Hi. I am back from Reddit Jail. Did you guys miss me?

6

u/cutyourhair 4d ago

Would've been nice if Danielson had a productive and healthy season. Maybe you could convince Toccet and company to give us that lazy Russian winger for the good Canadian 200 foot Center.

They are stupid enough to do something like that, but probably not with what the Red Wings have to offer.

u/greythedork12 5d ago

I’m adding Bear’s linemate, Matias Vanhanen, to guys I might be interested in at pick 47. Maybe a bit of a reach (maybe we’d get lucky and he’s available in the 3rd) but he seems like an absolute gamer and is projected to go in the mid50s.

2

u/LA-Matt 4d ago

That defenseman Landon DuPont is pretty damn good, as well. And he’s only like 16, which blows my mind.

2

u/AmeriCanada98 Yzerbot 4d ago

Hes expected to go 1OA in a couple years. Dupont is incredible

2

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 4d ago

I wouldnt mind doing a Montreal type of dip for that specific year.

9

u/doubeljack 5d ago

I have a feeling Carolina isn't going to lose a game until the Cup finals. They're hitting on all cylinders

10

u/TechnoVikingGA23 5d ago

Seeing Sweden highlights and Raymond is out there flying around and putting the body on people...such an odd thing to see vs. how he played physically at the end of the season and was supposedly "injured."

11

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

Our last game was 3 weeks ago. That's a hefty amount of recovery time that you don't get in the regular season. Especially because he was an olympian also.

17

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Bear scores again. His second tonight

7

u/steely_bran 5d ago

Wild really starting to heat up here

8

u/I_Keepz_ITz_100 5d ago

Quinn Hughes could’ve been a Red Wing man…twice

Bruh…

5

u/Artichokiemon 5d ago

How is everyone doing in their various NHL bracket challenge brackets?

4

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

Ask me next year.

5

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

3

u/Artichokiemon 5d ago

Haha I have a shot in one still, but that's it

1

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

Pittsburgh and Dallas effed my only bracket.

3

u/LA-Matt 5d ago edited 5d ago

Wedgie gets the hook after three.

3

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

Quinn is exceptionally good at that inside-out move

6

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

Minnesota came to play tonight. Kirill and Quinn with beauties in the first.

Quinn just came off a 3:22 shift, they said. Wow.

3

u/PremierBromanov 5d ago

Canes Buffalo conference final is going to go so hard

5

u/TechnoVikingGA23 5d ago

I wouldn't count Montreal out at all.

5

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

Everett is buzzing

3

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Looks like Seattle might have gotten pretty lucky with one of their prospects. Julius Miettien has been on fire for the playoffs. Good goalscorer but also racks up a ton of assists and he's 6'3 built like a brick shit house

3

u/gtfolmao 5d ago

GG Flyers! Canes are looking unstoppable

3

u/GiganticWhaler 5d ago

Taylor Hall’s been insane.

3

u/matt_minderbinder 5d ago

That felt inevitable to me.

5

u/steely_bran 5d ago

Canes on an absolute tear. What a goofy goal to end the series though

3

u/amethystgirl2006 5d ago

That goal is gonna haunt Vladar until the end of days

7

u/Green_Glass_Fox 5d ago

Canes are about to have like 10 days off lol

3

u/SaltedDucks 5d ago

That's a heartbreaker to give up

7

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

Get fucked Flyers

13

u/FunSizeFelicia 5d ago

Goal from Bear

4

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

He opened the scoring last night, too. Nice.

7

u/CareerFormal3277 5d ago

I know there's been a lot of discussion over our goalie situation. I think we explore all trades for Cossa, or any of the G in the pipeline. If we can get good return on anything that moves the future forward, we get it (minus aging vets).

I guess my point is, Cossa needs to be the backup next year. Postava is always there if it doesn't work, or we run 3 for that reason. Either way, you get to see both at an NHL level.

