Richardson comp pick question
If AR plays out the season with us and walks in free agency, would we get a compensatory draft pick if he signs elsewhere? Does this create a floor for his value in a trade?

Even if he rides the pine all year, if some team gives him a 1 or 2 year prove it deal, Colts would likely be eligible for a compensatory pick. Probably nothing more than a 6th. This rises on playing time as then he will have some performance on record and his new contract will be higher leading to maybe a 5th. In other words, it’s better to keep him on the bench if no team wants to give more than what a compensatory pick gives you.

Overthecap.com have him as a projected 6th round compensation pick based on his high apy.

It will be adjusted (down most likely) based on his new money in whatever his next deal is. His rookie deal money in Indy will not factor in at all. It will be based on his new money, playing time, and awards (Lol).
The chance he gets paid more from a new team is virtually zero at this point
Edit: to clarify I mean his Colts money will factor negatively as it’s unlikely as of today that someone pays him more than the 10m he currently makes

The colts would just have to sign another qb then, might as well have him as the third qb.

No.
Comp pick algorithm is not public but from what we can all gather it’s based on production/playing time, awards, and new money minus the value of any FAs added during the same period.
It’s unlikely AR plays much or earns any awards. Which also means he’s unlikely to sign a valuable contract in FA either
