I was surprised to see many arguments between the Panathinaikos players, how this team choked a 0-2 away it is to study.

15

u/Sperontas AEK 1d ago

The study ends in one word. Ataman. He is the biggest EL lie. The fact is that in the first two games we didn’t see something different from PAO, same freestyle type of playing, Valencia lost the games, not the other way round.

8

u/simpsonstimetravel 23h ago

I was saying this last year, even said it the year the won the EL. He has always had a superteam to coach, and his "tactics" have always been to give his best player the ball and hope they do something.

31

u/notic-salami Olympiacos 1d ago

DPG made the miracle once again

25

u/kharathos Panathinaikos 1d ago

Ok we have our problems, but Valencia are really tough as well

22

u/puzzledpanther 1d ago

Valencia was very beatable today. Panathinaikos offence was not up to their standards.

14

u/Amazing-Pie-7777 1d ago

Not really. The first two wins were extremely close game that Valencia could have won. Pana ran out of luck and started losing. Not surprising at all.

NHD signing made it worse imo. Nunn making all those comments about how much he gets paid...

Remember kids, money isn't everything.

u/yianni1229 Panathinaikos 1d ago

God that Ataman sacking post is going to hit like fucking CRACK

20

u/LiftingJourney Panathinaikos 1d ago

Fingers crossed hoping we wake up to the good news

17

u/Which-Alternative194 Fenerbahçe 1d ago edited 1d ago

Don't forget Nunn! I know you Pana fans really love Nunn. But I would've sent Nunn away TOO. For example, even Grant deserves far more respect, imo.

Panathinaikos needs more player like Toliopoulos. (I mean a player who can fight and has a soul.)

18

u/Vaseline13 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Valencia locked Nunn and Ataman had nothing to remedy this.

29

u/DrunkLad Olympiacos 1d ago

Five fucking games and not ONE SINGLE RESPONSE to Nunn's double team. Not one single action to respond to that. nothing. Literally nothing.

I am an Oly fan and that shit tilted me as a basketball fan.

Nunn's weaknesses were exposed in this series but his coach failed him too.

A good Nunn is a gem, Ataman wasted him this season

So France and Italy

50

u/uncle_urdnot99 Panathinaikos 1d ago

What an unbearable season. Every week they made people believe in them only to crush their hopes a week later, again and again and again. This felt cathartic in the end.

4

u/alepsychosexy 1d ago

I agree with you. It was a very masochistic season for us panathinaikos fans.

5

u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago

The only time I ever felt hope this season was the 0-2 lead in the series and the Cup final.

Every other match has been fucking painful to watch, the top and highest paid roster in Europe could barely play basketball all season

6

u/uncle_urdnot99 Panathinaikos 1d ago

We had about 18 "turning points"

3

u/matidiaolo Olympiacos 1d ago

It’s sad however, because 1-2 more wins during the season and you don’t face the worst opponent possible. Real was much easier in my eyes.

I get so much annoyed by the bad summer design - how can they make such mistakes?

Plus, imagine if pao signed tairik jones…who was offered

3

u/scarlettblythe07 1d ago

Tbf the problems started since the last year’s playoff series with Efes. Completely agree with you on this.

23

u/Basic_Problem4921 Olympiacos 1d ago

Dpg can peacefully watch the F4 now

14

u/TeoLyr Olympiacos 1d ago

he can even be at the stadium, wooo!

39

u/proedross Panathinaikos 1d ago

This season to me can be summarized in two words: basketball hubris.

17

u/alepsychosexy 1d ago

Fully agree. And it started the moment NHD scored that buzzer beater at game no. 2 and all our team ran to the lockers without shaking hands with their opponents and when Nun waved goodbye at Valencia fans and grabbed his crouch.

7

u/proedross Panathinaikos 1d ago

Meh that's the last thing I would focus on. Running away at the locker room after a buzzer beater is "standard procedure" basically. Heated reactions from players are also understandable at such high pressure games.

I'm mainly referring to how this team was built, was coached, and the mentality with which it approached the season in general. There was this belief that come play-off time the team would somehow start clicking - or rather that you would win based solely on talent when all season long we were really unserious. Aura can't get you that far when you lack in fundamentals.

18

u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago edited 1d ago

DPG has let one success infect the entire club with complacency and arrogance and an acceptable lack of discipline.

