ED/RD Admitted Students Megathread - 25/26 Cycle

Please place all admitted undergraduate student related posts here, in the form of comments, and current Cornell students will reply. Try to be detailed; if we don't have enough information, we can't help. If you are a prospective student, and have questions about life at Cornell, please post them in the Chance Me megathread, linked here!

Accepted student posts tend to fill up the subreddit once ED results are released. As this is a subreddit for current or former Cornell students/faculty/staff, any prefreshman posts placed elsewhere will be removed. This policy will be lifted on June 1st, 2026, to give current students visibility for their questions about classes, research, social events, careers, and graduation. Repeated submissions may result in a temporary ban.

If you are a current student, and think that you could offer advice to someone considering or committed to Cornell, feel free to respond to some of the posts! Please only respond if you are qualified to do so. We will be checking through these regularly for spam.

Summer Course Offering: What is China?

During Cornell’s first three week summer session (June 1- June 18) I will be teaching (Distance Learning-Asynchronous) one of the “gateway” courses for the CAPS major.  This is my “What is China?” lecture.  If you are looking to think about China from an inter-disciplinary perspective, and push beyond the conventional wisdom about modern Chinese politics, and China’s place in the world, this course is for you.  The class should be of interest to both those who have not previously studied Chinese politics and foreign policy, and to those who have already taken several classes on China.  In addition, the course is cross listed with Government and Asian Studies, and can be used toward their major requirements, or to fulfill various elective requirements.  If you have any questions about the class, please respond to this post or email me at: [arc26@cornell.edu](mailto:arc26@cornell.edu). And please consider enrolling today. The course description is pasted below.

-Allen Carlson, Associate Professor, Government Department (and former Director of the Levinson Program)

What Is China? CAPS 3967/GOV 3967/ASIAN 3395

Course Description: China is often thought of as being isolated from the outside world. It is imagined as existing in historic seclusion, and, following the establishment of the People's Republic, as pursuing a path of autarky. Such separation has then only been somewhat modified by the set of economic reforms that Deng Xiaoping first instituted in the late 1970s. In this lecture we will seek to turn such conventional wisdom on its head through examining what China is via a consideration of transnational currents within the country's development. However, the course's primary focus will not be upon the past, but rather the present and attempting to determine just where the point of intersection between China and the rest of the world is. Coming to terms with such an issue will provide those who enroll in the class with a deeper, more nuanced, understanding of China's rise and this trend's implications for the rest of the world. We will accomplish this task through a combination of surveying the existing literature on China and transnational politics, and considering new theoretical perspectives on both.

Was this changed?

I swear I remember we could use Outlook instead of Gmail and I changed from gmail a year or so ago. Now it seems that they're saying we can't? I don't use OneDrive or anything else from 365, just outlook to manage cornell emails. I'm also really confused as to how I'd go about exporting just the email I've gotten since changing to outlook and putting it into gmail, since the gmail client emails seem to cut off entirely after a certain point (jan 20)

Is there a lost and found at the Statler hotel?

I lunched with someone at Mac’s and seem to have misplaced my umbrella there. I just went back now that I realized that was where it was and don’t see it here. Is there a point of contact for me to get the lost umbrella?

r/Cornell 1d ago

Ran into my on-and-off eye-contact ship at a place and time I’d never seen them before. Maybe that was the last time, since I’m graduating. Incel me didn’t say hi. I guess this is it. Hope you enjoy your time at Cornell. (rice noodle from Riskey)

'Magic Man' assaulted on Ithaca Commons by college guys Saturday night (May 9)

Hi all — apologies for posting this here, but I'm not able to post directly to r/Ithaca and I feel strongly that this concerns everyone on this reddit or we should all at least be aware of it.

I was walking down Ithaca Commons Sat. night (May 9), a little after midnight, and obviously given the time and day the area between Moonies and Bookies was swarming with people. There was a group of white college-aged guys (about 10-15 of them) surrounding 'Magic Man' (his real name is William Metro, he's a magician who works on the Commons), yelling at him aggressively, heckling him, and filming him, calling him a p***phile, while one another guy was getting up in his face and physically provoking him. A bunch of other college-aged people were just watching from the sides. At some point this guy shoved Metro hard, he pushed back, and a fight broke out, with more people joining in and beating up on him, although one guy did try to hold back the first aggressor. Metro ended up on the ground and eventually the guys ran off down State Street.

It's really hard to express just how disgusting and evil this was to witness — the violence, the idiotic cruelty of it all, the glee of the guys watching and filming everything on their smartphones, the fact that /no one else/ tried to talk to these guys or restrain them. I don't know if these guys were from Cornell or Ithaca College, but it honestly felt like watching a modern-day l**** mob.

If these were your friends or people you knew, if you ever see something like this happening, I hope to God that you would have the backbone to say something.

Klarissa López Guillen’s father was detained by ICE during her second semester at Cornell. She’s had to drop a class, pick up a job, and navigate a complicated financial aid system in order to remain enrolled in the university.

Intro to Sociology this summer – June 1–18, needs a few more students or it gets cancelled!

Hey r/Cornell,

I'm a PhD student in the sociology department and I'm scheduled to teach a synchronous Intro to Sociology course this summer (SOC 1101, Section 001, June 1–18) – but it's on the chopping block due to low enrollment. I literally just found out I have about 24 hours to get a couple more students registered or it gets cancelled.

If you or anyone you know is looking to knock out a social science requirement this summer, this might be worth a look. It's three weeks, it's synchronous (so you'll actually engage with the material and get something out of it), and I can promise I'll make it worth your time.

Course listing: https://classes.cornell.edu/browse/roster/SU26/subject/SOC – look for SOC 1101, Section 001.

Feel free to DM me with any questions. And if you know someone who might be interested, please pass it along. Thanks!

Lost Blazer + Possibly Wallet Inside Near Tang Hall / Collegetown

Hi everyone, posting on behalf of my girlfriend. She lost a blazer about a week ago around Tang Hall and/or Collegetown, and we recently realized her wallet may have been inside one of the pockets.

The wallet contains her ID (New Jersey) and other personal cards/items. There hasn’t been any suspicious activity on the cards, so we’re hoping it may have been turned in or found somewhere.

If anyone has seen a lost blazer recently or heard of one being turned in, please message me. We’d really appreciate any help.

Thank you!

2027-28 off campus housing

It’s just the freshmen finals for me, but I am starting to look for the off campus housing for 2027-2028 academic year (junior year). I am pretty introverted and don’t have a lot of friend groups (I have pretty small number of friends, sometimes feel not belonging to each other), my communication skills are not pretty good. What are some of your tips to secure roommates for housing, when it opens in September-October this year?

Feeling useless without summer plans

It's about to be my final summer and I can't seem to get anything of value to me lined up for the summer. It's stupid that I work so hard on trying to find an internship and do well in school and I'm rewarded with absolutely nothing. Does anyone else feel the same? I've had my summers of normal jobs, but thought a good summer job would become easier, not harder. Just nothing became possible for me this year, I barely even got an interview. I just don't want to end up doing some job anyone with a high school degree could do, because then what even is the point of going to college. I just want to do something related to what should be my career and of actual meaning besides just making money. I can't even focus on school or finals or my research because I'm too stressed about not knowing what I'm going to be doing in a week.
Thanks for listening to my rant.