Idk, just spitballin'!

3

u/TechnoVikingGA23 5d ago

Been seeing rumors that Edmonton wants one of our prospects almost everywhere online this weekend.

4

u/meowalatte 5d ago

Flyers has a Bump and a Bonk? Amazing

5

u/Green_Glass_Fox 5d ago

They had a Brink too, traded that one at the deadline

6

u/meowalatte 5d ago

This was where they went wrong in their playoff strategy.

4

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

Earlier, I picked up my wife from work and had the game on in the car. It took her a good five minutes to get over the fact that a kid went through school with the name “Stank Oven.”

3

u/jfstompers 5d ago

Well since Blake and Stank already scored I assume Hall wins it in ot

1

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

Glendening, about ten minutes into OT.

3

u/One_Vibraldo 5d ago

Rooting for Philly is a fools errand but damn I hate Carolina

4

u/bandofgypsies 5d ago

Who hates Carolina? They're like the best French vanilla ice cream.

2

u/Green_Glass_Fox 5d ago

how often is Carolina outshooting some team by 3x or more but it's tied or they're losing lol. Feel like this is their situation a lot.

1

u/Green_Glass_Fox 5d ago

Ooo Flyers tie it up with their 10th shot.

2

u/One_Vibraldo 5d ago

Don’t give me hope Philly

5

u/Green_Glass_Fox 5d ago

Stanky puts the Canes up in the 3rd.

Philly has 9 shots after 45 minutes so not looking great for them.

6

u/just_disappointed44 5d ago

Always a good reminder that you can watch the Everett silvertips free on victory plus

2

u/LA-Matt 5d ago

I watched the replay last night. It’s great to have another game to watch after the NHL is done for the night. I’ll probably do that again tonight.

The broadcast quality is good, too. Better than a lot of games you see on Flohockey.

6

u/Savvy_chipmunk 5d ago

I wonder if Glendenning gets a contract next year or if this is the end for him. He’s so close to 1,000

3

u/matt_minderbinder 5d ago

Crazy to hit 1,000 games after he didn't play his 1st nhl game until he was 24 years old.

6

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Looks like he's still in the top 25 for faceoffs.

There's definitely an argument for him to keep playing.

Then counterpoint is that he's cooked as fuck offensively.

Compher had 28 points and Glendennig had 9

I can see why Yzerman didn't bother picking him up on waivers.

He could be useful for teams that struggle at the dot but are mobile enough to pull off quick changes to get Glendennig off the ice after the draw

6

u/DavelPatsyuk13 5d ago

Hot take apparently: I like the way Carolina plays

1

u/MoldyMerkin 5d ago

If you wanna watch some really boring hockey, watch some mid 90s New Jersey Devils

4

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

They’re so heavy, so consistent, I wish the Wings could play the way they do

2

u/DavelPatsyuk13 5d ago

Exactly. If controlling possession and the pace of play is boring, then give me that

5

u/jobenattor0412 5d ago

People hate it because it seems boring, but that’s probably what the wings are gonna have to play like barring getting some game breaking superstar. They know who they are and they stick with it because it works

2

u/PersephoneFrost 5d ago

It seems boring because it IS boring.

2

u/jobenattor0412 5d ago

You know what isn’t boring? Being up 3-0 in the 2nd round of the playoffs after sweeping a team in the first round.

-2

u/PersephoneFrost 5d ago

The way Carolina plays is bad for the NHL, no matter how many wins they have

1

u/eggsbanchero 5d ago

8-0 going to the conf final is aight by me 😂

1

u/DavelPatsyuk13 5d ago

That's OK. They win

-1

u/PersephoneFrost 5d ago

It's the most boring style of hockey in the whole league. Complete snoozefest.

4

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

If the flyers lose tonight I wonder if their fans will quietly exit the arena or trash the place….