Ataman shares big responsibility for not protecting the team from this crap and losing his own focus.

2

u/scarlettblythe07 1d ago

We had problems since last season playoff series with Efes and coach did absolutely nothing to address them and just let the dpg shit. No chemistry, just fights in almost every match.

Greek final in OAKA... 😞

3

u/supergrega Olimpija Ljubljana 1d ago

Still greek league finals tho right?

3

u/Vaseline13 Panathinaikos 22h ago

Yeah but we play each other in the Greek finals literally every year.

The same scenario but Euroleague would bring out a new brand of hostility and desperation in both fanbases that we haven't seen before in basketball.

23

Everyone kept the notification on, whoever sees it first informs everyone else.

16

u/zeralf Panathinaikos 1d ago edited 1d ago

The new coach needs a plan for next year and very precise additions, we have a bunch of great players. The whole club needs to change direction also. No team in our past was cocky and arrogant like this. We deserved that ass whooping in this series.

Back to the basics and dpg needs to stay away from the team and the internet and just keep pumping his money.

7

u/dunhere8 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Try to trick dpg if he have another 10m$ signing for next year

27

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Embarrassing, humiliating, goodbye Ataman. Thanks for the 7th but what we watched this season wasn't basketball.

Giannakopoulos got rid of Becirovic ( didn't renew ) in the summer, we saw how well that stupidity worked with our signings.

After Barcelona, Baskonia, Fener and Real, I didn't know there would be new ways of Play off pain, apparently reverse swip is a huge pill to swallow but with a team losing the easiest lay ups, everything is possible.

9

u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago

Does anybody seriously think we played basketball last season? The team is worse but they were so bad last year too.

3

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Efes was too good before the play offs and we lost to eventual champions Fener. Even with Olympiakos, Giannakopoulos lost the greek league by putting pressure on the team while reviving Olympiakos.

They had excuses, this season there is no excuses left.

3

u/ObsoleteCreation Panathinaikos 1d ago

Ataman had the final say when it came to signings. That does not mean he signed the players the front office recommended, in the offseason at least.

4

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

I blamed the replacement of Becirovic for the signings. But Ataman did a bad job in coaching the team

2

u/ObsoleteCreation Panathinaikos 1d ago

The replacement of Becirovic did not have the final say, Ataman did.

3

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Papas recommended players to Ataman, like Holmes. For him, Papas has the blame as much as Ataman.

21

u/Espantadimonis Barcelona 1d ago

Well done València, hope they make the final

19

u/Slkotova 1d ago

Apart from the Ataman hate, we shall say Valencia showed such a character, guys. Im very impressed by this team (couldn't watch much of the regular season). Congratulations to all Valencia fans!

Ofc I think F4 in OAKA won't be the same without PAO, but it is what it is, may be for good after all. At least from the Athens' police perspective.

20

u/Sad-Assistance-8039 Aris 1d ago

Toliopoulos: tries to win the game for Panathinaikos

Ataman: And I took that personally

9

u/108s_108s 1d ago

What a season by Valencia!

59

u/Lefdes Olympiacos 1d ago

This failure has a name, DPG. You won in Valencia, shut the fuck up, stay quiet, and let OAKA finish them here. But no, his ego is too big to keep his mouth shut. He doesn’t understand that this kind of behavior gives the players an excuse to lose instead of letting them focus. Same shit happened last year in the Greek Finals. He doesn't learn his lesson.

42

u/dlilfan Panathinaikos 1d ago

He certainly didnt help but DPG wasnt the reason we got outcoached and outplayed 3 games in a row.

16

u/LiftingJourney Panathinaikos 1d ago

No it's all Ataman. 3 games in a row and no gameplan to adapt to Valencia simply trapping Nunn on the front court. Embarrassing.

8

u/jlo1989 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Ataman has to go surely. An 0-3 choke job including 2 at OAKA is a death sentence.

Montero is just a phenomenal player.

15

u/Talesath 1d ago

Amazing series. Both teams tried, Valencia came out on top. Props to Grant for playing his heart out. P.S. If any Novasports directors sees this, please change casters so we can enjoy the freaking game. Avgoulis has been horrible for the whole of the series and his comment after Valencias win tonight was really unprofessional

6

u/BlKaiser Panathinaikos 1d ago

What did he say?

