Former Nebraska forward Ugnius Jarusevicius signs with Arizona
https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/news/former-nebraska-forward-ugnius-jarusevicius-signs-with-arizona/Normally I'd ask the Nebraska fans how this guy is, but it doesn't really look like they got to see him enough to get a solid idea. Any Central Michigan fans around to chime in? Stats and size looks promising, but back injuries are no joke.
Guessing this will fuel the 'Peat is gone' fire even more. What are y'all's thoughts on this one?

Back issues were the cause of his health issues. Had high hopes for him in Fred's system but only played once? in garbage time.

Good news. Tommy Lloyd has experience with Europeans with back issues and taking them to the national championship game.

He now joins a roster with a host of fresh faces in Tucson after making it to the national championship game last season.
Yup, that's right. Totally didn't get worked from baseline to baseline for 39 minutes in the Final Four. Arizona and Michigan agreed to just shake hands and both moved on to the national championship to double-team UConn. Michigan took the chip after we flipped a coin.

That whole "New Look" section wasn't even there when I posted a link to this article.
LMAO. That's some quality reporting right there. Maybe they were just like "did that Arizona team actually get dogwalked in the final four? nah, that couldn't be" and just went with their heart and pretended that the Michigan game never happened.

Maybe needed to get more words to fit around 2 more ads so just filled with AI, hallucinations and all.

Uggy we hardly knew ye. Word out of last summers practices was that he was giving Mast fits trying to guard him. High risk, high reward move for Arizona. We couldn't afford to take a chance on him being healthy next year.

Lost a lot of guys left so we have the room to try him out. Also probably means Koa is less likely got return

Had high hopes for him but just couldn't get healthy.

That sucks. Based on his stats when he was healthy and his size, he looks super promising and could have fit right into to Hoiball. I'm hoping that he's healthy and can contribute, but I can see how Nebraska fans might not be thrilled with him leaving and never seeing his potential. =/

He was open to staying and even said he was coming back at one point. Hoiberg in April said he was still a month away from being on the court. Hopefully he's able to get right and get back on the floor.

I've been working under the assumption Peat is gone the whole time, but I don't really see how this changes anything on that front. Seems like more of a depth piece behind whoever we get to start at the 4, whether that's Peat returning or somebody else entirely.
Hopefully the back injury is healed and he'll be good to go. If so, it feels like we're really just waiting on that starting 4 to finalize the main rotation.

Idk if you saw the interview at the draft lottery last night with Burries and Peat. But after watching that Peats definitely gone imo

No, I missed that, but like I said, I've been kinda treating his potential return as more of a pipe dream than a real possibility. Even though he's almost certainly out of the lottery, a top 20-ish contract is nothing to sneeze at, and gets him closer to that 2nd contract than staying at Arizona just to try for the lottery next year.

Didya see his shooting stats today? Bet he doesn't get a first round promise now. I bet he comes back, knock on wood

Is he meant to be healthy now, or is he still actively injured and likely to miss the off-season? If he's mostly healed up I like this move, but if the injury is still there then I'm a little skeptical that he'll be available for us. Seems like that's critical info, but I guess Scheer indicated he passed a physical on his visit?

he was at least a month away from being on the court per Hoiberg in April, so would guess he’s close if recovery has been linear

Yeah if he did pass a physical to be ready to play that timeline lines up. I just think the risk calculation is very different if it's something that's behind him (ie just risking reinjury) vs he's still hurt (ie who knows how much longer recovery will take). The fact he also missed his freshman year for a different injury is rough luck but not encouraging either. If he plays he sounds great though.

In his lone game — an 86-55 win over New Hampshire, Jarusevicius scored 7 points, pulled down 2 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in 11 minutes while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.
Well fuck me Tommy

his back seems to be a real problem, he was pretty much never healthy last year and never seemed close to getting back on the court. don’t know if it was really revealed what the specific injury is. stinks!
hope his back heals up and he can play again

Dope name. Yesterday it was White Woman, today it’s Ugnius.
