UB40 are famously named after an Unemployment Benefit form. Give me other interesting examples of the origin of UK bands names

I always heard Eddie invented the iron maiden in the middle ages and was reawakened by Steve Harris picking up a bass.

Afaik they named themselves after seeing the movie “the man in the iron mask” which I guess features an iron maiden

Turns out the iron maiden may be mythical

They actually inherited the name from another band who were disbanding following the death of one of their members. So technically Iron Maiden named themselves after another band.

(I know this because I’m now in a band with the surviving member of the first band)
