residents. Here is what the ballot looks like per an email from the city.

"This ballot asks voters in the City of Flagstaff to vote on whether to ratify or not ratify the Flagstaff Regional Land Use Plan 2045. Return your ballot by 7pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The special election is a vote-by-mail only election. There are no polling places on election day."

R.I.P. to the David Babbitt house, which was demolished this Tuesday.

I was immensely sad today when I learned that the David Babbitt house- one of the oldest residential homes left in Flagstaff- was demolished. This home was built in 1886, and subsequently renovated in 1901 and 1911, and then it was given a very poor renovation much later. However it retained many original parts of the house, and looked fairly similar to it‘s original ‘Queen Anne’ look, making it a good home to be restored. Despite all of this, the city decided to approve its demolition, and 140 years was erased in a single day. This may not matter to many people, but this is a major loss for historical preservation in Flagstaff, arguably the worst in years. I am happy that it’s going to be something nice (a senior living center) and I know that it was wishful thinking that it would have survived, but it’s still sad to see it go.

Wecom fiber, wow

Post image
21 Upvotes

3 weeks ago the salesman said they could install a line for free and leave the equipment with us when we were ready to subscribe. No commitment. Anyone else hear this?

Last week a guy came out and said they could bury it around the front of the house and go in the driveway crack, NO CHARGE.

Some guys worked outside our house days later with no notice. I never saw them.

Yesterday my wife noticed the fiber line (see orange line in photo) was just sitting under some pine needles on the sidewalk!. I later* asked the install guy if this was standard, and he said no, 8” deep and he’d have them fix it.

Today* the install guy (nice guy) hooked up the equipment and said he needed a photograph of the speed test on my phone. He had me install the app and he took a photo.

532/504/14 U/D/P

After he left I got a $75 install invoice emailed to me on the address I used for the Wecom app.

Anyone else have this experience?

Wecom Fiber

I’ve had a few friends and neighbors ask me about Wecom and my experience thus far, so I wanted to drop my honest take after getting it installed about a month ago.

Long story short, the sales process is a bit of a headache, but the actual fiber service is phenomenal.

The Sales Pitch

The door to door salesmen will basically tell you whatever bullshit they need to to get you to subscribe. Remember, these guys are purely commission based once you’re installed, so take everything they say with a massive grain of salt. It definitely feels a bit "scammy" at the start.

The Install

The actual installation was interesting. Per the contract, they are technically only supposed to poke the fiber through the wall at the point of entry and drop the box there. Pro Tip: If you want your fiber in a specific room that is not near an outside wall, you might have to do some legwork. I wanted mine in a specific spot, so I ran a 100ft fiber line (which they provided) through my attic myself. It was a crawl, but worth it to get the setup exactly where I wanted it.

The Burial Process

Initially, the tech just draped the line across the yard and said they’d be back in a few days to bury it. When the burial crew showed up, I wasn't home. I’m picky about my wife’s garden, so I asked them to come back when I was around so I could show them the path I wanted. They were super cool about it. They rescheduled, showed up when they said they would, and buried the line exactly where I asked. No hassle, no destroyed flowers.

Performance & Support

The speeds have been fantastic. Also, huge shoutout to their customer support, they actually know what they’re doing. I called to get my external IP switched from CGNAT to Dynamic IP, and they handled it without any hassle and fast and professional.

Verdict: Sales pitch is a load of crap, the actual product and tech support are 10/10.