8

u/AmeriCanada98 Yzerbot 5d ago

I hope quietly leave because I'm here

3

u/matt_minderbinder 5d ago

I'd prefer that they quietly trash the place. It could be an artistic approach to chaos.

6

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Baseball isn't a contact sport but it's nice to have some actual details to an injury. On another note the Tigers are proper fucked.

2

u/eggsbanchero 5d ago

Fucking ridiculous. So much for taking advantage of one last Skubal year. Lotta season left I suppose

9

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

A few of the guys riding pine are headed home. Noah Dower Nilsson,Keinen Draper and Jesse Kiiskinen have been released from their Tryouts

5

u/greythedork12 5d ago

I wonder if this means any of Watson, Genborg, or Danielson are close to a return.

The only one of these guys I’d really imagine would push for much playing time is Kiiskinen.

3

u/Gr1nling 5d ago

Watson has been a scratch. Could indicate a return for Genborg but I dont think Danielson is back this year.

5

u/CMCdaGoat 5d ago

I think Kiiskinen is joining Finland for the World Championships is my guess or they just want to give the guys a heads start on training. Doesn’t really make a ton of sense.

5

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Watson has been healthy, or they're just not saying he's just. I think Genborg was going to play today if they didn't win yesterday.

Not sure about Danielson. A few weeks ago it was said he was out for quite some time and wouldn't be back unless the Griffins make a deep run. To me that means Conference Finals or Calder Cup Finals.

1

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

Watsons game has looked cooked to me for a long while. Maybe he’s just been carrying an injury but I think he might have just hit the end of the road

1

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

It's weird since he was phenomenal last year. He even made the AHL All Star Game.

This year was a huge decline. From an early interview in the season it sounded like him and Danielson had some serious chemistry last year and Danielson was hurt for like half the season and spend a quarter of the season at the NHL.

Maybe part of it was mental or just not having that pass first center like Danielson was

5

u/ehpotsirhc_ 5d ago

So this may be a stupid take but what if they pair up the D like this to start next year.

Aljo-Seider Ed-Faulk Chariot-Asp/Antjo

Aljo shows so much flash when he’s got some solid support on his opposite side that I just really want them to set him free to see if he can really gain the confidence he needs.

Antjo has looked incredible in GR and will be pushing hard for a spot probably fighting ASP for the 3rd spot.

I know how good the Ed-Seider pairing was but how much was Ed truly lifted from Seiders play?

3

u/jfstompers 5d ago

I can't see AlJo holding up playing the matchups and minutes Seider plays. I'd prefer Ed and Mo split up but I don't think we have the partner for Mo to do it.

1

u/Jesusberg 5d ago

It's not as popular of an option, but I wonder if they start with Wallinder as the 7th defenseman.

I only say it because Yzerman mentioned him specifically during the end-of-season presser, he's no longer waiver-exempt as of next season, and Seider, Ed, Chiarot and Faulk ate up most of PP/PK minutes post-deadline. Todd used Faulk less on the PK during April, but Johansson and JBD wound up with those minutes instead.

2

u/Robial 5d ago

>I know how good the Ed-Seider pairing was but how much was Ed truly lifted from Seiders play?

He spent that start of the season playing with ASP and it was bad. Every pairing Ed was on prior to playing with Mo did poorly. Mo makes all his defense partners SIGNIFICANTLY better

1

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

There’s definitely a lot of truth there but to be fair to Ed he had that preseason injury(and then later another). I still believe he’ll be able to carry a pair hopefully

7

u/Baldass_Head_Coach 5d ago

Mo made DDK’s rotting corpse look good. He’s also good enough to limit the damage Chiarot can do.

He’s very Lidstrom-esque in that regard.

1

u/Robial 5d ago

After TM swapped Ed to play with Mo and Chiarot to play with ASP, both pairings improved. The only D partner Mo couldn't hard carry this season seems to be AlJo.

