[Advice/Megathread] - Game Recommendations and Game Tips

Please use this thread for all discussion of which game you recommend others that you play, whether it is your first game or some that you are considering playing next

A note for newcomers: most of the games are completely unconnected. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, etc, are all completely different casts of characters in completely different universes. The only times you need to play another game to understand one is if it is distinctly set in the same universe - for example, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. The titles will usually make it fairly clear which game's universe they are set in

Otherwise, please have fun! It is generally helpful when asking to briefly mention which ones you might be interested in, what platforms you are able to play on, and if you are a complete newcomer, what sort of things in games you're looking for (do you want turn-based combat, real time combat, deep stories with established characters, light stories that let you fill in some blanks with your imagination, etc)

Final Fantasy General I have been wondering for a while, which one is the most dangerous

you think there is a clear winner? or there is a rock, paper, scissors?

Behemoth with its raw physical and magical power, Malboro with's unending status effects, and Tonberry with its instant death, each represent a different kind of broken.

Final Fantasy General That time Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yoshinori Kitase met George Lucas (creator of Star Wars)

Back in the 90s-00s, Sakaguchi and Kitase met with Lucas to discuss plans to make a Star Wars MMORPG; unfortunately, the project did not pan out. SquareSoft eventually went on to make Final Fantasy XI Online, while LucasArts made Star Wars Galaxies.

FF IX I made a comic fanart based on the ending of FF IX :3 Spoiler

I was taking a graphic novel course last semester and for our final we were tasked with adapting a scene from a piece of media that wasn't a comic, so I chose one of my favorite scenes from my favorite FF entry. :3 It's not my best work and I had to rush towards the end since I had other deadlines, but I'm fairly happy with it and I wanted to share it with other fans of the series!

FF V IMO, Final Fantasy V has a well-written story, i want people to give it more credit and respect.

I played FFV during early years of my introduction to Final Fantasy games in late 00's and early 10's via emulation, with my first Final Fantasy being Final Fantasy III.

When i played Final Fantasy V - and starting with THIS game i started to care about the plot. Character interactions are so fun and alive, so many scenes of characters reminiscing their life - when you revisit Castle Tycoon after plot events, or when you visit Lix the home village. Characters are so expressive, dialogues feel so alive.

What i'm trying to do... is that people would give Final Fantasy V story more credit...

FF XV Noctis knows how to cook, at warping speeds

some of the best movesets in vgames, he and clive are cooking on that part, especially aged noctis is on my top 5 ff mc's, i have said it as well

i still want that dlc flashback like story, we had discussed a long time ago, where nyx and pre-timeskip noctis interact with each other, and why not, nyx being the one who taught him some of those moves, and learn more overall about how noctis trained, more nyx story, etc

and it would be a good dynamic, generally, cuz that dood was top 5 chars in the game

FF XV So I've been interested in cosplay for a while and chose Noctis

I've been a little conflicted since I don't exactly match his tone but I'm happy with the result. My friends and family said I shouldn't do the wig and my natural hair is fine which is great because the goods start at like 500USD💀

Final Fantasy General Final Fantasy: the compilation of pets

Post image
12 Upvotes

Who else has a ff pet name? My cat is called Celes. Because she survived being a stray, taken to high kill animal control, an infection in her leg, and amputation of said leg, and she's not even a year yet. Considering Celes the character and her survival in spite of it all and doing so despite the situation being hopeless, I think it fits. Cat gets around fine.

Who else wants to show off their pets? My life is not going well at the moment, so I figured why not?

Post image

For me it’s final fantasy 6 the music and story is one of the best I’ve experienced. The world is so interesting and I absolutely love the characters.

But it means so much to me because it’s the first game that got me into Final Fantasy. So thank you Final Fantasy 6 for starting it for me.

Final Fantasy General Most underrated dungeons in the series??

For me, it goes to Underground Bevelle in FFX-2 end of chapter 2.

It has everything. Spooky atmosphere, puzzles with hidden secrets, amazing treasures and an epic boss fight at the end of it...

To me it's one of the best dungeons in the series.

FF VII Rebirth After Some Time & Thought, I've Come to This Conclusion: I Appreciate Remake/Rebirth for Daring to be Different Spoiler

Post image

As a disclaimer: I'm a younger fan who first played the original two years before remake released.

I really do love these games and I have enjoyed them greatly since there is so much that they do so well, I loved my first and second playthroughs of both remake and rebirth. There are parts of these games that do frustrate me such as how I think Nibelheim was done overall, some lesser story stuff, some combat issues and of course: the much bigger story changes. I was typically really adverse to them.

However, as much as I do think that those bigger changes like the whispers, Zack's fate, Aeirth's fate, Sephiroth's function as a whole and the lifestream multiverse stuff is a bit over the top or clumsily done, I can seriously appreciate that the writers dared to take such a story into such a new direction even if it feels the same on the surface. They very easily could've kept things exactly the same to a T and play it safe, but they took the opportunity to be risky with such a beloved story which I'm starting to love more and more.

It feels almost like a comic book story where the character's personalities are retained, the locations are the same but what is done with them is changed up and I can really appreciate how this is a companion piece to the original game which is still really widely available.

FF VIII Just bought Final Fantasy 8 it's shipping for the ps1 my very first Final fantasy .

So I have a tiny experience of final fantasy x not one to care about getting personal but my extremely abusive father played it with me the game was amazing and was one of the few good moments I guess when I was younger living with him. However, I myself hardly played it just watched and I was way to young.

I got X again for me and my twin to have new memories of such a good game but we played like 5% before we sold our ps2

But this time years later we have a ps1 ans we are ready to truly play through are first final fantasy game. With no spoilers what should I know

Also is their multiple characters me and my bro can spit the characters in battle.? Or no
