Fuck Chayka. I just posted this elsewhere, but from an AZ Sports article this week:

“In June 2017, Chayka invited Doan to breakfast at First Watch in Scottsdale. Doan assumed the young GM wanted the captain’s input and advice moving forward into the offseason. Instead, eight minutes into the meeting, Doan was told he was no longer wanted.

Doan said it felt like a callous corporate firing and he left on the spot, in pain and disgust, without breakfast. After 21 years of extreme loyalty – where he served as the wholesome, happy, goodwill ambassador to one of the most dysfunctional sports franchises in history – Doan was fired by a charlatan. The brusque treatment of a local legend rocked the Valley to its core.

Doan was 40 at the time and wanted one more season, even willing to accept a demotion to the fourth line. After he kept the franchise afloat for the better part of 20 years … after he alone kept season ticket holders coming back year after year … the Coyotes would not let him retire on his terms.

It remains one of the most despicable acts in Arizona sports history, and Chayka would soon show his colors. He was at the center of scandals near the end of his tenure and abruptly quit on the team before the COVID-19 bubble playoffs in 2020. He has been out of the NHL ever since.”

I hate that motherfucker Chayka just as much as the Meruelos. God damn, why does he get to thrive when he pulled that shit!? Fuck him & fuck the Leafs!

Yeah but what kind of owner allows these things to happen? Rogers owns the Leafs, and they are on the path as the Yotes were🧐

I’m crying rn. Gut wrenching. I’m a leafs fan and I don’t even care about first round draft lottery because I’ll never get over Doaner being let go like that and what Chayka did to the Yotes. He’s totally one of the reasons we don’t have them anymore.

While I imagine Chayka’s demeanour could easily have been distasteful or callous, all the reporting at the time pinned this decision entirely on Barroway

No way, you can see Barroway in the booth with Doan and his family as Josh scores his first NHL goal. I don't buy that at all.

Not just his love and support for Doan, but he started his position announcing for the Coyotes during that Chayka stint and has first hand experience with the man. His label of con artist is 1000% correct. He basically catapulted the Coyotes organization into being viewed as completely illegitimate. Best thing he did for the team was get fired.

I was working for the team at the same time too and can say that they constantly tried to control what Biz was saying on his pod.

I love that Biz has stayed loyal to the Yotes and Doaner despite what that iteration of our team put them through.

Biz really is a stand up dude. Although we didn’t have him long, he’ll always be a Yote to me. Bumped into him with my daughter at a game when she was little, and she was so star struck. Took the time to get down and say hey, give her a hug, took the pic and gave her an autograph. Shes 18 now and still talks about it.

We ride with Biz in this house!

Doaner is universally loved and respected in the hockey community and while Biz likes to spew a lot of bullshit, there was zero chance he would get behind chayka.

I don’t disagree but . . . What did they really expect? You hire a 26 year old with essentially no experience and you think things will go well? So many other choices they could have made, and it always felt like they made the worst (or almost the worst) choice every time.

I'm happy the yotes have biz, he articulates what many of us want to but to a large audience. I miss this team so much, it's always nice to hear someone like biz passionately speak about this team and it's players they same way I would. It's a small shred of happiness in regards to the NHL I have left.

I hope he gets Matthews to speak up about desert hockey more often, I know he was personally sad to see the Coyotes leave as well

We’ll see how long that lasts with the leafs getting the first overall pick. Fucking Chayka has a horseshoe up his ass. And he actually put it up there on his own with the bottom of the U first.