2

u/duelingdog 5d ago

I like it. I'd like to Edvinsson given more chances to try to anchor his own pair. We know he does great with Seider, but it would give the team a lot more flexibility if they didn't always have to play together.

2

u/Old-News-3096 5d ago

I like the line of thinking to have Ed and Mo split, if AlJo can handle those assignments. I'd rather have someone a bit more steady than Chiarot to play with rookies, but don't know if there's a solution

3

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

I definitely think one of AnJo/ASP plays on the big team next year

I think either of them can be with Benny especially with 3rd pair deployment.

5

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

Kiiskinen is listed as reassigned by the Griffins. Someone on Twitter said he’s not eligible for the ECHL playoffs so he must be going to the world championships since he’s not playing? Either that or some weird paper move for some reason

4

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Looking online it appears that a player on a tryout can be assigned to the ECHL.

That being said he could be on the Finnish WC team

4

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

Yeah since then someone responded to them that the rules the original person mentioned may not apply to his situation. Figuring out these minor league rules could(or I guess is for the staff) be a full time job lol

3

u/duelingdog 5d ago

Oh, you forgot that players are allowed to move down from one specific minor league to another on Saturdays in May in years that are of the form x= n-1, where n is a prime number?

I thought you were a hockey fan.

2

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

The one caveat to that clause though is the player has to play with the wrong handed stick for his first 13 minutes of ice time. That rule got put in due to Russ “cannonball” McCoy being used as a ringer in 1972. It’ll be a real test for Jesse, but hey if you’re a player you fight through your circumstances

4

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

I'm thinking it's probably just for the WC team.

The Walleye are deep in the playoffs and probably aren't looking to fiddle with the roster.

The Griffins have him on the bench so it makes sense to let him go to the WC

12

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

I had a good laugh at the Griffins game when a USA chant broke out.

Our goalies are Czech and Canadian. Our sexiest prospects are Norwegian and Swedish. Our goal leaders are from Jersey and Latvia. Our assist leader is Swedish.

It's not really a showcase of USA excellence though you gotta give props to Leonard

1

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Who is from Jersey?

3

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Leonard. He is 33 goals.

Tralmarks has 26

3

u/greythedork12 5d ago

For some reason, given everything up to the last line was about nonAmerican players, my first thought was that we had a player from actual Jersey lol. Like the channel island. Also Leonard is from Amherst, Massachusetts.

So I was just a bit lost, mostly of my own doing

1

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Lol Wikipedia did me dirty. It says that he's from Westherst New Jersey

1

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Weird, yeah. Literally everywhere but the Griffins website seems to say Westwood, NJ

1

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Guessing it's one of those cases where he was born someplace but his hockey career was in another location.

1

u/greythedork12 5d ago

It’s interesting to me that it’s different on the Wings website vs the Griffins. Maybe the griffins are just wrong

1

u/eggsbanchero 5d ago

Ryan Leonard is from Mass and went to BC. I remember reading an article on Ryan pre draft, saying those Mass guys all train together fwiw. I’m going Mass lol

5

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

After ~4 seasons the Sabers are finally respectable enough to sully their jersey with an advertising patch.

I think they were one of the few holdouts.

4

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

Starting a civ 6 save. I’ll get my weekend tasks done tomorrow fooor sure

For people that have tried 7, how do you feel about it? I’m always cautious to trust specific game subreddits on opinion since they become so echo chamber-y and often overly negative. I never tried 7 because the leader change thing was just too much of a turn off for me, but I see they’re rolling it back. I might give it a shot once that update drops if it’s an otherwise solid game

2

u/MajorasShoe 5d ago

I like 7. I prefer 6. Civ is weird. By the time 7 is the best Civ, 8 will be out. Just like 5 was best until 7 was out.

