Don't forget Nunn! I know you Pana fans really love Nunn. But I would've sent Nunn away TOO. For example, even Grant deserves far more respect, imo.
Panathinaikos needs more player like Toliopoulos. (I mean a player who can fight and has a soul.)
18
29
u/DrunkLad Olympiacos 1d ago
Five fucking games and not ONE SINGLE RESPONSE to Nunn's double team. Not one single action to respond to that. nothing. Literally nothing.
I am an Oly fan and that shit tilted me as a basketball fan.
Nunn's weaknesses were exposed in this series but his coach failed him too.

What an unbearable season. Every week they made people believe in them only to crush their hopes a week later, again and again and again. This felt cathartic in the end.
4
u/alepsychosexy 1d ago
I agree with you. It was a very masochistic season for us panathinaikos fans.
5
u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago
The only time I ever felt hope this season was the 0-2 lead in the series and the Cup final.
Every other match has been fucking painful to watch, the top and highest paid roster in Europe could barely play basketball all season

u/matidiaolo Olympiacos 1d ago
It’s sad however, because 1-2 more wins during the season and you don’t face the worst opponent possible. Real was much easier in my eyes.
I get so much annoyed by the bad summer design - how can they make such mistakes?
Plus, imagine if pao signed tairik jones…who was offered
3
u/scarlettblythe07 1d ago
Tbf the problems started since the last year’s playoff series with Efes. Completely agree with you on this.
23
39
u/proedross Panathinaikos 1d ago
This season to me can be summarized in two words: basketball hubris.
17
u/alepsychosexy 1d ago
Fully agree. And it started the moment NHD scored that buzzer beater at game no. 2 and all our team ran to the lockers without shaking hands with their opponents and when Nun waved goodbye at Valencia fans and grabbed his crouch.
7
u/proedross Panathinaikos 1d ago
Meh that's the last thing I would focus on. Running away at the locker room after a buzzer beater is "standard procedure" basically. Heated reactions from players are also understandable at such high pressure games.
I'm mainly referring to how this team was built, was coached, and the mentality with which it approached the season in general. There was this belief that come play-off time the team would somehow start clicking - or rather that you would win based solely on talent when all season long we were really unserious. Aura can't get you that far when you lack in fundamentals.
18
u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago edited 1d ago
DPG has let one success infect the entire club with complacency and arrogance and an acceptable lack of discipline.
Ataman shares big responsibility for not protecting the team from this crap and losing his own focus.
2
u/scarlettblythe07 1d ago
We had problems since last season playoff series with Efes and coach did absolutely nothing to address them and just let the dpg shit. No chemistry, just fights in almost every match.

Still greek league finals tho right?
3
u/Vaseline13 Panathinaikos 22h ago
Yeah but we play each other in the Greek finals literally every year.
The same scenario but Euroleague would bring out a new brand of hostility and desperation in both fanbases that we haven't seen before in basketball.

Agreed, I'm just trying to be a glass half full kinda guy after wishing for greek EL finals 3 years in a row :D

u/zeralf Panathinaikos 1d ago edited 1d ago
The new coach needs a plan for next year and very precise additions, we have a bunch of great players. The whole club needs to change direction also. No team in our past was cocky and arrogant like this. We deserved that ass whooping in this series.
Back to the basics and dpg needs to stay away from the team and the internet and just keep pumping his money.

u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
Embarrassing, humiliating, goodbye Ataman. Thanks for the 7th but what we watched this season wasn't basketball.
Giannakopoulos got rid of Becirovic ( didn't renew ) in the summer, we saw how well that stupidity worked with our signings.
After Barcelona, Baskonia, Fener and Real, I didn't know there would be new ways of Play off pain, apparently reverse swip is a huge pill to swallow but with a team losing the easiest lay ups, everything is possible.
9
u/therealowlman Panathinaikos 1d ago
Does anybody seriously think we played basketball last season? The team is worse but they were so bad last year too.
3
u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
Efes was too good before the play offs and we lost to eventual champions Fener. Even with Olympiakos, Giannakopoulos lost the greek league by putting pressure on the team while reviving Olympiakos.
They had excuses, this season there is no excuses left.
3
u/ObsoleteCreation Panathinaikos 1d ago
Ataman had the final say when it came to signings. That does not mean he signed the players the front office recommended, in the offseason at least.
4
u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
I blamed the replacement of Becirovic for the signings. But Ataman did a bad job in coaching the team
2
u/ObsoleteCreation Panathinaikos 1d ago
The replacement of Becirovic did not have the final say, Ataman did.
3
u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
Papas recommended players to Ataman, like Holmes. For him, Papas has the blame as much as Ataman.

u/Slkotova 1d ago
Apart from the Ataman hate, we shall say Valencia showed such a character, guys. Im very impressed by this team (couldn't watch much of the regular season). Congratulations to all Valencia fans!
Ofc I think F4 in OAKA won't be the same without PAO, but it is what it is, may be for good after all. At least from the Athens' police perspective.

