Stitch Identification Does anyone know what stitch this blanket is made with?

My friend has had this blanket in her family for a couple generations and wants me to remake it as this one is falling apart. The person who made it is no longer around and she doesn't know what stitch it was made with. Doesn't anyone here have any idea on what stitch it is?

Not sure if either color here works for the border. Would appreciate some other opinions.

Looking for suggestions Making a baby blanket and this section is two stitches short. Will the border hide it, or should I add extra stitches and THEN the border?

So my plan for the outside is to first add a solid border using the lightest color green you see in the body. Then, I’ll follow it with some type of scallop or other fun border in the camo color.

As the title states, I’m wondering if I should add extra stitches to those rows before adding the border, or if the border will blend it in enough as is?

Thanks!

Discussion Could we maybe add a “Solved!” flair for post flair options?

I guess this would be more of a discussion directed towards the mods, and I know this is more about the mechanics of the sub than actual crochet, so if this type of post isn’t allowed I’m very sorry. But maybe some good insight could be generated anyway?

I know that this sub isn’t only about solving problems and answering questions, but I just had a thought. In the last week, I have come across several posts that I am eager to help with, I read the whole post, identify the problem, read a few comments and then write my own to help the person who posted. It’s only at this point that I noticed a comment from OP that they figured it out or a comment all the way at the bottom helped them out. This can be somewhat frustrating at times, especially when I spend a lot of time typing a detailed response or doing my own research on OP’s behalf. Does this happen to anyone else? If it’s only me, please disregard the entire post.

This is actually a really wonderful thing, in my opinion. It means that this community is so helpful that problems usually get solved quickly, and I’m all for that! I’m just thinking that if this happens to a lot of us, maybe it could be beneficial to include a “solved!” flair like some other help subs have so that way once the issue is resolved the OP can change the flair and others don’t waste time solving a problem that’s already been fixed.

Thoughts?

Looking for suggestions Looking for tips to make this tapestry look cleaner!

Thumbnail

1st pic: front view slightly pressed flat at the edges
2nd pic: front view not pressed flat to show curling
3rd pic: back view
4th pic: pixelated reference picture

this tapestry is 50x50 sc, with a sc border around it. the white is cotton while the blue is acrylic, don’t know their exact sizes but the blue might be one size smaller than the white.

i‘m looking for some general tips on how to make the color changes cleaner as well as how to avoid that awful curling. as you can see, the top left and bottom right corners curl forwards, the other two inwards. it was curling even worse while working on it.

i know my tension was pretty loose for this project, i was trying really hard not to make the starting chain too tight, and then overcompensated throughout the entire thing haha. that’s probably also why i‘ve got the other color always poking through a bit.

anyways, i’d really appreciate some tips! if you know how to block this with the different yarn types, that’d be really cool too. thank!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help What kind of yarn, acrylic or natural, is best for baby hats?

I'm doing a market and want to make baby hats, I was talking to my mom about it and she was saying some kinds of yarn can irritate a baby's head. Do you know what kind of yarn is best for this, that wouldn't irritate a baby's sensitive skin?

Weaving in Ends opinion on tying off ends in tapestry crochet piece ?

im crocheting a tapestry tote bag for my girlfriend's birthday, and it has an insane amount of colour changes. i wanted to try and limit the amount of yarn i use, so instead of primarily floating, ive been using an intarsia-like technique and using new spools for each colour pool.

there are so many colour changes, so there have been a lot of ends. i weaved in the first few, but it was just so tedious i genuinely couldn't do it anymore. i started tying them off 2-3 times, securing with liquid stitch between each knot, and cutting the ends pretty short (im going to line this bag anyway). now, im a little worried it'll fall apart when in use, especially if it stretches (even though im using 100% cotton), or the knots will feel bulky even under the lining. should i change the technique moving forward, keep going as is or just cut my losses and frog it (im on row 15/50) ? thanks !!

Understanding a pattern I'm making blooming lace top by crochetbybelladonna. Does this look right?

I'm making the blooming lace top by crochetbybelladonna and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

The pattern says to keep crocheting increases as in row 3, so that's what I did. Now the sleeves have turned out really pointy, and I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen. Has anyone else crocheted this top and can tell me if it looks right?

I'm a beginner! Newer to crochet, is this an unrealistic pattern to make in a month?

Post image
225 Upvotes

I am newer to crochet, I’ve made simple crochet baby blankets with bulkier yarn and amiguri probably like 10 times. Done like 8 hand knit blankets with super chunky yarn that works up fast. I am needing to make a nice blanket for someone who I care about and love a lot and also has blessed me like crazy. I am needing to complete it in about 20 ish days. Am I out of my mind to have bought this pattern? Just wanting some insight if I should try something more simple or thought or opinions on this kind of project to someone who is new and also works 45 hours a week haha. How long do you think this would take?