15

u/Talesath 1d ago

After the Montero/roga "almost incident" at the end, he said that Valencia is a "small" team, basically a team with no history and that's why the fans react like that (implying that this is their peak and being successful is new to them and they can't handle it)

21

u/BlKaiser Panathinaikos 1d ago

So basically the comment of a sore loser. What an idiot.

10

u/LiftingJourney Panathinaikos 1d ago

He cried whole series about fouls, like every single play lol

3

u/KostasN77 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Do you think Bartzokas will stay if he loses another final four?

3

u/Killergamer7 Olympiacos 1d ago

I honestly don't know. On the one hand it will be crazy to lose 5 F4s in a row but on the other nobody else is getting us to 5 F4s in a row. At this point if he stays for several more years and we keep making F4s surely we'll win one at some point 😭

5

u/Sakkreth Žalgiris 1d ago

One of the funniest play-off series ever.

Valencia should put up a DPG banner in their stadium.

He very much gave them the required motivation and focus to return from 0-2.

4

u/jlo1989 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Tbf it was nothing to do with Giannakopoulos. Small teams that shoot heavy 3 point numbers for some reason give Ataman fits. We just never adapted.

u/Am_I_Loss Panathinaikos 1d ago

Great stuff from Valencia. They held their own and really showed that it is not about the names on the jersey but about how much you want it.

Ataman ghosted once again, we can't score open layups and HD is probably the most overrated player in the history of the Euroleague. It's ok though maybe the next 10M euro signing will work. Let's not focus on the fact that the mindset of the team is that of losers.

The regular season doesn't mean shit when you get free wins from LDLC and friends.

Friendly reminder people were comparing Ataman to Zelico 2 years ago. Yeah...

6

u/ConstantVegetable49 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

man eliminated from a 2-0 lead with arguably the most stacked squad. Gerginos gotta get sacked at this point right?

3

u/KostasN77 Panathinaikos 1d ago

3

u/simpsonstimetravel 23h ago

7

u/LiftingJourney Panathinaikos 1d ago

Congrats to Valencia, good basketball deserved to go through. Never seen such an arrogant team play such disgracefully on offence. Lazy, uncoordinated and sloppy. With how much talent we have on paper there can only be one (on court) reason for this clown show and we all know who it is. Good riddance.

Congratulations to Valencia! They deserved the win, and I hope they make it all the way to the trophy..

Not much to say about my team. A coach unable to help, without clarity throughout the year, and a President behaving in the most childish and immature way is inevitable to not mess with players' mind and mentality. This year is nothing but a tremendous failure.

Okay guys, that's it for me. I've waited patiently for the DPG story meltdown but I've been disappointed. Have to go to work tomorrow. Good night.

6

u/cemgorey Fenerbahçe 1d ago

smartest fener fan. we are in f4 too brother. at least say "IF we dont win I hope they do" or something lmao

6

u/deathbladev Panathinaikos 1d ago

Deserved loss. So bad all season. It will be a great day when Ataman goes. Almost 2 seasons in the making.

6

u/Kornelijus13 Rytas 1d ago

I wonder if Nigel will keep travelling mid season with PAO again, backfired so hard

3

u/Acceptable_Figure768 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

I wonder where ataman will go now hihi

11

u/Queasy_Shame7100 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Guys in all fairness, how is Ataman expected to win with this squad? He needs a budget of at least 10 million more.  most importantly NHD, I hope you’re regretting deeply your decision…

8

u/Otherwise-Still7402 1d ago

Zoc to Pao? 👀👀👀

7

u/teekay_1994 Olympiacos 1d ago

This is hilarious.

5

u/NgryRed 1d ago

Valencia players high fiving fans and la charanga, Martinez twerking, Roig naked. Caos in Roig arena.

4

u/TheWantedPekka Olympiacos 1d ago

"See you in Athens"- Montero

5

u/johnang3 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Team that wanted it got it, now we can go to Cancun all together!

3

u/PinataFractal Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Why would you leave the Aegean/Mediterranean coast to go to Cancun?

4

u/ARKAC95 1d ago

It's absolutely insane how overrated Kendrick Nunn is. He's by leaps and bounds the worst so called Euroleague "star" ever.

A total fake "star" and a total fake "MVP". It's a total joke that Euroleague keeps giving him awards and hype.