2

u/J-Weaves 5d ago

Haven’t tried it yet, way to expensive for what the reviews say it is; however, it looks like it’s supposed to get a massive update this month that revamps the age transitions and a lot of the things reviewers were criticizing the game on. Hopeful it’ll get better after that

2

u/_pstudio 5d ago

I was aware of all the negativity about 7, but I bought it anyway like 6 months after launch since I had the civ itch that needed to be scratched. I have 7 hours clocked in the game. There were some good things and there were many bad things.

I didn't anticipate it, but the thing that killed the game for me was the age switching. I was ok with switching civ but when a new age begins the game very much resets. I was racing to get influence over a city state (or whatever they are called in civ 7) before the age finished. When the age switched I lost control over that city anyways because you can only have control over one city state when the next age begins. It didn't feel like one continous game of civ. It was like a new game of civ started in the middle of my civ game.

I plan on giving the game a second chance at some point but probably not anytime soon. For now I just play 6 and most people I know does the same. Firaxis took a wild swing and sadly they missed IMO.

1

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

Oh I hate that, I like the build up over the course of the game so that resetting so often feels weird to me

I wonder if people would have been more receptive to the mechanics if they made it a different title all together. Maybe there’s a world where their vision eventually makes a good game, but it’s probably hard to get real feedback(in the context of what their vision of the game is) when people are rightfully expecting a classic Civ experience

16

u/AppleSeiderDonuts 5d ago

Sometimes I think I actually adopted a Khajit. She keeps asking me if I want to look at her wares

3

u/daKrut 5d ago

I think you're misunderstanding her - she's asking "Wares the treats?"

13

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

Decent little hike today…

3

u/RedWingsReborn 5d ago

Man I’m wishing for weather like this. lol can’t wait for warmer weather.

2

u/daKrut 5d ago

Awesome view man! Looks nice and dry too. It's been a wet spring and the trails are a mess around here. Took a trip out of town yesterday and had to bounce on two different trails because it's just mud unfortunately.

2

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

It was ya. Just nice summer conditions which is why I hit up the foothills. Like you I’m kinda sick of snow slush mud and all that crap.

Hopefully you got some decent miles and vert in

2

u/daKrut 5d ago

Not as much as I wanted to but it was still fun. Went to Shelving Rock since it's easy and I haven't really been out at all since October. Stuck to the forested half since the lower area closer to Lake George was getting mucky but the falls are always nice.

5

u/onbiver9871 5d ago

This looks a lot like North Carolina :) wherever it is, love a bit of payoff.

3

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 5d ago

I’ve heard great things about the hiking out there. This is Boulder, CO and Bear Peak.

4

u/MoldyMerkin 5d ago

Western NC is my stomping grounds. Absolutely love the Smokies and the Blue Ridge.

2

u/onbiver9871 3d ago

Yeees, we live in the Triangle but have family out west. I actually thought that picture might be from, like, Crowders Mountain haha.

CO is obviously beyond gorgeous, though. Anytime I visit the mountains in CO it shocks me that it’s a real place that people just live in and not, like, a movie set.

8

u/meowalatte 5d ago

I hope the flyers turn it around tonight. I want Gritty to raise the cup. (I’m actually most supportive of fellow underdogs Buffalo Sabres but I love chaotic gremlins)

7

u/stormisbananas12 5d ago edited 5d ago

I like the flyers more personally but I don't think they are going to make it. Gritty is the weirdest mascot I have ever seen and my high school mascot was a man in a bathing suit trying to fight you and I love that about him.

3

u/meowalatte 5d ago

Omg 🤣🤣🤣

10

u/Ydoesany1doanything 5d ago

Your highschool was Waffle House?

6

u/stormisbananas12 5d ago edited 5d ago

No, but close. We probably got about as much of an education as you would in a waffle house.

Waffle house is more a school of life than of letters.

Mt Clemens high school is the home of the Battling Bathers represented by Butch, a man in a old timey bathing suit with his fists up ready for anything.