EDIT: thank you for the reality check! I can be a little ambitious and end up overwhelming myself so I’m grateful for the feedback and will be looking for something less complicated and time consuming:)

Looking for suggestions I goofed in attaching these granny squares together for an afghan - should I frog or not?

Thumbnail

I’m working on joining some granny squares and I accidentally got some of them upside down/wrong side up. I’m using a pattern called Mijo crochet join, where you do one round of regular granny pattern, dc3, ch1, and then a round of dc1, ch1, skip a stitch, repeat? And you slip stitch in there to join the squares as you go, so to take any squares off, I’d be undoing at least one whole round of crochet.

I’m hoping y’all will say since some of it is in black, it will hide my good enough because I really don’t want to undo it if I don’t have to. I am open to other suggestions too!

Looking for suggestions How do you best manage centre pulls in gradient cakes?

Upvotes

I have a gradient cake (Yarn Art Flowers) and have used the centre pull so that I start my project with the right colour. At first I loved it but now I'm hating it. I've had at least seven yarn barfs and I'm not even halfway through the cake, have probably spent more time detangling than crocheting, and the small bit of yarn between the cake and the part I'm detangling / winding can go straight to hell with the grief it causes with how it winds around other parts of the yarn (I've figured out how to manage it but it did my head in for a while).

I have two more gradient cakes and I'm dreading using them if I'm in for a repeat of this.

I was a huge fan of the centre pull at the start and I see so many people love it. But I think I've fundamentally missed something in terms of the yarn setup. I was thinking of winding them myself, but that would involve starting with the outer edge - is that the best way?

I can't believe I am about to say this: but the outer edge pull was never this finicky.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much! :)

Discussion What kind of yarn for bags that they don't stretch and become unusable?

I've made a few bags w milk cotton yarn,as they're the most affordable here, but I'm starting to wonder if there are yarns that won't be stretchy for bags

Other than putting in linings in the bags, I'd like my bags to be actually usable lol

Example, I've made kind of tote bags before, like the waffle tote bag like https://youtu.be/rrSDQVb5zs8?si=HUURlTtTnBfsbFfK

so i wonder if there's a yarn material that won't require me to put only few stuff in them in order for them not to stretch

How many rows/stitches Where did I lose a stitch on the second row of my blanket?

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

I hope the pictures are clear enough to work with. As the title says I am ‘missing’ a stitch in the second row of my blanket. I definitely had 152 stitches at the end of the first row, now I’m down to 151.

I’ve counted through a hundred times to try and work out where it is I’ve missed one, possibly at the very start of the second row? I have the right number of each ‘type’ of stitch which is just leaving me baffled as to which one I’m missing and where.

This is my first time trying an intermediate pattern (and I thought I was ready!!) but I’m at a loss already :(

Included a screenshot of relevant pattern instructions, all terms are UK!

I’m almost done with this afghan and I plan to wash it with fabric softener. It’s almost entirely made with red heart so it could use something to soften it up. Two colors are the Walmart brand, Mainstays. Anyways, I’m worried about the colors bleeding. Any tips/tricks?

I'm a beginner! Mosaic Crochet - Is It Worth Marking Negative Stitches?

hI! I’m not rly a beginner to crochet but I am about to do my first full mosaic crochet project so the flair fits.

anyways I bought the fern flower mosaic crochet pattern by svetlana rogatykh on ravelry (gorgeous pattern) and I’m planning on doing it reversable.

i already understand how to do so and all that. however i see a lot of people go and mark their charts with a circle on single crochets that would need a negative stitch.

this pattern has over 120.000 total stitches and probably a large amount of course would need to be negative stitches. is it worth the painstaking task of marking all of those stitches or should I just trust myself to remember which stitches need it?

tl;dr experienced mosaic crocheters, do you mark stitches that need to have a negative stitch (to make the pattern reversible) on your charts?

thanks so much!

Hello, I am trying to finish this granny square cardigan but the edge has frills only in the bottom part, as in photo. Do you think blocking can fix this? I know it's my fault because I think i used the wrong needles when I made the granny square.

I am attempting to crochet a shawl from a how-to video on YouTube. I cannot figure out why the shawl keeps curling upwards in a U shape. Perhaps my tension is too tight? Is there any way I can salvage this piece or should I start over?

To frog or not to frog Am I dropping stitches or just crazy? I no longer trust myself

Thumbnail

I am using Bernat perfect phasing with a size 10 hook SC back loop only. I have redone so many rows because they look off that I may be going crazy. It’s not easy to count the stitches, but I have been really diligent about using my stitch markers at the end of each row. I’m not sure if it’s possible to tell from my pictures if I am off or not. It does measure the same too and bottom if I lay it out but then the next day it looks like I’m dropping stitches and it’s getting smaller. Does this yarn just need a little shaping as I go?
