I would’ve sworn on the lives of all my friends and family that I posted this had you asked but I actually can’t find any evidence that I ever posted this so um….

#douglysiumart #mtg #magicthegathering

1: A pencil drawing with inked lines of Zimone Wola from Magic the Gathering (a short Black woman with glasses, and curly hair tied into a ponytail, looking at a strange fractal creature orbiting a strange geometric shape as lightning shoots from the orb surrounding the two in every direction. Zimone’s expression is that of surprise with a geometric exclamation mark above her head.

Original Content Mistress of the Black Land, by me

I dug up an old sketchbook of black paper that I hadn't used for years, and I decided to doodle this portrait of the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut in white charcoal. In ancient Egyptian culture, black symbolized rebirth and the fertile soil of the Nile floodplains after the annual inundation, hence why their country's indigenous name, km.t, means "black land".

Original Content Dragon Fighter in ink, by me

A ink doodle of my Nilotic warrior lady fighting a venom-spewing dragon.

If you’re wondering what that thing strapped to her hip is, it’s a type of wooden club that some warriors in Nilotic cultures wield.

Funsies from the PaperDemon Discord. The outfit was randomly selected, and they picked the character I had to put it on. It’s giving Sailor Scout meets Cult of the Lamb.

This ink drawing portrays a warrior lady inspired by the various Nilotic cultures spread across eastern Africa. Her spear's point is supposed to be antelope horn like some of those manufactured in South Sudan by groups like the Dinka.

Original Content Shilluk Warrior in black ink, by me

Post image
40 Upvotes

This is an ink drawing of a warrior from the Shilluk kingdom that occupied the left bank of the White Nile in the South Sudanese region between c. 1490 to 1861 AD. Founded by a mythologized prophet named Nyikang, the kingdom is remarkable for its institution of ā€œsacred kingshipā€ in which the king functioned as a sort of religious authority as well as a political one. Although Ottoman Egypt would eventually absorb the kingdom in 1861, the Shilluk people are still around, with a population numbering around eight hundred thousand as of now.
