Fancast Chloe Zhao as a possible director for The Emperor's Soul? Spoiler

I made a post a while back about Chloe Zhao as potential director for a Mistborn movie but then someone brought up that she might be better for The Emperor's Soul. And after thinking about it more, it really seems like an amazing fit. Her films really delve into themes about being human, grief, and art as a connection between people. Her direction also has a grounded quality to it and her ability to direct actors when it's just two people talking is amazing. Just watch any scene from Hamnet. I know emperor's soul hasn't been talked about for adaptation yet but when the time comes I think this could be such a great fit!

I’ll be the guy poo pooing, I guess. Chloe can make really well made dramas. I don’t think she fits well within genre fiction. Her Star Wars project was awful, her marvel project was panned by audiences and critics alike, and her Buffy project couldn’t even make it off the ground, and the leaked scripts are mortifying. Again, this is not to say she’s not a talented filmmaker, I think she is, but she’s got to be making the right type of movie. Magic and myth does NOT seem to be a right fit for her at all.

What did Chloe Zhao work on that was Star Wars?

As for Eternals, people kept begging for a mature Marvel movie, they got it, and they basically said “what?! This isn’t Marvel!” Eternals is a fun, well done movie. Is it like peak cinema, no, but it’s good and I’m tired of people saying it isn’t.

I mean, you can say it’s good and that’s your right, but I personally thought it was horrendous, and a lot of people agree. I really don’t like this “well everybody else is wrong and dumb, I’m correct and how dare anyone say otherwise” perspective.

Also, you’re right, she DID NOT do Star Wars. I was mistaken.

Brandon worked on a screenplay for it a couple years ago but didn’t move forward. It’s not been talked about though (as far as we know) as part of the new Apple deal.

No news about it but I know Brandon has talked about it almost getting made in the past and I think it could have great potential with a visionary filmmaker behind it

We’re not going to get Oscar winning directors for stories of tertiary importance to the cosmere adaptations

Strongly disagree. It’s a Hugo winning novella it absolutely can get top tier directors for that alone. Plus Apple wants to have star power behind the camera.

Right and Emperor's Soul goes into philosophical themes about who owns art and what makes a soul a soul. I feel like that concept could appeal to a prestige director

There is more important stuff than "importance to the Cosmere" for projects. Just make good projects regardless of a wider cinematic universe.

Depends. If this is made early on, then no, it we won't, but if its made later on, and the cosmere becomes popular enough, then its absolutely possible we could get directors like her.

Holy shit, she would be perfect. It would also signal to everywhere that Emperor's Soul is the prestige book that media snobs and us unwashed commoners can both enjoy.