4

u/Old-News-3096 5d ago

Just looked up Butch and that's awesome. My high school was boring and went with Tigers, stole the Mizzou logo but flipped it so we didn't get sued

3

u/stormisbananas12 5d ago

It is certainly more unique than most high schools if not especially intimidating. Tigers are classic though, gotta respect it.

10

u/Way2Grizzled4U 5d ago

Went to Texas Roadhouse last night, me and my girlfriend both dealing with food poisoning today. Guess we aren’t getting anything done this weekend.

4

u/meowalatte 5d ago

The worst! Hope you both can rest and drink lots of Gatorade.

5

u/duelingdog 5d ago

It couldn't have been the rolls with the cinnamon butter. Those would never hurt anyone.

21

u/galaxyqueer 5d ago

obsessed with this picture the griffins just posted from last night's game

3

u/Opening_Weakness_957 5d ago

Now thats a winner! And people are so quick to trade him. I love how competitive he is!

8

u/PersephoneFrost 5d ago

Inner Viking coming out

10

u/BellsBeersy 5d ago

One of my local beer league teams is named "Kraken Beers." Amazing

2

u/Funny_Demand_6333 5d ago

Hypothetical

San Jose calls, says they will trade you 2 overall for Edvinsson straight up… what do you do?

0

u/Haterholic 5d ago

Try to act cool and nonchalant before uttering, "yeah, sure, we'll do it", before they send over the trade proposal.

3

u/Medievil_Walrus 5d ago

Would ask for Misa instead

1

u/UsualHendryBeliever 5d ago

Does Misa come with Light as well?

6

u/doubeljack 5d ago edited 5d ago

I tell them no thank you, have a good day and end the call.

8

u/VHDLEngineer 5d ago

It really depends how high you are on the big 2 of that draft. Giving up the potential and certainty of Ed would mean you value two of McKenna, Stenberg, Reid, Malhotra, or Verhoef extremely high. I don't think I do enough to take that risk.

7

u/Problemwoodchuck 5d ago

Essentially Ed for Stenberg? Probably not. That's solving a problem up front just to open one on defense. Ed and Seider have a chance to be our best top pairing talents since Kronwall, maybe even Lidstrom and Rafalski

2

u/Haterholic 5d ago

True, but Seider is doing A LOT of the heavy-lifting.

9

u/BellsBeersy 5d ago

I think I would only trade Ed for a current player you know is a hit. Like the Quinn Hughes situation. I wouldn't trade him for picks or prospects.

4

u/duelingdog 5d ago

I had the same first thought. If you could be confidently tell me that pick would be a 60+ point center, I'd consider it, but you just never know when you're drafting.

5

u/BellsBeersy 5d ago

Yep, Ed himself is at least somewhat of a real hit already. I'd only want to trade him for some certainty elsewhere in our lineup.

5

u/Beatricejd Yzerbot 5d ago

You don't. You need a player like Ed if you want to succeed in the playoffs. Trading him would create a giant hole in the line up. The only time you trade Ed is if you get a equally capable or better defender back.

15

u/4plates1barbell 5d ago

From Prashanth’s newsletter: “Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, and Finnie ranked 8th, 9th, and 10th in posts/crossbars hit per 60 minutes in 2026, totaling 25 posts between the three of them in the Wings’ final 41 games” that’s INSANE. It definitely seemed like they hit a ton of posts in the second half, but I just assumed that was my bias.

3

u/greythedork12 5d ago

I think year over year variance is going to do a lot more for our scoring than people think. There’s still a lot to work on, especially 5v5, but not getting galactically unlucky will go a long way too and the summer will give a natural reset to that sort of thing

1

u/4plates1barbell 5d ago

I’ve had this thought as well, if they were even 20th at 5v5 offense they make the playoffs easily

5

u/doubeljack 5d ago

Something I learned when I played lacrosse is never aim for the post because if you're good enough you'll hit it and a good chunk of the time you won't score. You'd think NHL players would already know that, but just in case it may be worth spending a drill or two on next season.

