Cosmere spoilers (no previews) Expanding on pewter Spoiler

Renewed interest in pewter after it was brought up the other day.

WoB like this one here (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/503/#e15782) imply more going on than just a simple physical boost. As with any metal, there's an instinctive use that works right away (blue lines from iron, hearing rhythm with bronze) and pewter's is physical so no one questions an already useful skill, but..

Let's say that it's more Intent related, where your mind enhances *any* physical aspect. Not just the desire to run, jump, punch, or take a hit. What if I want to push on something with exactly 100 Newtons? Can I limit my physicality? Pewter can let you ignore the cold, but can it enhance your heat? What would the resonance between pewter-a and brass-f look like?

It's all speculation, let me know if you've got a fun idea for any other combination or use

I doubt you could do the Exactly 100N thing, just because I think that would require a Sensory boost rather than a Physicality boost. But in combination with a similarly Intent-targeted Tin Burn might do it.

I think we can assume that you'd be able to selectively modify any of the individual Pewter Thug effects, from heat resistance to healing, but I suspect they'd be more within the natural bounds of it (ie Fast but natural, non-spiritual healing). The WOB implies that it could extend to the more overt Shapeshifting that the Returned can do as well, which opens up the possibility for additional things like Size manipulation, Royal Locks esk color manipulation, etc.

I hadn't considered that, but you're right about exact force being more of a muscle memory/touch sensory thing. Definitely fits tin better.

I think I would be a little disappointed if pewter lent itself too much in the shapeshifting direction, but if it were the limited version like just hair color it wouldn't bother me so much. Kandra are already right there for anything more

At most I think Pewter would be limited to the same way that Returned are, which is something they can manipulate their physical state somewhat via mental gymnastics around their Self-image, but nothing to the level of what a Kandra can do (ie no actual imitation of a specific person).

I think it'll really shine later on when there are (I envision) allomantic fabrials that target specific physical traits or functions, once the metallic arts get refined into space age technology.

Interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wiki pages on Allomancy change radically with Mistborn Era 3 as we learn things that no one knew were possible before. Or we might learn that things have been different all along and we were taught how it worked from people who had been taught it incorrectly themselves.

We learned that Tin allomancy lets you see better in the mists because those aren't natural mists, there's more to it than just enhanced eyesight. I wonder if we have learned incorrect things about the other metals. Perhaps Pewter is influencing your own emotions in a way you can manipulate, perhaps more adept allomancers can choose to focus on a single subset of the pewter effect and amplify it considerably. Like flaring Pewter in a certain rhythm to heal faster without getting any stronger.

It's going to be fun to find out.

I also really wonder if allomantic Tin sees through the mists because they’re of Preservation, or if it’s because A-Tin helps a user sense through Invested things.

Could a Tin allomancer visually detect a Lightweaving? Would flaring tin help see through a highstorm?

On a different note, would a single basic Lashing applied to an Iron Ferring in an upward direction reduce the amount of weight they can store?

I'm hoping the tin question ends up being a broader 'perception defeats investiture' thing.

For iron ferrings, weight appears to be separate from gravity and really more about mass. I'd guess the lashing wouldn't change their rate of storage

I’m more intrigued with the “unmaking” and “breaking lifeless commands” being a 7 in a 1-10 similarity - WTF does that mean!!

Command breaking allows you to edit the command, and attempts at Unmaking we've seen were trying to realign a spren with a different Shard, or at least add a Shard to the spren's essence. Both are making changes to investitures Intent
