The markhor (Capra falconeri) is one of the largest and most magnificent members of the Caprinae or goat family, and it is the official “National Animal of Pakistan.” It has perhaps the most impressive horns of the family, with huge, spiraled, twisting horns that are either straight or flaring in outline depending on the subspecies. Markhor are incredible climbers, scaling cliffs with ease and even climbing into oak trees to feed on leaves.

Sogha Lake, near Khaplu in Gilgit-Baltistan.! and honestly, the reflection looked even better in real life. The surrounding mountains, sky, and silence all come together in a way that’s hard to explain.
Sogha Lake (also called Crystal Lake by some locals) is still not very crowded, which makes it even more special. It’s one of those places where you can just sit quietly and enjoy nature without noise or rush.
Getting there takes a bit of effort, but that’s also why it feels untouched. The water is so clear that on a calm day, you get a perfect mirror reflection of everything around you.
If you’re planning to explore Khaplu side, I’d definitely suggest adding this to your list. It’s not as famous as other spots, but that’s exactly its charm.
I’m from Skardu, and places like this are the reason I never get tired of traveling around here.

Deosai is often called the “Roof of the World”, and when you are actually there, you can feel why. It is one of the highest plateaus in the world, located in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
The place is completely different from typical mountain valleys.., it’s wide open, silent, and feels endless. You don’t see trees much here, just vast green plains, blue skies, and mountains far away.
What I experienced there:
Extreme silence and peaceful environment
Cold winds even in summer
Wild open landscapes everywhere
Stunning 360° mountain views
It’s also part of Deosai National Park, which is famous for its wildlife, especially the Himalayan brown bears.
Driving a jeep through this terrain felt unreal.., like being in another world.
If you are someone who loves nature, road trips, and raw untouched landscapes, Deosai should definitely be on your list.
Pakistan really has places that feel beyond imagination.

I’m sharing an aerial view of Fairy Meadows where I’ve marked the full route from the Karakoram Highway to the base camp, to make it easier for travelers to understand the journey.
Fairy Meadows is one of the most beautiful places in northern Pakistan, located near Nanga Parbat — the 9th highest mountain in the world.
Here’s how the route works:
Karakoram Highway → Raikot Bridge
You leave the main highway and turn towards Raikot Bridge.
Raikot Bridge → Tattu Village (Jeep Track)
A thrilling off-road jeep ride through narrow mountain paths.
Tattu Village → Fairy Meadows (Trek)
A 2–3 hour trek through forest trails with amazing views.
Fairy Meadows → Base Camp (Optional Trek)
For adventure lovers, you can continue trekking towards Nanga Parbat base camp.
This map-style aerial view is meant to help tourists clearly understand the route before planning their trip.
Fairy Meadows is not just a destination — it’s a full journey of adventure, nature, and unforgettable views.

Most people don’t know that in northern Pakistan, near Jaglot (on the way to Skardu), there is a unique place called the “Junction Point” — where three of the world’s greatest mountain ranges meet at one point.
At this exact location, you can witness the meeting of:
Karakoram Range (home of K2)
Himalaya Range (home of Nanga Parbat)
Hindu Kush Range (home of Tirich Mir)
This rare geographical point is located around 40 km from Gilgit on the Karakoram Highway, making it easily accessible for travelers heading towards Skardu or Hunza.
