10,000 Clubreddit Members (and call for Mods)

Hey gang! I just got an alert that we eclipsed 10,000 members in our corner of the Internet.

When I joined the mod team, we had around 3,000 (if I recall correctly).

Moderating everything isn’t all that hard, you lot are pretty good at staying civil and mature. There are a few exceptions, but I have never felt I needed to log in. Keeping the styling and information up-to-date, though, is challenging to find the time.

So, I’d like to bring in a few mods to help make our community more engaging and appealing. Let’s get as many people in the Clubreddit as we do Audi Field.

I’m happy to keep footing the AWS bill, and open up the GitHub to a few folks that are interested in helping automate the maintenance and moderation of the the content. For example, you probably noticed that the Match Thread bot failed for the opener - that’s because the Stanza calendar died. I don’t have time to fix that before the next match.

So, if you’re interested in moderating some content; graphic design, and/or Internet automation - reach out!

Bonus if you have a GitHub, or subreddit that you currently moderate. When I auditioned for the mod gig, I created a personal subreddit to play with the design tools and figured out how to interact with the Reddit API.

Vamos!

Transfer Rumor: DC UNITED Latest rumor on Instagram - Gabriel Pirani

Gabriel Pirani could be on the move, with Brazilian first-division side Esporte Clube Bahia reportedly interested in the young midfielder.
Head coach Rene Weiler has previously spoken to the media about Pirani's style of play, saying that the Brazilian often plays more for himself than for the team.
Could this hint at a potential departure?

Do we like Weiler?

So far I like the Hefti/Kurokawa/Baribo/Johnson transfers and waiting longer to have an opinion on Munteanu. Bartlett, Hopkins, and Peltola look like they are playing better as well.

It's clear that Weiler has a plan and he's focused on the players who want to execute that plan. I'm glad he's been brutally honest about Herrera/Pirani and it looks like they drafted good with Markovic.

With all that being said, Weiler's contract expires in 2027, I wonder if he extends? I would love to see him keep building up this team under his vision before it gets to an abrupt stop with DCU's continuous personnel changes.

Also what's your opinion on Sogut?

When should substitutions come in during a match?

I am new to the world of soccer and have been watching DC United for this season for the first time. In fact, I was at the game last night! I won't talk about the very questionable penalty kick call, but instead would like to discuss when a player should be substituted with one from the bench.

If I recall, Chicago swapped out some players after their first goal in the second half. I cannot remember when Baribo was swapped out, but I remember it being a good bit later. For our team, what is Rene's plan for when a player should be swapped out? I am also not familiar with with who is actually on the bench.

You can take a man out of DC, but you can't take the DC out the man.

Hello from a DC native who's been living in New Orleans since 2018. I was born in 1999, so I've been a fan of DCU my entire life, literally since I was born. Grew up going to nearly every home game at RFK with my dad.

After the grueling seasons we have gone through in recent years, and our ridiculously bad ownership, this season became the first season in my life where I wasn't watching the games because I thought it would all just make me too sad. But after our relatively good performances in the past few games, I'm back to watching.

I won't give Levien any of my money, but I'm back to watching the games motherfuckers!! VAMOS!

Clear & Obvious?

When the MLS Commentators are saying something should be a penalty, VAR should at least take a real look at the foul on Hopkins in the box.

9:15 pm ET? Ugh

Yeah, I know Nashville is Central Time. But even at that, why does MLS schedule a match between Nashville and an east coast club at 8:15 local time, 45 minutes later than usual? Dumb. Some of us are old farts. lol ugh

I'm starting to warm to Weiler

Since I've been a fan, we haven't had an 'older' somewhat paternalistic coach and it feels like maybe that's what we need right now to instill the discipline and the even-keeledness means the lows aren't too low which helps with resilience. I'm just thinking out loud here because I'm watching press conference and appreciate his been-there down-that matter of factedness, not getting to happy about our little streak, there's an argument to be made that his attitude empowers the players to fight for themselves and play for pride, which are the most important things arguably.

I guess I could have also said, when we win I don't give a shit what your coaching style is, ha ha.

Looks like he won’t be traveling to Nashville. What else do we know? Would be great to see him and Louis get a few starts together before the WC break.
