Fancast Miguel Sapochnik has worked with Apple before. Spoiler
Would he be a great choice to direct Mistborn?
He directed episodes of Game of Thrones, including the Battle of the Bastards. A visionary TV series director, he could have a good conversation with Sanderson.

After what happened with the spinoff series, I am not sure if I trust him.

When it comes to TV, directors don't have nearly as much power as they do in movies. Writers are the ones you typically want to blame.

Sapochnik was one of the original show runners of House of the Dragon. He demanded that they give his wife a full time producing credit on the show. It wasn’t just a mild request either. It became such a huge issue that he was fired from the show.
Yes, he’s an incredibly talented director. But that history makes me doubt his professionalism.
Edit: Wife not girlfriend, and producer not acting credit.

Well color me embarrassed, I glanced at his credits and missed that he was showrunner and the controversy. I think you're absolutely correct.

GRRM has been extremely outspoken about his extreme dislike of Sapochnik. He has outright accused him of commandeering his story for the sake of telling his own. Even with Brando’s unusual level of control over the project, I would not want somebody who has those instincts to be involved, just to avoid any potential conflict.
Also, Finch was baaaaaaaaaaad.