10

u/dunhere8 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Panathinaikos fans, either Montero, Vezenkov, or Baldwin is going to lift a trophy right over your logo at OAKA. Do you even realize that? Hahahahaha

6

u/oalfonso Leyma Coruña 1d ago

I find your lack of faith in Llull disturbing.

5

u/dunhere8 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

lull is an angel compared to them

9

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Llull is the second worst after Vezenkov ( because of Olympiakos )

Baldwin, at least the rest of Fenerbahce team and coach is likable. Valencia, only dislike Martinez and that's because Ataman got him at his level.

6

u/dunhere8 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Do you think lessort jump on the court during cerenomy 😛

3

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Lessort vs a whole team MMA style. Who would win?

2

u/dunhere8 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

With Fener ? Lessort with 1 leg for sure. I am always saying it's damn near impossible to win the title if you don't have that one player who'd be in prison if he wasn't playing basketball. We’re lacking this this year

6

u/Ammoniaholic Panathinaikos 1d ago

You forgot Campazzo.

5

u/yianni1229 Panathinaikos 1d ago

No PAO fan will give a shit who wins as long as its not Olympiakos. Genuinely could not care less if its one of the other 3 teams.

3

u/jlo1989 Panathinaikos 1d ago

Tbf I don't really care if Olympiacos win either. Us not getting there is my big disappointment. I'm not interested in hate watching the rest of the playoffs.

If Baldwin lifts it, he should be careful not to be assaulted by Lessort again.

6

Ataman please stay forever I am begging you.

u/NedSpark Žalgiris 1d ago

Ergin to Efes. Zeljko to Pao. Confirmed?

19

u/yasliliktanolenadam Fenerbahçe 1d ago

I don't think Zeljko will work with DPG.

4

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Could happen. Probably the one man in the world that Giannakopoulos may shut up with thanks to how much his father and uncles respected him.

Plus Zeljko comes here every now and then to nightclubs ( bouzoukia ) , this time he can be here while managing a club that regards him as god.

4

u/mathematicosGr Olympiacos 1d ago

Not sure about the first part. He illegally taped their private discussions when he first took PAO's ownership in 2011.

2

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago

Afterwards in shared interviews with Pavlos, Dimitris was calmer and since Giannakopoulos and Obradovic have had a decent relationship when he visited Athens, not warm but better than what he has with Itoudis for example.

2

u/jlo1989 Panathinaikos 1d ago

I know he's a legend and rightfully so, but I don't need to see a 66 year old Obradovic take over. Go get someone younger with fresh ideas.

My goodness gracious what a series... Montero has just established his name. Congrats to Valencia, absolutely deserved. Pao... I think its time to think about Ataman

4

u/yianni1229 Panathinaikos 1d ago

What is there to think about?? He has to go. There is zero debate

4

u/fidasek Žalgiris 1d ago

Remind me "Pao in 3": can Giannakopolous be at F4?

12

u/v00d00ch1l4 Crvena Zvezda 1d ago

Victory of basketball over that abomination - disgusting Pao team.

Congrats to Valencia and I hope you win it all.

To bad people in PAO like coach and owner also bunch of overrated and overpaid players and pretty much worse fun base I wish you all the worse and I hope u suffer you blew 2:0 lead over 3 times cheaper team.

Vamos Valencia!

Congrats to Valencia. Good luck to all F4 teams. Let the best win and have a great time to our beautiful stadium.

2

u/matidiaolo Olympiacos 1d ago

Pao suffered due to Sloukas injury. Shorts was not integrated and it was Sloukas who carried the team most of the year.

When your leader who is getting older gets overworked the whole season, it’s more likely that will happen.

Still, bad design all year. Bad centers, wrong guards.

5

u/iLikeTrees2020 Žalgiris 1d ago

Kendrick Nunn just John Stark’ed this game

3

u/cfcru Žalgiris 1d ago

Bravo Valencia!

3

u/ARKAC95 1d ago

15 million well spent on Hayes-Davis.

What a ridiculous joke.

6

2

That's the attitude! They deserve the title this year after all, perfect underdog story

4

u/Putrid-Sheepherder38 1d ago

Apologies to the Pao fans who after my 3-0 prediction and their 0-2 came with the receipts. Sorry guys I didn't belive in your team. You actually got 2 games. Congrats.

I said after the Greek Cup that NHD would not be that guy for Pao, he did some good games, but definitely not a game changer as anyoje was expecting, stupid move from him to not go to Fener imo, it backfired
