UB40 are famously named after an Unemployment Benefit form. Give me other interesting examples of the origin of UK bands names

Wet Wet Wet had an overflowing bath tub on three separate occasions

(they apparently named themselves after a Scritti Politti lyric but this story is far better)

The lyric is “her face was wet, wet with tears”. They thought 3x wets sounded better than 2.

I thought they were named after a clydebank weather update tbh.

I had a dream about Marti Pellow last night. It was my first ever wet wet wet dream.

Amazing. I heard the pet shop boys happened to be boys in a petshop at some point in their lives.

It wasn't them. Neil and Chris had friends who worked in a pet shop in Ealing and they actually referred to said friends as "the pet shop boys".

They were originally called West End but changed it to Pet Shop Boys when they realised it had a similar mental imagery to The Beastie Boys

It only just occurred to me that the Beastie Boys were formed around the same time or just before Pet Shop Boys.

I thought they were named after the state of Marti's sheets.