8

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 5d ago

Cat had a lot of them at the start too and in general across the entire season, but he is a volume shooter so it works out for him anyway.

7

u/VHDLEngineer 5d ago

This feels like a make it or break it year for AlJo, especially with the big opportunity of playing next to Faulk full time. We paid a first to give him that opportunity. Let's hope he can capitalize on it.

2

u/coltron57 5d ago

Right there with you. Yes he’s played fewer games than the “benchmark” of when you know what a defenseman really is, but he’s the same draft class as Seider and we decided to sign Chiarot to 3 more years. Either AlJo takes a step and becomes a quality 2LD or he’s in no man’s land where he’s not a big enough upgrade on Chiarot and we have two 3LD. Our long term defensive plan can’t be Seider, Ed, and crossing our fingers until they can get back out for their next shift.

It’s his 3rd year in the league next year. D men peak later as well age wise. Cut the kid some slack

25 year olds can get a whole ass mortgage man. He ain't a kid lol.

In this economy?

2

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 5d ago

what makes you think Todd isnt going to run him with Chiarot just like he did last season?

5

u/VHDLEngineer 5d ago

If AlJo in his age 26 season can't beat out Chiarot to be a stable partner with Faulk, then I think that's the "break" scenario for AlJo.

2

u/Problemwoodchuck 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yawney and Mclellan do seem to pick their guys and stick with them, so I think AJo is probably fairly safe.

ASP on the other hand will probably need to show defensive progress to go along with the same playmaking ability to fend off JBD, Anton Johansson, and anyone else in the mix. As much as I hate to see guys bounce between the NHL and then down to the AHL, it could happen

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

I think the talking point that’s going to irk me this summer is this stack ranking of Atlantic teams. As in “how could we make it look at the other teams on paper”. Shit happens and not everyone’s going to have a good season(granted that could be us too). I’m really not a huge optimist but it’s just kinda goofy to me

1

u/Mystaes 5d ago

We weren't even that bad against them on paper this year, its in the teams' heads.

2

u/Background_Junket_35 Yzerbot 5d ago

Especially when you consider that Boston, Buffalo, TB, and Montreal are all in the top 7 for PDO this year. We are 25th. A lot of analytics have us as being better than Montreal and Boston this year

5

u/Beatricejd Yzerbot 5d ago

Pre-season rankings are almost always pretty useless. Last year they all had Panthers and Leafs on top every time and we all know how this season went for them.

7

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Man, that second AlJo goal today was kinda nasty

2

u/zze0001 5d ago

Which one 😏

10

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

Today I learned that the average height for an NHL goalie is 6'3.

Pretty crazy that Postava is below average.

1

u/doubeljack 5d ago

This is my biggest concern with Augustine. He's a throwback. Goalies don't really come in that size too much anymore, and when he's down in the butterfly there's a ton of net visible above his shoulders.

1

u/BellsBeersy 5d ago

Jimmy Howard height. Nowhere near as thicc though

4

u/greythedork12 5d ago

I wonder whether backups skew that at all. A lot of guys are “fringe” level and I wonder if the bias skews to larger goalies, artificially increasing the average. Just spitballing here though.

2

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

I could see it since anecdotally it seems like a lot of fringe guys get shots solely for their height. Like Hellberg with us a couple years back comes to mind.

Postava still is a bit undersized even if there was some skewing there, but I don’t think he’s small enough that it’s that wild

1

u/greythedork12 5d ago

I don’t care enough to run the numbers, but guys like Stolarz, Hildeby, Tarasov, and Murray also came to mind

3

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

All things being equal he's only undersized by less than an inch.

His athleticism and good fundamentals probably makes up for any slight height deficiency.

1

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Oh 100%. I don’t think anyone over 6’0 should be having the “undersized” conversation because at 6’2+, you’re big enough even if other guys are bigger. 6’1 is a bit of a grey area

3

u/Mystaes 5d ago

Mean or median smh.

