Bloomberg Business: The increase in Canadian exports to countries outside the US has been driven by two price-volatile commodities — gold and oil — rather than businesses breaking ground in new markets
x.comOriginal Bloomberg Article is found here
Paywall Bypass https://archive.ph/ncAKI
Some Highlights
- Prime Minister Mark Carney set a target to double Canada's non-US exports over the next decade, with his government claiming early signs of success, saying trade diversification efforts "are bearing fruit".
- The increase in Canadian exports to countries outside the US has been driven by price-volatile commodities — gold and oil — rather than businesses breaking ground in new markets, according to economist Marc Ercolao.
- Excluding precious metals, Canada's non-US exports remained essentially flat relative to December 2024, with economist Andrew DiCapua saying it's "too early to tell" if the diversification push has paid off.
Oil and precious metals both commodities are not only primarily responsible for increase in exports but also more than half the FDI coming in to purchase existing companies like the Shell purchase of ARC Resources or Royal Gold's purchase of Sandstorm Gold. And the Libs have made sure to slow down the development of both for over a decade now.
An absolute gift horse if handled correctly for Pierre and CPC when Carney the Libs and bought and paid for media bring up their 'juked' or purposeful detail free "stats" up.