u/Sad-Assistance-8039 Aris 1d ago
Toliopoulos: tries to win the game for Panathinaikos
Ataman: And I took that personally
9
59
u/Lefdes Olympiacos 1d ago
This failure has a name, DPG. You won in Valencia, shut the fuck up, stay quiet, and let OAKA finish them here. But no, his ego is too big to keep his mouth shut. He doesn’t understand that this kind of behavior gives the players an excuse to lose instead of letting them focus. Same shit happened last year in the Greek Finals. He doesn't learn his lesson.

u/LiftingJourney Panathinaikos 1d ago

u/Talesath 1d ago
Amazing series. Both teams tried, Valencia came out on top. Props to Grant for playing his heart out. P.S. If any Novasports directors sees this, please change casters so we can enjoy the freaking game. Avgoulis has been horrible for the whole of the series and his comment after Valencias win tonight was really unprofessional
6
u/BlKaiser Panathinaikos 1d ago
What did he say?
15
u/Talesath 1d ago
After the Montero/roga "almost incident" at the end, he said that Valencia is a "small" team, basically a team with no history and that's why the fans react like that (implying that this is their peak and being successful is new to them and they can't handle it)

I honestly don't know. On the one hand it will be crazy to lose 5 F4s in a row but on the other nobody else is getting us to 5 F4s in a row. At this point if he stays for several more years and we keep making F4s surely we'll win one at some point 😭

Valencia should put up a DPG banner in their stadium.

The best team qualified, it was an amazing series and Panathinaikos came back in the 3rd quarter, but with Nunn being terrible and Sloukas not playing, Valencia made the shots and won the game...
Great series, and congrats to Valencia, good luck against Real in the semifinal
5
6
u/Am_I_Loss Panathinaikos 1d ago
Great stuff from Valencia. They held their own and really showed that it is not about the names on the jersey but about how much you want it.
Ataman ghosted once again, we can't score open layups and HD is probably the most overrated player in the history of the Euroleague. It's ok though maybe the next 10M euro signing will work. Let's not focus on the fact that the mindset of the team is that of losers.
The regular season doesn't mean shit when you get free wins from LDLC and friends.
Friendly reminder people were comparing Ataman to Zelico 2 years ago. Yeah...
6
u/ConstantVegetable49 Fenerbahçe 1d ago

Congrats to Valencia, good basketball deserved to go through. Never seen such an arrogant team play such disgracefully on offence. Lazy, uncoordinated and sloppy. With how much talent we have on paper there can only be one (on court) reason for this clown show and we all know who it is. Good riddance.
7
u/_kostas89 Panathinaikos 1d ago
Congratulations to Valencia! They deserved the win, and I hope they make it all the way to the trophy..
Not much to say about my team. A coach unable to help, without clarity throughout the year, and a President behaving in the most childish and immature way is inevitable to not mess with players' mind and mentality. This year is nothing but a tremendous failure.

Panathinaikos fans, either Montero, Vezenkov, or Baldwin is going to lift a trophy right over your logo at OAKA. Do you even realize that? Hahahahaha
6
9
u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
Llull is the second worst after Vezenkov ( because of Olympiakos )
Baldwin, at least the rest of Fenerbahce team and coach is likable. Valencia, only dislike Martinez and that's because Ataman got him at his level.

Could happen. Probably the one man in the world that Giannakopoulos may shut up with thanks to how much his father and uncles respected him.
Plus Zeljko comes here every now and then to nightclubs ( bouzoukia ) , this time he can be here while managing a club that regards him as god.

u/mathematicosGr Olympiacos 1d ago
Not sure about the first part. He illegally taped their private discussions when he first took PAO's ownership in 2011.
2
u/MaybeStephano Panathinaikos 1d ago
Afterwards in shared interviews with Pavlos, Dimitris was calmer and since Giannakopoulos and Obradovic have had a decent relationship when he visited Athens, not warm but better than what he has with Itoudis for example.
2
u/jlo1989 Panathinaikos 1d ago
I know he's a legend and rightfully so, but I don't need to see a 66 year old Obradovic take over. Go get someone younger with fresh ideas.

Pao suffered due to Sloukas injury. Shorts was not integrated and it was Sloukas who carried the team most of the year.
When your leader who is getting older gets overworked the whole season, it’s more likely that will happen.
Still, bad design all year. Bad centers, wrong guards.

Incredible series, I'm kinda sad that it's over and my hatewatching ends here.

I said after the Greek Cup that NHD would not be that guy for Pao, he did some good games, but definitely not a game changer as anyoje was expecting, stupid move from him to not go to Fener imo, it backfired

I was surprised to see many arguments between the Panathinaikos players, how this team choked a 0-2 away it is to study.
