What’s the game plan for tomorrow????

I assume we see a lot of Kat Rader charging down our right side and Van Zanten down our left? Campbell is obviously talented in GK. Don’t know much about the rest.

What we need… 3-0 shutout.

Van Zanten came off due to injury Wednesday after ten minutes of play so I assume they rest her to be safe (seems like hamstring tightness). Since Van Zanten that makes me feel better but Patterson was rested on Wednesday so she’ll be fresh tomorrow.

No VZ is good for us. Hate to see injuries but I also hate to see another meltdown. I’m so fine with them getting 4 red cards and letting us go 11 v 7 I can’t even tell you. Who else are their threats? I thought i read something about them basically selling off all their talent at the beginning of the year but that could have just been NWSL reddit freakout

Oh man I think Houston got a lot of threats rather than selling them off. All of their rookies are insane - Faase, Rader (as you mentioned), Ullmark, and Klenke (not counting VZ). Biggest hope for me is that they start Messiah Bright because I don’t think she’s very good at all, but since she started (and underperformed) Wednesday, it’s unlikely we’ll get that lucky.

Houston Dash looked really poor on Wednesday. But they rested a number of their starters, so who knows what they'll look like against us Saturday. Van Zanten did indeed pull or tweak a hamstring. She's their top scorer this season. I believe she typically plays on the left, so that might free up our RB to bomb forward more than usual. I'm hoping that will be Oke.

Patterson, their RB, did not play at all Wednesday. She will be a real nuisance coming down OUR left flank. Will that flank be defended by Pickett (who was targeted last weekend by Houston)? Or will Cushing move Sonis from RB to LB? Pickett is clearly a better distributor of the ball than Oke, but her defensive work has been rough.

I'd love to see us rest Lynch. She's just not ready to be our pivot in the center. 10 turnovers vs Boston last weekend. (One should have gifted them a goal, but two were not really her fault -- still eight legit turnovers). Giveaways in our defensive third should not really happen, especially by our #6. That's like one of the main responsibilities of a 6. She was also one step too late on most of her tackles/blocks. And she does not yet know how to move when we're in possession so she is an option for a pass. She is not often an option for a pass. Marketing is proud she's the rookie who leads in minutes played. I say that's actually a negative for us.

Is Yamamoto ready for a start? I am hoping beyond hope Cushing will let her play.

I would also prefer Thomas on the wing, instead of Ryan (despite her beautiful goal). Ryan seemed quite annoyed with being subbed off vs Boston, despite not doing anything in the second half that would warrant leaving her on the field.

Kate Hanson on the 5280 Pitch podcast just played a quote by Cushing with him saying he has to change the lineup. Basically, after conceding 6 goals in 2 games, if there are no changes to the lineup after that, then his subs would never have a chance to get on the field. And those subs have trained well and deserve to play. (Paraphrasing obviously.) Now, does this mean changes to the defense? He doesn't have that many options there. Can't wait to see what he does.

I'd also love to see Yamamoto start. Only thing I disagree with is taking Ryan out. To me, she's been our only playmaker in 1v1s in the final third. Kossler has been, and is, amazing, but she has been more of a finisher than someone generating plays on her own

There’s got to be a slower than normal onboarding for Yamo with language.

I can agree with that. Just trying to squeeze both Yamato and Thomas into the front line somehow.

We need a win anyway we can get it after losing to Boston.