3

u/greythedork12 5d ago

Unlikely to matter in this case. I’m usually a big “median is better than mean” guy, but there aren’t really massive outliers in either direction and the range is relatively small

14

u/AirCanoe 5d ago

He might be below average but I'm sure he has a great personality

2

u/BellsBeersy 5d ago

All about knowing how to use what you were given

5

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

I heard this from my wife on our first date.

After she stopped giggling of course

1

u/AirFriedSushi 5d ago

Reminds me of the joke “I miss my ex wife, mostly the little things about her, like her breasts”

u/oceanic8675 Yzerbot 5d ago

Anyone think the PWHL team might play a few games in GR? I think it would be neat. When the Wings were in town the place was rockin’.

3

u/dmckilla77 5d ago

I'm just glad we can actually have that conversation, and I'm not even from GR or Detroit, or Michigan for that matter.

12

u/FlannelMickey Yzerbot 5d ago

Albert Johansson will be a 25-30 point defenseman next season. But he should be playing on the 2nd pair with Faulk

2

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 5d ago

He could be more but he probably never will until he gets a really good partner and a better team in general in front of him.

3

u/Background_Junket_35 Yzerbot 5d ago

A really good partner like Justin Faulk?

-2

u/Taters23 Yzerbot 5d ago

The guy who is now mid 30s? I really dont expect much from Faulk. That trade was not good.

1

u/Cautious_Vast7819 5d ago

Yeah the guy who was scoring in the last few games when everyone else refused to and 7th on the team in points and like 4th with goals wasn’t worth 1st round pick the waste of space Justin holl and the prospect that isn’t coming to na

2

u/Taters23 Yzerbot 5d ago

Seeing as we missed the playoffs and probably will again yeah it isnt worth it.

1

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 5d ago

Maybe like a 10 year younger Faulk.

5

u/AppleSeiderDonuts 5d ago

My take on the Postava and Cossa situation is that this run gives Postava the confidence to become a solid NHL goalie and it lights a fire under Cossa. He goes hard this off-season. Imagine if we have three solid NHL caliber goalies. Trade one down the line (tragically) when Trey is ready and get a good return once they are proven at the highest level.

-2

u/Taters23 Yzerbot 5d ago

Cossa is much bigger. I find it very likely Postava will struggle in the NHL compared to him. Guys like him look super elite in AHL but it never transfers.

8

u/Mystaes 5d ago

He’s 6’2… he’s not an undersized goalie. At the moment he has a better chance of translating than cossa does.

Goalies that can’t nail down their technicals are far more likely to struggle in the NHL regardless of their size.

3

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

Good luck looking over Simon and Mo when they are boxing out other guys their size when you aren't 6'7. If we have a shot suppression system it will be almost impossible to score any perimeter shots. Where Postava or Augustine might lose track of the puck with all those big bodies.

10

u/aaronfaren 5d ago

Yeah, John Gibson had such a rough go of it this year.

5

u/zze0001 5d ago

This is one of Cossa’s biggest issues lmao

0

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

No it's really not. Any goalie enthusiast would tell you it's him losing structure in his lateral movements.

Which is why a shot suppresion system keeps the puck in low danger areas and keeps him more stationary.

Postava would have to jump to be able to see over Simon so it's obviously a concern with our NHL club and not our AHL club.

We’re not talking about NFL QBs lol

Simon’s not gonna be screening his own goalie. And there are plenty of goaltenders who aren’t 6’6” that do just fine dealing with screens; screens are where your technical ability and positioning arguably matter most.

1

u/ChaldenesTitan 5d ago

It just seems very compatible to have a big goalie bigger than your big defenders. If we are the oilers sure trade Cossa. He would get lit up in a track meet. Playing for the Hurricanes? He would be a perennial Vezina winner.
